The world of Elder Scrolls can be a confusing place, it's all wishy-washy and everywhere. Our site is no different! So this hub thread is designed to help you get a grasp on how we organise the Elder Scrolls section here. Consider it a table of contents for the lore/roleplay guide section, but also the character/faction creation elements. Hopefully it'll help ease you into creating characters here and RPing in the setting.
Character Creation
If you'd like to make a character, this is our Character Application Form. You can follow the information on this form and each section will explain as needed what to review to fill out that section. Another guide related to character creation is how we broke down Attributes and Skills to better ease roleplaying in Elder Scrolls.
If you'd like to create a brand new faction, group of people or village/town for Elder Scrolls then this is our Faction Application Form. Like the other applications, the faction application form will have helpful links to guide you through the process. Once accepted as complete, the faction will join our site specific canon!
Canon Events
On the subject of canon, at Nexus we've gone over (almost) every inch of Elder Scrolls canon with a fine-toothed comb to create what we think is the best environment for roleplaying. In doing so, we've had to create a lot of site-specific lore points and references that make up our canon. While we try to stick as faithfully as we can to existing lore, the RPG nature of the Elder Scrolls games means that some decisions had to be set in stone. Thankfully the events from Elder Scrolls 1 - 4 and Online are so distant in the past that they have little to no bearing on the events of the Fourth Era, but decisions had to be made over the events in The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Legends and Blades.
With this in mind, we've created a Timeline of the Fourth Era to cover the events in Tamriel. In it, you'll find an in-depth look at the history of Tamriel of both official canon events and site-specific canon events from the Oblivion Crisis onwards. The present day of our setting is 10 years after the events of TES:Skyrim conclude.
Canon Faction Guides
Building off the events of the Fourth Era, we thought it a good idea to display all the information we have gathered and created for the main factions of the setting. These factions are broken down into the major geopolitical players: the Cyrodiilic Empire, the Third Aldmeri Dominion, the Kingdom of Hammerfell and the Saxhleel of Argonia.
In these guides you will find basic information on the factions, their leadership, the composition of their armies and further information on the sub-factions or groups subordinate to the faction such as: The Kingdoms of High Rock, the Kingdom of Valenwood and the Khajiit Kingdoms.
Canon Provincial Guides
Because the world of Elder Scrolls is much more about the provinces and the people that live in it instead of grand geopolitical activity, we have also developed a collection of guides for each of the provinces of Tamriel. In these guides you will find information on the people, rulers, cities, locations of note and sub-factions that inhabit the province.
Other Lore Guides
Due to the overwhelming amount of lore on Elder Scrolls and the fact that it is so dispersed amongst sources, we have also taken it upon us to create canon guides for somewhat obscure points of lore. These are purely there for your enjoyment, so you can build roleplays that are immersive as possible. These guides take the form of lore-books written by our in-universe Scholar, an enigmatic source of information from an in-universe perspective.
Mundus: The Arts of Magic. A guide on the magical schools of the Elder Scrolls, a very useful resource for creating and playing as characters that use magic!
Nirn: Secrets of the Foreign Lands. A guide on the other landasses of Tamriel, their current state and basic geography. These locations are likely to be fully expanded upon in the future of the site.
Tamriel: A Land of Man, Mer and Beast. A guide on the races of Elder Scrolls, a must read for creating characters to get an idea of how their race will affect them.
Tamriel: The Imperial Bestiary. An extensive and suplementary guide on the various non-typical humanoids and species of Elder Scrolls. A good resource for roleplay!
Oblivion: Children of Oblivion. A guide on the races and species of Daedra that inhabit Oblivion. Consider it a bestiary of Daedra.
Oblivion: The Innumerable Planes. A guide on the realms of Oblivion we know about and their inhabitants.
The Clockwork City: Sotha Sil's Enigma. A guide on the environment, society, people and creatures that inhabit Sotha Sil's mysterious Clockwork City.
