"That's her?"
Jon Meadswill stood at one of the windows of his room, the one that overlooked the main courtyard of Snowguard. A dunmer lady was stepping out of a carriage, his to-be wife. Accompanying Jon was the head of the Snowguard Garrison, Mikkel. Mikkel was an old Nord, just stepping over sixty years of age. But that didn't stop him from being the best warrior Jon had seen.
"Indeed it is, my lord."
"Curious...."
"Indeed."
"Mikkel, escort her to the hall."
"Right away, my lord."
Jon walked away from the window, down to meet his lord father. The Lord and Lady of Snowguard would surely want their son to be by their side as they greeted their daughter-in-law.
This castle looked grand, and to think that she'd live in it! Laura felt like such a fool, delaying all this way. She could really do with some rest, but that'd wait until after she met Jon.
"Welcome to Fort Snowguard, my lady. I'm Mikkel, captain of the garrison, I've been sent to escort you to the main hall."
Lauravenya nodded, and followed the aged nord through the second gate into the main hall. She made out 4 figures standing at the end of the hall. The two on either end looked around her age, likely younger. One looked strong, and handsome, while the other looked less of a fine specimen.
The man in the middle spoke first, presumably the Lord of the fort.
"Welcome, welcome, child. It is good to see you've finally arrived."
"It is a beautiful castle, my lord."
Lauravenya looked around the hall, it looked decent, Nordic architecture, fairly bland, but these people seemed welcoming enough to make sure it was lit up nicely.
"I am sorry to say that my wife and I have urgent business to attend to, Jon will show you around."
Lauravenya bowed, and watched them leave, along with the sickly looking Nord boy. Leaving her betrothed behind, he looked quite confident, but really, he was nervous.
"You must be tired. The ceremony isn't till tomorrow, so there is still time to rest. I'll show you to your to-be quarters"
He nervously grabbed ahold of her hand, and showed her to his room.
"I know the decorations aren't to your liking, but we can change that."
Jon indicated to the bear head, and slaughterfish, and the paintings of battle.
"I'll return in about an hour. I believe that we're having venison."
Jon smiled, and left the room.
Jon returned to the room as he promised, and escorted Lauravenya to the hall again. The smell of roast meat and warm ale overpowered her senses as she entered the room, it was truly a feast fit for a king.
Laura sat beside Jon at the table, there were only a few people present. Jon's parents, his brother, Jon himself, Her, Mikkel, and what seemed to be a steward.
They all chatted for a while, but they all seemed to be most interested in Laura. Her past, and her trip here mainly. She said as much as she wanted to, and left with Jon. Tomorrow would be a big day, and they both wanted to be well rested.
When they reached the bedroom, Jon seemed to be preparing to sleep on the floor, but Laura insisted he sleep in the bed.
Jon awoke during the night to screams. He quickly got out of the bed, and grabbed his sword. The next thing he heard was his door opening. He looked in that direction, and saw a hooded man.
"You're meant to be asleep. Doesn't matter, you're dead either way."
Jon lunged at the assassin, sword at the ready. The assassin, however, only had a single dagger, it looked to be of find make, though. Jon easily overpowered the killer, and left him to die. They both left the room, sneaking through the castle, to the kennels. There, they found a large wolf, Bear. Bear was Jon's pet. They untied him, and left the castle, it was still burning as they approached an unknown village.
Modyn Seran walked down his steps, eager to greet the newcomers. It was fairly late at night, but not uncommon.
"Welcome, friends."
Then he noticed the blood.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, physically. Fort Snowguard is burning, I'm Jon Meadswill, this is Lauravenya."
"Come inside."
Modyn let them inside his manor, and let them recuperate through the night.
Modyn was hard at work getting the word out that he need able bodied soldiers, assassins or informants.
