Jimmy is quiet and thoughtful, and ironically, a shy extrovert. He enjoys being around people, but does not really open up to them. He can seem gloomy, but is usually pretty optimistic and believes in constant self improvement. He has a strong sense of adventure, and does not like being confined to one space, and knows the chance for a good story when he sees one. He chronicles his tales in a series of short stories, published by the Kings for the entertainment of those in Freeside.
Jimmy was born to a small family in outer Freeside. The family greatly values their heritage, and as such, he was raised speaking French before he could speak English. This was for two reasons- to ensure the language did not die out completely, and to have a way of speaking to each other without being overheard. He was a bright child from an early age, and while he had no chance for education, taught himself through reading books. He grew up on a small farm, and had a pretty calm life until his father joined the NCR when they reached his area. His brother from this point raised him, as his mother had died of cancer at the age of 9. His brother ran a business of printing pamphlets for the NCR using a crude printing press built in the shed. It soon turned from pro government pieces to a weekly opinion paper, with limited readership. Once he was old enough, he also joined the NCR but only served for a limited time, complaining about constant headaches. He hated the service and left as soon as he was able.
During his time in the military, he discovered his talent for writing. He began using his own experiences as inspiration for semi-fictionalized events of his life. Unfortunately for him, because of the state of the world, there was very limited readership. He continued to work with his brother, who soon was arrested for a particularly inflammatory editorial, and could not continue to run the paper. He entrusted it in the hands of Jimmy. But for Jimmy, being cooped up in a little farm house was not what he wanted.
By this time, Freeside was starting to expand, and the only two choices he had to live alone was to take over his family farm, stay in the NCR, or join an independent group. He chose the latter, and joined the rank of the Kings, on the basis that he loves the idea that any man can be their own king, the best that they can be. He was so invested in this idea, that he spent 13 weeks improving upon various virtues that he believed led to moral perfection. Today, he manages the records for the Kings and uses the makeshift printing press to publish series of short stories that are distributed for free in the area.
