Henry grew up with a very sheltered life in the magical land of Cambridge in England. His parents decided to hide the existence of the war from him, in the hopes that he would have a normal life. Henry thoroughly enjoyed life, and when he wasn't studying with his father, he was studying with his mother.
When Henry got older, he started studying on his own, exploring the academic world for things that interested him. It turned out Ancient History, and by way of this Archaeology became his passion. He spent his later childhood and teenage years reading books on the Aztecs and Mayans, and watching centuries-old recordings of long dead explorers carrying Egyptian relics out of a pyramid. He also came across a series of what he assumed to be films based off of real events, called The Marvalous Adventures of Humphrey the Tomb Raider. He became mesmerized by the idea of finding ancient tombs, beating the traps within and coming out triumphant with a great treasure under his arm.
Since his parents never told him anything about life outside of Cambridge, he simply assumed it was as peaceful as his home. Because of this, he was terribly confused when his parents forbade him to go out and search for treasure all across England, when he was 16. He was sure it was because they were worried he didn't know enough. Henry once again threw himself into his research for several more years, learning everything could about Saxons, Celts and the Romans. When Henry was 18 when he approached his with his request to adventure again. Once again, he was denied.
This time, Henry could not understand why his parents had forbade him. Henry became angry, he decided that parents were stupid, why would they forbid from leaving when there was nothing that could hurt him? One night, he stole some food and a pistol from his father, then ran away from home. As soon as he left the borders of Cambridge, he ran upon a battle between the Royalists and there opponents. He was horrified by the the sudden greeting to war. So much so he fainted.
After the battle, he was found by Royalist troops, as taken back to their camp. As soon as he woke, he hungrily questioned the soldiers, gaining as much political and geographical information he could about the state of England. An educated man was rare outside of Oxford, so the Royalsists offored him a chance to join their military. Henry refused, even the knowledge of a civil war didn't stop his desire to search England for great treasure.
Henry spent seventeen years travelling around England, north to south. East to west, he travelled everywhere. In a this time, he never found a single ancient tomb of his childhood. This made him incredibly bitter, a feeling that never quite went away. During his search, he did what he had to do to survive, like any Wastelander.
After a while, Henry suddenly realised that it was not the historical significance that made Henry so hungry for buried treasure, but the riches he would have gotten when he sold the treasures. The bitterness that he developed from constant failure had buried deep inside of him, hand all he desired now was to be very, very rich. He began robbing people of valuables, and then intimidating shop-keepers into letting him sell them al outrageous prices.
About a decade after leaving Cambridge, Henry decided that his name was not appropriate for his proffesion. He took on the name Reaper, and had a number of tattoos done to make himself look more fearsome.
He kelt his Oxford accent, though it's strength waned slightly over time. He also gained a number of slang words and various vocal quirks from all the different areas of England he had visited.
One day, he was travelling along te south coas of England, when he came across a group of people standing in front of a boat. This in itself was not the unusual part. Te unusual part was the boat was in the water, and still floating.
Reaper immediately made himself apparent, and the man greeted him with strange accents, speaking of 'uniting the people' and 'overthrowing the oppressors'. Reaper vaguely remembered a political system called 'commu-something', but he didn't really care. What he did care about was the next thing they said. They claimed they were pirates, and that they were going to America. Reaper had done little research on America on his youth. What he remembered was: It was very big, and before the war it had been very rich.
Reaper supposed that even after 200 years, some of those riches remained. He offered his services to the Captain of the pirates, his mind set on travelling to America, and taking it for everything it was worth.
