He was found in a shopping cart outside St. Mary's catholic church, where he was picked up and brought inside by Father Marley. Father Marley was Kaleb's mentor, and Kaleb was Father Marley's light in the darkness. He thought of Kaleb as the son he never could have.
Father Marley shared his religion through the power of radio. He shared his knowledge of radio tech, Catholicism, and wasteland survival with Kaleb. He showed Kaleb all the ins & outs of a radio receiver, taught him to broadcast over frequencies, and live off the land. The more knowledge Kaleb gained about his religious beliefs, tech, and survival, the more he became interested.

The streets of Baton Rouge was no place for Catholicism, Raiders and junkies owned the streets of this city. They didn't care for a religious radio too much. As Father Marley & Kaleb grew older, Kaleb took over the radio station. He would broadcast all of religious music, and talk as long as he wanted. He would encourage people to join the church and kelp spread the word of hope throughout the wasteland. He would get a few people in and out of the missionary. He would offer food, water and shelter. Very many people took advantage of this, they would steal, vandalize, and insult the church, Kaleb didn't care for this much. A few months after Kaleb took over the radio station, Father Marley became very ill. Kaleb couldn't keep up with all the junkies vandalizing the church, and taking care of Father Marley.
Kaleb made a decision the shut down the church to outsiders, but still broadcast over the radio. The junkies and raiders didn't like the fact that their free stuff wasn't open to them any more. So they threatened Kaleb with burning down the church. He shrugged off the threats, and didn't pay them any mind. He didn't think they would go through with it, but to be sure he asked Father Marley if he had any kind of defense in the church. Father Marley gave Kaleb his old rife he used to scavenge with. This was his last resort.
Just then the junkies rushed through the doors of the church and they were not going to stop, until they got what they wanted. Kaleb rushed Father Marley upstairs and hunkered down. Smoke started to rise through the floor of the second story, and Kaleb panicked. Kaleb out of the second story window below, the Mississippi river rushed beside the church. Kaleb beckoned Father Marley to jump, and he refused. Father Marley told Kaleb that this was HIS church, and he was going down with it. Father Marley pushed Kaleb out of the window, into the Mississippi river below.
