As the title suggests, this will be based on the prohibition era-bootleggers. There will be two main sides- cops and criminals. But if you want to be an innocent bystander that's okay, too. I'll go into more details about these two sides below. COPS: Working for the US government to put an end to the sales of alcohol. If you decide to be a cop, you can be anything from a small town sheriff, to a beat cop, to an FBI G-Man. CRIMINALS: These are the guys making the alcohol. There will be two main sects working together- small town criminals, and the mob. If you are a small town guy, that's just a country hick making moonshine out of his shed, or maybe a guy using his Model T to distribute the liquor. If you're the Mob, you are gonna be better armed, have more influence, and be better trained and organized. BACKSTORY: In 1931, Franklin County, Virginia, was the bootlegger capitol of the world. It was so profitable, that a certain big city mob boss decided to take a trip down there to visit a distant relative who was in on the bootlegging game, to try to help him out, and even get a cut of the profit. The police, both local and federal, caught wind of this, and are scrambling to find some proof or cause to charge the family. If all goes according to plan, this won't happen until the climax. Name: Raymond Ballthrop Nicknames (if applicable): N/A Age: 23 Personality: Raymond is young and eager to make a name for himself. The youngest of three children, he was usually picked on, and now wants to make everyone know that he can take care of himself. He is slightly smarter than average, but at the same time a little naive. He has a natural curiosity and a helpful attitude Physical Appearance: Raymond is tall and lanky. Because of his thin frame, he is not physically intimidating. He has blue eyes and light brown hair, shaved very close on the sides and styled on top, like this: He stays clean shaven. Clothing: Most of the time, Raymond will wear work pants with suspenders, worn leather boots, and either a solid shirt buttoned all the way to the top, or a 3 button undershirt, left unbuttoned, both long sleeved. If he is outside, he is wearing a wide brimmed slightly worn tan fedora. He owns one suit, a single breasted tan belt back, with light stripes, a white shirt, and a red striped tie. Equipment: Raymond uses his 1920 Ford Model T Pickup to run his moonshine around the area. For protection, he has a Colt m1917 Revolver and a double barrel shotgun. History: Born in 1908, Raymond is the youngest child and consequently was picked on by his older brothers. Despite this, he looked up to his brothers and wanted to be accepted by them. His chance came in 1919, when the 18th amendment was passed, banning the sale of alcohol in the nation. Seeing it as an opportunity to make some money, his family quickly joined in on the bootlegging business. Despite being only eleven, Raymond started learning from his father how to make alcohol, starting with making wine from concentrated grapes, following the instructions the local grocer put on the label disguised as steps to avoid accidentally making wine. He soon moved on to whiskey and moonshine. He worked diligently with his father in the shed until his father was killed during a drunken brawl in 1921. By this time, his brother Harold had left the family for New York City, so he stayed with his oldest brother, Samuel. They continued the business alone, with Samuel making the product, and Raymond delivering around the community.

Today Montgomery uses these talents for the betterment of the United States of America, after he became interested in the police force, he started out as low level patrol officer in New York, his overseers began to notice his special talents, they figured that Montgomery could very easily determine, what had a occurred in many crime scenes such as vehicular accidents, and in one of the few extremes: murder.
The recognition of his exceptional gift, lead to his promotion to the title of inspector, he began with somewhat simple cases but eventually moved up to the more advanced cases.
as time passed he became more aware of the issues in Franklin county Virginia, he begged for the chief of police in New York, to get him a transfer to the small county, although the chief of police did not want Montgomery to go he believed that his talents may better fit the needs of the small county, so the transfer was made and now Montgomery is now inspecting the Bootleggers activities.

