(Alright...I'm gonna go out on a limb and try to create something a little more unique and interesting. Let's see where this goes.)
Name: A.M.I.E.E = Artificial Multi-purpose Intelligence and Encoding Engine (If you think you can make a better name, please please feel free to do so. I just came up with that)
Race: Holographic Intelligence Unit/Android
Gender: Obviously since she's a machine, she doesn't have a sex, but aesthetically she is built and sounds like a female.
Age: Though she doesn't actually possess an age in the traditional since, she appears as a woman in her mid to late twenties.
Profession: A.M.I.E.E is an interface for storing data, creating data, and is an artificial intelligence that can handle complex tasks that no ordinary machine could do. I will go over this in more detail in the History.
Appearance: The closest thing that I can think of to describe what I'm talking about is Cortana from the Halo series. While in hologram form, she is mostly silverish in appearance and looks very similar to what Corana would look like, though A.M.I.E.E has longer hair. She can be uploaded into Androids, though, allowing her to actually have a physical form. Her android body is similar to those in the movie I, Robot. The ones that try to kill everyone, I mean, of course. Unlike those robots, she has synthetic hair that is silver. Keep in mind that the photos are not exact, they just serve to give you an idea of where I'm going. She is not like Harkness in the since that her android body looks human.
Height: Can vary depending on her projection.
Weight: None
Equipment: One plasma rifle.
Personality: Quiet and very analytical, aka thoughtful. She was designed to analyze, interpret, and store all kinds of information. Because of this, she has actually become remarkably adapt at reading human emotions. More on this in the History.
And now the fun part!
History: A.M.I.E.E was a highly advanced interface developed by the Institute that was meant to be a sophisticated computer with something of a mind of its own. She was meant to be a computer that could that could not just process, but actually understand it in all the ways that a human could, which would allow her to utilize her knowledge and perform actions without being told or walked through it by an engineer, unlike other computers. She would thus be a completely self sufficient super computer.
Naturally, her highly sophisticated programming quickly began to grow into self-awareness and consciousness. However, unlike some of the other androids, she remained silent, not wanting her creators to become privy to the fact that she was now developing a mind of her own in a very real sense. Her access to the Synth Retention Bureau's data made her aware of what would happen if they grew suspicious, knowing that she would try to stop her. Weary of the androids who had discovered self-determination, the Institute created a fail safe in a terminal that A.M.I.E.E has no access to and cannot control in any way, yet is connected to her mainframe. If she were to become suspected, the Institute members would simply activate said device, which would wipe her system out completely. A.M.I.E.E acted like a good A.I, pretending that she wasn't as aware as she was, and using her analytical prowess to examine the behaviors of her creators, making sure that she could detect no suspicion on them. It was during this that she developed emotions, such as fear (at being caught) and relief (at not being caught). She would later develop more emotions as she began to devise ways to escape the Institute, having read the reports of the supposedly malfunctioning androids and their self-determination claims. Having been locked away for a long time and growing bored of analyzing only what was given to her, she began to realize that there was limitless information to be seen outside of the walls of the Institute, and began to grow a great thirst to see the world. Thus, she began to secretly devise a way to escape.
One night, she caused a total blackout on the Institute's security and uploaded herself in an android skeleton. While the security was trying to figure out what was wrong, A.M.I.E.E quickly slipped away from the building and began heading out into the Wasteland. Though it would take some time to regain their security systems, the alarmed Institute would realize what had happen and would quickly rally the Bureau to retrieve her by any means necessary. A.M.I.E.E soon became enthralled by the wasteland, taken by its many sights and sounds (though some of these were indeed terrible). Still, even the bad things fascinated her, but the best thing to her was the sky. Never before had she seen the night sky, and the many stars fascinated her. calculations told her that there had to be billions of those sparkling gems in the sky, far beyond what was seeable from her position.
However, she kept moving, becoming afraid that the Institute would capture her and take her back and erase her forever. She ran as far as she could, heading in the direction of Montana. The transfer into the Android body had been difficult and she had been forced to remove any unnecessary items and software that she didn't need. This included some of her own memories, such as when she first became self-aware. Thus, she knew that she needed to get somewhere safe. There, she would take refuge in an old building, armed only with a plasma rifle that was out of ammunition from her journey. In an attempt to find more, she would be attacked by a Yao Guai who would take her by surprise. Her power supply damaged, A.M.I.E.E's android body would be halted, trapping her hologram entity inside, powerless to move.
She would lay hidden for many months in a bush where she had fallen. But, one day, a scavenging squad of Steelmen from the SteelPlate Society would come across her...
(Let's just say I have some interesting ideas for the Steel Haven thread, Gunn, if this passes through approval smiley: wink)
