Me, ThreeDawgs and Possessedcheddar have come up with an idea for a horror thread for Fallout.
The Thread's focus will be around an abandoned amusement park under the name of Wilson Automatoys Amusement Park and Zoo or Giddy-Up and Friends' Ranch. I don't want to mention the exact ideas we've had, but you can view the Mascots faction thread (It's still a WIP) and, when Cheddar and Dawgs make them, the area/environment thread and the full history of the theme park. Know this though; the thread is designed to be very disturbing and unsettling for the players.
If anyone is interested in such a thread, post here. If Dawgs of Cheddar want to add to what I've said they can post here too.

I'm not entirely sure what those references are, but I agree that most of the horror factor would just be in the dialogue/actions of the Mascots. The more of a disconnect between the horror of what they are doing and are compared to the lighthearted scripted dialogue will go a long way.
Another thing that recently popped into my head is "Wilson". Do you have a back story for the name yet? If not, then it could very well be connected to Wilson's Garage in Fallout 3. He would be the sort of character who in the pre-war America had his hand in a bit of everything - Vault Tec and Giddy Up Pony being just two of them - and the more horrendous you make him the darker the park will be.
An evil Walt Disney character, basically.

Well Wilson's Automatoys is the name of the company that produced the line of toys, Giddy-Up Buttercup, and the TV show associated with it. We assumed they had made many more lines of toys before this and, yeah, were basically the Fallout version of Disney.
It is going tp be dark, there is more to this place than just mad mascots and broken robots.
Evil lurks in the shadows.

Just what I was expecting. Anyway, the only reason why I mentioned the Wilson Garage thing is because it's the only mention of a pre-war Wilson in canon that I know of and I thought we could the park creepier if it had links to Vault - Tec and virtual reality ... then again Vaults have been overdone.
Another idea: Disney is really well known for it's animated movies - maybe we can have the same be the case for Wilson's Autotoys where the film stars the various mascots in the park. Maybe the films, or clips of the films that have survived the holocaust, still play in a drive through in the park (since I don't think movie theaters were ever made in the Fallout universe). Maybe the automatons were scripted to roam through the parking lot where the visitors were watching their shows and interact with them in their cars.
But now, the drive through is a field of dead cars, and the Mascots wander through it as the film flickers on the screen in the background.
...Good enough of a contribution? I'll think of some more once I have more info on the park.

An evil Walt Disney character, basically. I had already thought about involving him with government subliminal messaging projects and mind-controlling experiments surrounding his robotic line of toys, but nothing concrete (although he will have been involved in various nefarious schemes and therefore the park will be, like you said, a much darker place. As for the part about showing cartoon clips in a theatre, I already had a similar idea. Each mascot has their own special attraction or area that they generally have control of, e.g. Melvin the Mighty Mouse resides and controls Melvin's Workshop. In their specific areas, I thought it'd be a good idea for there to be an area with a projecter and a reel of film to show an episode of the cartoon series they appeared in albeit the film would be distorted, damaged and down-right disturbing. I like the ideas that are coming in, hopefully we'll get quite a few players in this Roleplay.

Are all the mascots real, or do we make them up?

We need less mascots and more people to play the visitors

Are all the mascots real, or do we make them up? If you can come up with an area for them to control, the cartoon the mascot was based on and a name and theme of a mascot then you can make one. But to quote ThreeDawgs, we need more VISITORS and less mascots, otherwise they'll be no protagonists or "heroes" in the thread.