Name: Riccardo D'Angelo Jr. Nicknames (if applicable): Rick, Don, Boss Age: 45 Personality: Riccardo D'Angelo rules his empire with an iron fist, but isn't stupid. He can sniff out a fishy deal, or a bad move. The D'Angelo crime family was founded by his father, Riccardo Sr. His father pulled the family into greatness, even in Italia, and Riccardo Jr. has adopted his father's style of commanding, only getting involved when need be, and letting his Underboss, or Caporegimes handle the work. At home, he is a family man, and loves his wife and child with great affection, often shielding his wife from the family business, but getting his son into the business. Physical Appearance: Riccardo is about 5'10, shaven, and has short, combed dark hair. He likes to wear a suit and whenever possible. He has a fit shape for his age, and looks young, for his age, although the signs are starting to show. Clothing: Suit: Fedora: Equipment: + History: Riccardo D'Angelo Jr. was born in Sicily, and spent quite a few years there. Riccardo Sr. ran a small time criminal organization while there, but wanted to expand his horizons, so Riccardo Sr., his son, and his wife moved to America, specifically, New York. When they arrived, Riccardo Sr. spent no time getting into criminal society, starting from shady jobs, easy whacks, and tough-guy enforcement. He gained a lot of respect, from many organizations, and they looked up to him. He reformed the small-time mobsters into real criminals. Henceforth, his organization was known as the D'Angelo Crime Syndicate. Riccardo Sr. groomed his son to take over the family business when he passed. And he trained quite well, as Riccardo Jr. had to take over at the young age of 24, when his father was assassinated by a rival family. When Riccardo took over, the family was still small time, and Riccardo planned to change that, starting with rackets. Many cigarette shops, butcheries, florist shops, any many more were fronts for criminal activity. Riccardo started slowly, only gaining the tiniest amount of money and respect, but they started to get more aggressive, taking over rival businesses, stealing from rival families, the list goes on. But the easiest family was swallowed by the D'Angelos. Soon, the other families paid proper respect, and the D'Angelos backed off from assaults on rival families. Riccardo D'Angelo was married to Grace Pelossi once things settled down, and they had a child, Gianni D'Angelo. As Riccardo's father did to him, Riccardo groomed Gianni for the mobster life. The D'Angelo Crime Syndicate has taken over many small-time families, and a few large ones, they are feared by the small-time mobsters, and respected by the large families. The Family was invited to join the Commission recently, and they have only benefited from this more.

Name: Gianni D'Angelo Nicknames (if applicable): Gi Age: 20 Personality: Gianni has a bubbly personality, the respect he is given, he gives back. He is a kind man, to everyone. He believes that no matter what, a person can redeem themselves, and always deserve a second chance. He treats his parents with the utmost respect, and obeys their every request. Physical Appearance: Gianni is a spitting image of his father, and tries to look like him. He shaves often, combs his hair back, and always wears a suit. Clothing: Equipment: History: Gianni D'Angelo was born before the first War, only a few years though, so he wasn't able to enlist, he didn't want to anyway. Instead, his father taught him everything he knows about organized crime. His childhood was a grand one, he was given what he wanted, but his father always asked him for favors, favors that an Italian had to do. Favors that would train him for the Mob life. As an early teen, Gianni was introduced into the Mafia, as the Underboss, the one that would lead in the Don's absence. He proved himself rather well, even for such a low age, he was able to get things done. Gianni wasn't given many grand operations, until recently, where he has headed down for the Bootlegging operations.

