Running Bear's parents were simple scouts, but loved their son dearly. He enjoyed his time as a child, carelessly playing with the other children in the tribe. This carelessness brought about his name. One day, he ventured out from the tribe without a grown up, and he was chased by a Yao Guai. The Yao Guai was eventually killed by the scouts, but Running Bear ran for quite a while. This event earned him his name, Running Bear.

He spent a lot of his teen years training to be a scout like his parents, but his intellect gained the attention of the Chief, the Chief was looking for a successor, as he was getting old. He taught Running Bear all there was to learn about being a Chief, and once he died of old age, Running Bear became Chief, and a great Chief he was.

Running Bear is still the leader he was twenty years ago, and all of the tribe want Running Bear to live over a hundred years! They all have benefited greatly from the caring compassion of Running Bear, who thinks the needs of the Shoshone people before his own.
