History:
A scientist in the Institute created Kirra when his 10 year old daughter Amanda passed away. Amanda was buried in secret, to make sure no-one knew she had died. He then bribed a small group of engineers to build Kirra. She was meant to look exactly like the daughter, and have the personality and memories of her too. Still, the danger of her getting found out by the Synth Retention Bureau was too great, so he made a plan.
The three of them would have to leave the Institute and go to the Capital Wasteland. There was a place called Tenpenny Tower he heard was safe and civil, as long as you could get in. And so when she was complete, they packed there things, said their goodbyes and left. From the commonwealth, they hired a bunch of mercenaries to escort them to their destination.
They managed to get quite far, encountering very little trouble in the time it took them to reach the Capital Wasteland. Unfortunately, they ran into a group of super mutants near a bridge, south of the Chryslus Building. And although they put up quite a fight, they were eventually all slain. All except the young android who, besides getting hit in the head by some fragments of cement causes by a grenades explosion, was only knocked out.
Damaged during the battle, Kirra, with the appearance of a 10 year old child, woke up among the numerous dead Super Mutants and Mercenaries. With no memory of what she was and minor damage to the back of her head, she wandered for hours until eventually collapsing from exhaustion. When she came to, she was being approached by a caravan. Two of the caravan guards, a male and a female both in their mid thirties, agreed to bring Kirra with them.
The caravan had been headed towards the flourishing community of Rivet City, the next stop in its route and the home of the pair of caravan guards. Soon after they arrived, the Taylor family took her in and adopted her, as she didn't seem to have anyone else to go to.
When they took her to Doctor Preston to properly clean the head wound, they soon found out what Kirra was. After hours of arguing and Dr Preston being sworn to secrecy, they agreed to not tell her. After realizing that as an android, Kirra wouldn't grow (and therefore be un-able to live a 'normal' life), they voiced their problem to Preston. Dr Preston told them of a small group named "The Railroad" who might be able to help them.
Days later, they met with a young woman named Victoria Watts. She explained to them that they helped androids and could assist in their problem with Kirra. So it was arranged, every 3 months or so, Kirra would go to special 'appointments' with the Railroad and a man named Pinkerton. Parts would be repaired or replaced, and it would seem to most she was growing. Her memory of what happened would be erased after the appointments, just to be safe.
Over the next year or so, Kirra was taught how to speak, read and write. She proved to be shy, clumsy and not the smartest at times (of which her parents blamed the head injury), but she was surely not stupid and could accomplish astonishing things when she was determined. She was taught basic survival skills, like maintaining equipment, how to make a fire and how to shoot.
During the age of 12, her parents started working again, doing their old job as caravan guards. This left Kirra home alone a lot, so she started finding things to keep her occupied. She did many things to keep herself occupied; she found books of all kinds (her favourite being a magazine called "Guns and Bullets"), searched the ship for scrap metal and other sellable goods, learnt the basics of lock picking and most important of them all, made a friend.
Kirra's first and only friend was a young blonde girl named Victoria, who was one of the few people who ignored her shy nature and tried to befriend her. She taught Kirra a few things about computers, which she enjoyed, and in return Kirra was a loyal friend. Kirra liked being around Victoria and as hopeless as she was with socialising, she never had problems around her.
When Kirra was 14, she saw less and less of Victoria, as Vicky got more involved with her work. Kirra decided it would be good for her to start working too. She started asking her parents to train her, and when they had time off, they did. She practised with all kinds of firearms, from pistols and revolvers to low caliber rifles, and was eventually allowed to go with her parents on the safer routes. A few times she noticed time would seem to slow around her, allowing her to aim far easier. She thought this was just the adrenaline rush and decided not to worry about it.
During the age of 15, she continued growing her skills with weapon. She learnt more about terminals, learnt some of the finer points of lock picking (no small part due to Locksmiths Reader) and even tried to learn how to disarm explosives. Which, due to her natural clumsiness, only led to her creating numerous small craters outside Rivet City and more than a few injuries. Only her basic knowledge of which side of a stimpak you're meant to use kept her from serious harm. She wasn't allowed to leave Rivet City much, some Vault dweller was stirring up the wasteland and it was becoming dangerous.
At the age of 16, things calmed down a bit. She became a fully fledged caravan guard and did routes with her parents and even a few by herself, then disaster stuck. In a Super Mutant attack on the caravan, which felt oddly familiar, a terrible fate befell the Taylor family. A handful of guards escorted the caravan to safety while the others distracted the Mutants. The battle was brutal, and although a few survived, Kirra's parent were not included in them. After the battle they scavenged the dead Mutants and some even stayed to bury their comrades. A few went after the caravan and continued with it, but most packed up and headed home. After she arrived home, Kirra mourned the loss of her parents. For days and days she grieved, as she would never see her loved ones again.
She eventually had to continue on with her life, which inevitably got stranger, as it was decided she should know what she was. Although extremely confused, she took the news surprisingly well and then made an odd request. She wanted to be moved to the age 20, skipping the 4 years in-between. In no place to question her, it was done, and shortly after she grabbed her pack and left Rivet City to explore the wastes.
Over the next 4 years, Kirra did a lot of travelling. She occasionally stopped at settlements, doing jobs to earn caps, buy equipment, rest or simply ask what's going on in the wasteland. She went from Rivet City to Old Olney, then moved across the wastes to remains of Raven Rock. She then travelled down to Girdershade, from which she travelled east, to the Arlington library. After a brief stop in Rivet City she went on to see the centre of the Capital Wasteland, seeing all the things she missed while travelling around the edges. By the time this was done, she had a pretty accurate mental map of the wasteland, and began the journey back to Rivet City, It was time to come home.
In the ruins of DC, roughly 6 months after her quick stop at Rivet City, she came across a police station. As anyone would, she went to scavenge the place. After discovering the first floor had been looted clean of anything worth taking, she went to search the second floor. Oddly enough, the door had been locked, so she picked the lock and opened the door. Fourteen dead feral ghouls later, her armour was shredded and her lucky hunting rifle was destroyed. Luckily, she thought, what's a better location to replace those things then a police station.
Looking through the building, she came across a locked door, with the faded words "Riot Control" next to it. After a few minutes of frustration and breaking bobby pins, she finally got it unlocked. Inside were a dozen sets of Riot Gear, as well as multiple Riot Shotguns, everything else was too decayed to be of value. She soon got to work, repairing the best equipment with the rest. She tried on her new armour, which fit well and would offer a much better protection then her shredded combat armour. She contemplated taking one of the helmets, but decided against it, as it would obstruct her vision too much. After engraving her family name "Taylor" on the side of her new shotgun, she left the building, off to explore the wastes again...