(P.S. I only know the stuff I've learned in GSCE history about Prohibition, so I might not be factually correct all the time)
Name: Mark O' Connor
Nicknames (if applicable): He is known to the Mafia as "Deep Pockets"
Profession: Plain-clothes Prohibition Agent for Franklin County.
Age: 36
Personality: Mark is fairly easy to get along with, and has a fairly sarcastic sense of humour. He seems selfless, but deep down he only really cares about benefiting himself and wants to make money out of prohibition too. He is also a coward, but pretends to be brave in front of his peers.
Physical Appearance: Mark isn't a very tall man, standing at 5 feet 8 inches, but he is very stocky and strong. His hair is a fark brown colour, but is now greying and is around 40% grey by now. It is fairly long and is slicked back, most of it covered by his hat. He has an angular face and has exceptionally large hands.
Clothing: He wears a grey 3/4 length peacoat under a squared white shirt with bracers. His pants are a dark grey/black colour. On his head he wars a faded brown fedora, and he also has a pair of very fancy black Italian shoes, given to him by the Mob.
Equipment: He has a revolver in a side holster on his belt. When he is doing something dangerous he is armed with a single barreled shotgun. He can also drive and has a fairly beaten up old model T Ford from near the start of the boom.
History: Mark joined the police force during the First World War in an attempt to avoid conscription to the army. It worked, and he was employed as a police officer in early 1918. At the time he was a cop in Chicago, and in 1923 he got shot in the stomach by a bank robber. Luckily, it didn't damage the spine, but it damage a few of his intestines, and he was hospitalised for a month. Mark has been a coward ever since.
Mark was assigned to be a Prohibition Agent in 1924, and was sent to Franklin County. He has no family, so moving was not a problem. He wasn't there a month before the Mafia had knocked on his door with a bit of cash in their pockets. He resisted for a while, until the temptation of the high amount of extra money grew too much and he succumbed to the Mob. Ever since then he has kept a blind eye to the doings of the Mafia in the county and their allies, but has busted the new start-up bootlegging and moonshine businesses to make it look he is doing his job. This is how Mark's fairly easy life has been, until recently, when he was ordered to help out in the investigation into the family. This was not good, as he is more or less employed by the family to turn a blind eye, and if they find out that he is helping the police in the investigation, they will surely kill him, yet he must help else he will lose his job.

Name: Joeseph Gallaghan Nicknames (if applicable): Joey Age: 24 Personality: Typical 'local' cop. Likes helping people, dislikes gangsters, is one of the 'play by the rules' cops for the most part. Physical Appearance: Average height, 5'7. Short, combed forward brown hair. Brown eyes. Clothing: Virginian State Police Uniform Equipment: Colt Police Positive .38 Special Billy Club Motorcycle Note: Uniform is in that picture as well History: The son of a recent Irish Immigrant who moved to the country in 1916 after the failed Easter Revolution, Lucas has inherited the rather Irish features with his dark brown hair and fairer skin coloring. He has four siblings, two sisters and two brothers of varying ages which he is known to be protective of. He has retained parts of his Irish heritage thanks to his father, but doesn't even consider visiting the home-country. He does -not- have an Irish accent. His father told him the stories, and Luke thinks he'd rather be in the States than Ireland. Infact, the Gallaghans have done well for themselves, with his father and him both being police officers in their home state of Virginia, with Lucas being a motorcycle rider, keeping an eye on the roads. Recently, he's been transferred to Franklin County where he's already established a reputation as a straight and narrow officer...except for his one pet peeve. He's known to visit Speakeasies, but he doesn't rat out folks in there, and they don't rat him out. As a local officer, he's afforded more cordiality than an FBI member, men usually seen as strangers best to avoid. He genuinely believes in helping people and upholding the law, seeing the mob as a threat to the lives and stability of the people.

