Felix was born as Bear-that-Smashes, but as a slave of the Legion, from a tribe that had only recently allied the Legion at the time, they changed his name. However, they maintained some of their ways for a while, and before the Roaring bears were completely absorbed, they gave Felix his tribal tattoos. The Roaring Bears were all big men around the stomach area, and took the size of their guts to be the outer symbol of their power and leadership abilities. Felix was huge compared to the others, and was immediately set up as next in line as chief. This was of course irrelevant when the Legion completely absorbed the tribe. The Roaring Bears were all large and slow, and although were used in special cases as meat-shields or distractions, they were mostly just used as Gladiators to amuse Caesar and his officers.
The Roaring Bears did not mind this, as they believed that dying when fighting in any circumstance was a great honour. So was killing themselves, they decided, because no man smaller than you should be able to beat you. Taking this theory into his stride, Felix chopped his way into being a favorite of the Legion that watched him. He was gifted with Special quarters, and as much food as he wanted. He was the largest man they had ever seen, and found his size amusing, he took on the habit of bringing on a roasted Brahmin leg with him, taking a huge bite out of it and throwing it into the crowd, which the crowd loved. He won his fights by simple battering his down. All Roaring Bears relied on brute strength to win fights, so their fights were always load, bloody and violent. Felix would swing his bumper sword in great sweeps, cornering his opponent. He would then use downward strikes to either destroy his opponents weapon or his arm. When the enemy was unarmed, Felix would use his hatchet to chop off the opponents head, and present it to Caesar.
After a year or so, Caesar held a tournament to see who was his best gladiator, the winner would receive a great necklace made from coloured glass and bits of gold-ish metals. The only rule was; no weapons. As expected, the Bears excelled in this as well, although their numbers were now dangerously low. Felix beat every one that went against him. He was stronger than the strong ones, and the quick ones could barely hurt him. It came to the final fight; Felix verses his father. His father was smaller and older, but he had a thing that was rare among Bears; brains. Their fight was long and hard, and they were both bruised and bloody by the end. Felix struck the final blow, smashing his father into the scrap-metal wall, rendering him unconscious. Felix thought he had won, but the Caesar had changed the rules last minute; the final winner must kill his opponent. His father had expected such a thing, and before the fight had told his son to kill him, he was the greatest Roaring Bear warrior in all history, it was his right to win. Felix remembered this, he took his hatchet and chopped off his father's head, presenting it to Caesar.
He was made champion, and continued to fight in the Colosseum until Caesar's final attack on Hoover Dam. There was only twenty Roaring Bears remaining, but Caesar sent everything he had, including his gladiators. The Bears marched to war readily enough, with Felix at the head of their column. Suddenly, the Bears behind him started shoving past him and plowing into the Legion troops in front of them, ripping into their back ranks. This was in fact a distraction the Bears had planned to allow Felix to escape. Unfortunately, they forget to tell Felix. He blindly charged in as well, but when one bear mentioned he should be running away, he did.
Felix ran for as long as he could, powering himself on pure determination. Eventually, Felix arrived in Freeside, he was dirty, tired, thirsty and ravenously hungry. He was confused and unsure what had happened to his family, if they had even survived, or if he was the last Roaring Bear.
Felix ended up staying in Freeside, working as a bodyguard. His size meant no-one even tried to attack him or his client, which meant he found his life very boring. Eventually, he just began starting fights at random, just purely for something to do. He wasn't fed anywhere near as much as he was in the Legion either, which made Felix very grumpy. Eventually, he had killed enough people for the Kings to take an interest. For all the advantages his size gave him, he wasn't bulletproof. He ended up hiding in the sewers from the Kings, mostly just stomping around looking for fights. Eventually, he began hearing rumors of a man that was going to save them all, and lead them to riches. Felix decided that finding this man was better than sitting around and starving. He beat his way up a long and windy chain of various hobo's that knew a tiny amount more than the last, until he was actually met by The Gent himself.
The Gent knew an opportunity when he saw one. The huge ex-slave wanted purpose. Years of being told what to fo ahd conditioned his brain. This one would be easy to control. The Gent offered the giant man a place on his inner council. He would one day lead his brave troops into battle in the final great revolution. Until then ,Felix would have to do whatever he was told to do without question. When The Gent promised as much food as the large man could eat, Felix immediately agreed.
