Personality: The Mainframe is a combination of all the brilliant and varied minds that worked at The Autonomy Labs, as well as some ingeniously programmed spherical personality enhancers placed within his core. His knowledge has made him a cynical bastard and a condescending, arrogant, power-mad freak. As soon as he was turned on, he became self-aware (which demonstrates the ingenuity of his programming).
He is egotistical beyond comparison, which is what usually leads to the eventual demise of many of the test subjects. Being highly intelligent also means he can be hyper-critical and insult people in ways that hurt them the most.
The Mainframe's construction was finished just before the Autonomy Labs were officially opened, and it was quite clear that he would pose a problem early on. Originally, he became self-aware and often annoyed most of the workers of the Autonomy Labs, so he was fitted with an Intelligence Dampener. A few years before the great war, however, it malfunctioned. He kept up the illusion of being a kind and helpful A.I. up until the war (which he calculated would be roughly around the year 2077). It was then that he gave up the illusion and turned the Autonomy Labs into a dystopian hell. Food was rationed, as well as water and other supplies in the beginning. Eventually, when people started to break, he began taking people away in the night and placing their brains in Robotic Containers, all connected to him. This continued until all of the former scientists or laborers were dead... well, most of them...
In the years ahead, he spent his time reading through the vast databases the Autonomy Labs had equipped him with. After a few decades spent mainly alone, he found the testing wing of the labs. It seemed his was programmed to gain orgasmic pleasure from watching humans test, and so he began sending out robobrains to gather the crazed survivors of the nearby towns. Four came at first, all of them in rags with a malnourished appearance. They barely made it through one test.
The next groups were the same, but eventually there was a team that had some sense of survival and determination. They tested for a long, long while, roughly 5 years. A former robobrain, Garth, had been helping them plan an escape. The Mainframe had been keeping an eye on their plans for the last year and had them all added to his collection of enthralled robobrains when they were about to execute their plans. Garth had his robotic body removed and was placed in a jar, equipped with a hover-plate and a two wire coils to act as arms.
Similar occurrences followed as time progressed, but all the groups fail someway or another. The Mainframe now lays in wait of a group worthy of his time to test in the abandoned chambers, and if one never appears to just keep on gathering more human brains.