Name: Harold Ballthrop Nicknames: Big City Harry Age- 32 Personality: Harold is the smartest and smoothest talker of the brothers. He is the one with an education passed high school. He thinks of himself highly and feels his brother's work is beneath him, but works with them anyway. Physical Appearance: Harold has dark hair slicked back, like this: He has brown eyes and an average height and build. Clothing: Harold, despite his current financial status, keeps up his appearances. He has saved all of his clothes from his days in New York, and uses what expendable cash he has left to buy new ones. They all fit well, as he taught himself how to tailor his own clothes. He will usually wear either a white, light blue, or tan shirt with a matching wide brimmed fedora, homburg, or boater hat. In the sun, he wears rounded sunglasses. Equipment: Because of his military training, Harold is competant with weapons. He owns three handguns, his service m1911, a Browning High Power, his name engraved onto the slide, and a .38 Detective Special Snub Nosed. The Browning and the .38 both have ivory grips and a silver finish. He drives a 1928 Durant 60. www.pbase.com/rpdoody/durant_20sHistory: Born in 1908, Harold was the middle brother. The family was very poor, but Harold aspired for greater things. He began cultivating an image of being a wealthy gentleman, despite being dirt poor, and still a teenager. He wanted to leave the family and make a name for himself, and felt trapped in his situation. When he turned 18 in 1917, the first thing he did was inlist in the military, and was shipped to Europe to fight in World War One. This served a dual purpose, it allowed him to seem courageous and worldly, and because of the recently formed AROTC, he was able to afford prestigious universities. After the war, he studied finances at Yale and started working as a stock broker in New York City. He made a substantial living while working during the height of the Roaring 20s, but when the Great Depression hit in 1929, he lost everything. He could not afford the city life, and in 1931, he was forced to move back to his family, who he has not seen since he left for war, and planned never to see again. Name: Samuel Balltrhop Nicknames (if applicable): N/A Age: 38 Personality: Samuel is a stoic, intimidating, mountain of a man. When he speaks, people listen. He is fiercely protective of his business and his family, and isn't afraid to take extreme measures to make sure people know it. He seldom yells, but with his deep, thickly accented voice, he doesn't need too. He is the "leader" of the Ballthrop brothers. Despite his appearance and preformance in school, he is smarter than he looks. Physical Appearance: Samuel is over 6 feet tall, and is a mountain of muscle. He has very short, slightly styled hair and a few days worth of stubble. Clothing: Usually Samuel wears either Overalls with a button up shirt, or a brown vest with a band collar shirt, brown slacks, and suspenders. He wears a worn brown wide brimmed fedora. Equipment: Samuel always carries a colt m1900, and stores a Winchester 1895 for situations that call for more firepower. He also has a large Bowie knife. History: Samuel is the oldest brother, born in 1893. He was always quiet, and preferred to keep to himself. He did not receive good grades in school but there was one thing he was exceptional at in school- wrestling and boxing. When he graduated, he stayed on the family farm to help out the family, and in 1919, he was the one to suggest setting up a bootlegging business. He worked to intimidate other bootleggers in the area into leaving, got the police to stay off the family's back, and made sure the locals knew who they were. After his parents died, he took over. By this time, the community were aware of them, but knew that he would not hurt them unless provoked. The police simply turned a blind eye to their illegal activities.

Name: Silvia Anne Mason Nicknames (if applicable): Silvy Age: 22 Personality: Armed with a bubbly, chipper attitude, Silvia enjoys a party. If a room is dull, she strives to liven the place up. Spoiled, she is not used to being told no and enjoys being treated like a princess. Physical Appearance: Blonde hair Green Eyes 5'3 Clothing: WIP Equipment: Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket History: Being the youngest of four and the only girl, Silvia is used to getting her way and using her feminine charms to her full advantage. Silvy’s first introduction to the ‘better life’ occurred on a summer vacation with friends to Atlantic City when she was 18. Feeling liberated by being away from home and enjoying the thrill of spending nights in speakeasies, she schemed with her friends to move to Chicago and remain unshackled by the typical woman’s role awaiting at home. Talented singer and dancer, Silvia works night as a showgirl, appearing in various clubs, keeping her aspirations high that she’ll one day leave the stage and become a movie star. Abhors violence; Silvia carries a gun only for protection, and has never found reason to use it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Grant Albert Mason Nicknames (if applicable): none Age: 29 Personality: Surly and overprotective of his sister, Grant looks to other way when her activities cause trouble. Using his position as a newly appointed prohibition agent, he reluctantly accepts bribes and forgoes the law in order to make sure his baby sister has a good time. Internally he struggles to reconcile his own law-breaking by reminding himself that forcing his sister too roughly from her lifestyle would drive a wedge between the family and by being nearby, he can at least keep an eye on her (while making more than his paycheck on the sly). Physical Appearance: Sandy-brown hair Green eyes 5'10 Clothing: Equipment:M1911A1 Pistol, Smith & Wesson Model 10 History: Third son of the Mason family, Grant is closest to his sister in age and often acted as her babysitter. With their elder two siblings inheriting the duties of the family, Grant elected to become an officer of the law after being teased about his rigidness for rules by Silvia. Born and bred in Owensboro, Kentucky, his older siblings and father worked the local distillery before the Volstead Act. Despite going into law enforcement and later accepting a position as a prohibition agent in Peoria, Illinois. Learning of his sister's less than wholesome behavior, Grant tiptoes the loyalty of the law with that of family. Though he does not approve of her actions, coming from Kentucky and having a family involved in the alcohol business prior to prohibition Grant is more willing to stretch the limits of the law.

