Lucas Valentine was born in Boneyard, California, on the coast of New California Republic territory. His father was a Police Officer, and his mother was a tailor. Although he went out a lot, Lucas' father, Vincent always made sure to spend quality time with his son, teaching him the ancient methods of Shotokan Karate. Mia, his mother, was fond of old formal wear, and spent quite some time recreating old suits and dresses, and even fabricating new ones. As such, she made quite a lot of money, making and repairing articles of clothing for the citizens, soldiers and officials of the New California Republic. Valentine went by his surname, for most of his life, with only his mother calling him Lucas.
Lucas' father, Vincent was the chief of police for their jurisdiction, which resided in what used to be the famed Hollywood. It was here that Mia found even more clothes to repair, sell and gift to those who deserved it. Vincent Valentine re-ignited the flame of the pre-War Los Angeles Police Department. Vincent was a sentimental old sod, so he wanted to keep the pre-War names for everything that had one. At age 15, it was suitable enough for Lucas to join the LAPD. It made for a lot of training, and passing time. He even earned himself a very hefty number of caps.
As a young woman, living in Boneyard, Mia met a roaming trader, by the name of Oscar. Mia was lucky enough to have a holotape player, and Oscar was lucky to have a holodisk recording of Vera Keyes singing. She bought the holodisk, and listened to it while she made clothing and armor. As Oscar came back around, he had a picture of Vera Keyes at the Sierra Madre, in her dress, only a month before the bombs dropped. The picture was the original, put into the papers at Los Angeles; before it became the Angel's Boneyard. She recreated the black and red dress to fit her, and it became the dress she wore on her wedding day.
As she aged, and had Lucas to look after, she still listened to the holodisks of Vera's singing. Eventually, when Lucas turned eighteen, Mia bestowed a gift unto him, a suit to match Vera Keyes' dress. Valentine wore it to every formal gathering between him and the NCR, unless on-duty. In these times, he met Lawrence, a pre-war Ghoul, who spent quite a lot of time with him. While Lawrence was unable to perform Karate, since he was two-hundred and something years old, he was able to appreciate the peacefulness and functionality of Shotokan. Lucas too took an interest in his tattoos, each of them signifying some important aspect of his pre-War life. The two of them both wanted to leave Boneyard, not because they disliked it, but because they wanted to explore, to find others like them, while bringing their own style of Wasteland Justice.
On the journey to New Vegas with Lawrence, they found many interesting things. Fort Irwin was the old base of operations for the 11th Military Cavalry Squad, an old monument to the NCR and pre-War America. At the Fort, there was a man in a Vault 11 jumpsuit, who it appeared, had been eaten by ghouls. Poor bastard. Though, it wasn't a bad opportunity to snag a Pip-Boy. Lucas and his lifelong friend, Leonard soon made their way to New Vegas, to write a new chapter in their lives. He approached at the Freeside gate, smiling, as he looked to Leonard, before pushing the gate open.
