Imperial Space
Description
Though the Emperor is dead, the Empire never truly collapsed. Imperial Space is the area of space in the Galaxy still under the control of the Empire. It can no longer call itself the Galactic Empire, but the Imperial hold outs are far from weak, and are no longer divided thanks to their unification under the Warlord Varks, who now rules his new Empire from Bastion, stubbornly clinging to the ways of the old Empire. The Empire provides order for the worlds underneath it, many of whom have stayed with the remnants due to a genuine loyalty to the New Order and the Empire that trumpeted it. Imperial justice is as swift and harsh as ever, and crime within Imperial space is relatively low.
Few smugglers wish to risk automatic execution or twenty years of slave labor on an Imperial space station to deliver spice afterall.
The Empire means peace and order for many of these people, whereas the New Republic is a chaotic beast filled with xenos that seek to undermine humanity.

NonHuMan Act
The NonHuMan Act, or policy, is what effectively prevents all but the rarest of non-human or female individuals to soar high in the Imperial military (and as a result, Imperial society). Imperial space is particularly bigoted towards aliens, and mob violence against aliens on worlds like Bastion are surprisingly common for the normally peaceful and orderly society.
The bigotry reached its height during the Pre-Endor Imperial Navy, but with the participation of so many Aliens in the Rebel Alliance, the Imperial Remnant have an even more vehement view towards aliens serving in the military in any official capacity, although the restriction on women has been loosened by Varks as a product of the times.
Nevertheless, aliens should steer clear of Imperial Space unless they are prepared for trouble.
Though not technically a part of the NonHuMan Act, force users are persecuted in an even harsher manner by the Empire.

Galactic Standing
(New Republic)
The Imperial Remnant is in a state of a 'phony war' with the New Republic. While both sides are openly hostile to the other, and skirmishes occur on a nearly daily basis, neither side have executed grand campaigns like the Civil War against the other. The Imperial Remnants and New Republic had even been in negotiations for a peace settlement, when Varks sent the Imperial fleet to Yavin, investigating reports of a disturbance in the area.
The Republic took it as an invasion, and a fierce fight broke out that saw the Imperial Remnants Third Fleet sent reeling back from Yavin and all the way back to Bastion. Since then, peace talks have broken down.
(Redeemers)
The Imperial Remnant and Redeemers have collaborated on a 'enemy of my enemy' basis in the past to fight Jedi that they see as hazardous to eachother. Beyond these alliances of conveniences, the official state of the Redeemers and Imperial Remnant is one of war.
(Hutts)
The Empire has long been forced to tolerate the enroachment of the Hutts on good, Imperial space. But they have never been able to act, even now, the New Republic has their attention focused on the Core, and courting the Hutts for increased cooperation.
(Sith Kingdom)
Varks knew.
He had known the minute they captured one of Palpatines Dark Prophets, and the man began raving of a secret Kingdom, one of Darkside users that threatened the galaxy itself.
Varks sent his fleet out to warn the New Republic, but the warning never reached them, and his fleet was sent reeling away from their intended destination, to combat the Sith before they could make their resurgence. Though the Imperial Remnants have no official standing on the Sith Kingdom, it is safe to assume the two will be drawn towards conflict inevitably.

History
(This History will only cover the Empire post Endor history wise)
After the battle of Endor, the Galactic Empire was left reeling without a leader to command them. The Emperor's death opened up a power vacuum, leading the powerful Imperial navy to fracture as Admirals and Sector Moffs declared themselves the new rulers of the Galaxy. Though conflict emerged between the groups, it was left relatively limited due to the threat of the Rebel Alliance. Coordination between the different Imperial groups was sub-par, at best, and the Empire was crushed time and time again during conflict.
The Ackbar Campaign was a wake up call. With the proclamation of a New Republic, and that the Old Order had returned, many of the Warlords found themselves under pressure to join together, or die alone. A Moff's council was formed, a provisional government to lead the remaining Imperial Sectors as one united force. The effort was driven up by a younger Admiral, by the name of Jeris Varks. Varks' personality and natural charisma, as well as his stellar reputation allowed him to claim a prominent seat on the Moffs council, becoming primarily responsible for the leading of the united Remnant forces in their war against the New Republic.
It could not last forever, however.
The squabbling of the Moff's did not cease with the Council, and more and more of them threatened to break off and return to their warlordism as it was pre-Moffs Council. More and more Imperial officers and personnel defected to the New Republic.
Varks watched this all with the stern eye of a disapproving parent, covertly taking measures against these defectors without the Moffs approval. When it came to light that the Admiral Varks was taking such actions without consulting the Council, the Moffs became infuriated. They recalled Varks back to Bastion, where they planned to make an example of the man and remove a thorn from the side of their personal ambitions. Varks came to Bastion, and came before the Moffs council. Before any could speak, Varks began a speech that was being transmitted with a secret communicator to one of Bastion's broadcasting channels.
Every person living in Imperial space saw what happened next.
Varks made a call for Imperial unity, stressing the good the Empire had done when it put its trust in a single, strong, ruler. He called upon the Military to not succumb to the warlordism that had driven cracks into the very moral foundation of their beloved Empire, and then, he said his most famous words of all. Turning to the Moffs, he pointed a finger at them as the armored boots of Stormtroopers suddenly marched into the room. With a voice filled with a rage that had never been shown before, Varks denounced them and all their kind, labeling them traitors to the Empire and the New Order, and that from this point forward all traitors would be dealt with in the proper way, not given the respect of good Imperial men.
The Stormtroopers raised their blasters as the Moffs struggled to stand, and opened fire.
Every single member of the Moffs council died that day, on Holo. Throughout the Fleet, Varks' men repeated the incident against Officers Varks had pointed out as Warlords. The Imperial Remnant was soaked in the blood of a great purge, that left hundreds, if not thousands of officers dead on their own ships. Sith Inquisitors that had loyally remained with the Warlords found themselves up against the wall and executed without even the whiff of a trial. Aliens who had scrambled to officer posts found themselves jettisoned into the cold embrace of space as the New Order was re-established by Varks.
Almost unanimously, the Stormtrooper Legions had sworn their allegiance to Varks as the Supreme Warlord of the Empire, a title Varks had claimed in a speech echoing the announcement of Palpatine's Executive Order Sixty-Six.
The bloodshed disgusted many, and a few managed to escape what they saw as Varks' madness before it claimed them. Varks took out his anger on their families, ensuring that the traitors had paid dearly for their sins against him and his Perfect Order.
With the Imperial Remnants united for the first time since the Battle of Endor, and with a leader that believed firmly in the cause of a new Galactic Empire, the Imperial Remnants stretched out towards the stars, reclaiming and strengthening their position for the next war with the New Republic.
Varks, unlike many of his predecessors, did not initially have an interest in fighting against the Rebels and their New Republic. Secret communications established by Palpatine himself long ago reported disturbances in a region of space that the ancient and hated Sith had once inhabited. Varks' instincts had him send a fleet to Yavin IV, to scout out the area and look for traces of the Sith. The fleet was identified as an invading force by the New Republic, and a large scale battle erupted between the two sides that sent the Imperials reeling back all the way to Bastion, and left parts of the surface of Yavin burial sites for mighty star destroyers.
That turned into the final straw for Varks. He could no longer ignore the New Republic in favor of a threat that he was not sure of yet. He turned his forces against the New Republic, promising retribution on a scale the Republic had not seen since the days of Alderaan.
The Empire was prepared for war once more.