(Alright! Here I go!) Name: Dr. Michael Hester Nicknames (if applicable): Mister Hester, "Hes", Doctor Hester, Doc Hes Age: 34 Occupation: Speakeasy owner Companions/ Co-workers: Loretta Jones 'Receptionist/Dancer/Hooker: Todd Briggon 'Bus Boy/Therapy Assistant': Personality: Michael Hester, on the surface, seems like the very last person you would expect to discover is actually a criminal. He is a good guy at heart, who just wants to make some money to support himself. He has some small town charm, able to talk his way out of a number Physical Appearance: Clothing: (Gonna borrow this first one from Lianna)Equipment: Owns a shotgun to protect his saloon History: Mister Hester has been bootlegging in Franklin County even before the real criminals showed up. Being a man with only three talents; farming, fixing stuff, and brewing alcohol...Hester was the ideal man to become the owner of a speakeasy, having originally gotten the idea when discovering the practice while visiting the city. He was one of the County's first bootleggers after the passing of the 18th Amendment, and the people like his alcohol so much that selling it has made the humble and not quite rich Mister Michael Hester into a fairly powerful man in the County, as some important people drink in his saloon, which is located in the large basement of his home. Many people go in and out of Mister Hester's home during the day and especially the night. He deals with this strange issue by paying for a forged diploma, which states that he is a trained 'Psychoanalyst', with a room specifically designed to look like one of Sigmund Freud's therapy rooms, complete with the man's writings. Hester has some hired help, including a beautiful blonde woman named Loretta Jones whom he claims works as the receptionist (she is actually a hooker), and an eager young man named Todd Briggon, who works as the Bus Boy and Mister Hester's "therapy assistant". Having made a small fortune selling liquor and moonshine, Mister Hester now has the ability to bribe some officers and officials of the law to keep them from closing him down or arresting him.

Name: Lucas Johnson Nicknames (if applicable): Nil Age: 24 Personality: Lucas is charismatic and charming, he is a bit racist, as his father was bashed by a group of aboriginals. (Which Lucas refers to as Boongas or simply, Blacks.) He knows of the moonshine runners and the speakeasies, but he doesn't drink. He could be recruited into a mob, or even hired by the police, but there's no way he's joining a bunch of hicks to make some moonshine. Physical Appearance: Lucas is 6'3" and weighs 190lbs. Lucas was always a great runner, placing high when he was in school. Clothing: Lucas usually wears a pair of charcoal slacks, with a mint green dress shirt. He doesn't wear a jacket, even in winter. When he needs to wear a suit, Lucas wears his grandfather's suit, which was bestowed unto him at his grandfather's funeral. Equipment: Lucas has a switchblade, which he uses to cut fruit, it has not yet tasted blood, but he is not afraid to use it. History: Lucas was born on the 24th of September, in Sydney Hospital. His parents were Marilyn and Geoff Johnson. He had a normal life as a child, no tragedies, except for his grandfather passing at age 14. When he was young he didn't do much, his uncle sold fruit, and occasionally Lucas went to help, though this he became charismatic and charming, always cracking onto ladies, even if their age was more than double his. Mrs. Matilda Devine and Mrs. Kate Leigh had their feud, but they both didn't use Lucas to their advantage,he also quite enjoyed when they called him names like 'sweetheart.' At age 23, he decided to immigrate into the US of A. Los Angeles was his first destination, but he had to go to Franklin County, where his grandfather's friend Michael White had a farm and an orchid. It was from here he decided to help the old man out, until Michael's grandson Jack was old enough to take hold of the farm for himself. Lucas heard rumors of a gang, and that there were some moonshiners nearby, but he didn't know who they were, and for now, he didn't care. He also quite enjoys gambling, usually playing Texas Hold'em. This charismatic Aussie is now trying to find a group of friends, some associates, and a better job.
