Birthplace: Tuless, a small town built around the Labelle estate near Wayrest, High Rock.
Physical Appearance
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 9 st, 11 lbs
Eye Color: Grey-Blue
Hair Color: Chestnut Brown
Hair Style: Hair is kept long often kept to the back with a simple braid or tied back in a loose ponytail. Occasionally allows hair freely, where it frames her face nicely and hangs low from left to right.
Facial Hair: None.
Skin Color: The light beige of her people's natural skin.
Build: Chloe has a lithe build. Lightly toned arms lead onto smooth shoulders. Her stomach has very little in the way of superfluous fat, granting her the lean appearance of a traveler that is only matched by her lightly toned thighs and legs. Her hips and chest tend to stick out more than would be expected for her lithe build, but they hide well under her robe. The general suppleness of her build ends at her face, a typically rounded Breton face with nondescript ears adorned by a pair of distinctive wide lips and a nose with a slight curve to the nostrils.
Distinguishing Features: Chloe bares few distinguishing features, very few scars adorn her body. In fact the general lack of scar-tissue across her body is quite distinguishing, showing either a lot of care in defending herself or someone doing it for her. Her skin is also the characteristic smoothness of a wealthy-born mage that doesn't do a lot of heavy work outside of the Magicka schools.
Abilities & Equipment
Profession: Independant Mage
Skills: Chloe has a natural talent for and has been trained extensively in the arts of Destruction by the finest tutors her father could afford, however she was also trained in Restoration due to the interferance of her mother and has minor knowledge of almost all the other Schools of Magic, although she rarely practices them.
Magic:
Destruction: Disintegrate Weapon, Fire Manipulation to an Expert level, Frost Manipulation to an Adept level (although has been known to cast an Icy Spear occasionally), Shock Manipulation to an Adept level.
Restoration: Fortification to an Apprentice level, Healing to an Apprentice level, Wards to an Adept level.
Other Schools: Occasional knowledge of a Novice-level spell, including Dispel Resistence, Summon Scamp, Candlelight, Shield, Courage and Fury.
Training: Apart from the Skills taught to her by her Magical tutors, Chloe was taught quite extensively in the written word, bartering, etiquette, Tamrielic history and took a shine to learning about the nature of animals (her Imperial Bestiary was one of her favourite books as a youth). Chloe has also picked up a passing understanding of how to wield a one-handed sword in self defence should her Magicka fail her, but the knowledge isn't extensive. Chloe has also picked up a knowledge of Alchemy through on-the-go experimentation, something she seems to have a raw talent for. Aside from all this relatively academic training, Chloe was also taught how to ride a Horse to quite a good standard. Her training even involved a few brief lessons on mounted combat using a shortsword should it come to that, before her mother had those lessons cancelled.
Other Abilities: Chloe has developed a brilliant natural sense of direction and a nose for trouble in her traveling days. She feels as though her gut feeling doesn't lie if she thinks something is wrong, often called womanly premonition.
Apparel: Chloe left her family's estate with a selection of her favourite garments, from the mundane to the elegant. The first of these pieces is a simple linen dress, dyed a burgundy red, that she believes allows her to play quite the pretty peasant along with her pair of leather boots. Her second outfit consists of a pair of black laced-leather pants, along with a loose-fitting yet fancy green linen shirt. A third outfit exists that is a beautifully embroidered turqoise velvet dress that hugs her figure to make her appear all the young noblewoman she was born to be, kept wrapped safely for special occasions.
Alongside these pieces of clothing is a woolen robe, a dark blue one with a loose hood. The trims are made from Snow Fox fur, exceptionally soft to the touch and warm too. She will wear this robe most of the time, adding one of her black laced-leather pants and green linen shirt underneath it if the weather turns cold. Throughout most provinces and in warmer environments she wears nothing but her linen undergarments under the robe, prefering the freedom of movement they offer compared to her laced-leather pants.
Alongside her outfits, Chloe always wears a golden amulet with a ruby in the center around her neck. This amulet is seemingly inconspicuous, but Magicka swirls deep within it. A gift to her mother's family from a Direnni Master Enchanter, this gem is enchanted to increase the wearer's Magicka reserves by a considerable amount, simultaneously increasing their natural Magicka regeneration to compensate for this fact. Without this ruby amulet, Chloe would be considerably weaker than she is now, half the spells she casts regularly would exhaust her far more severely.
Weaponry: Chloe's weapon is her mind, but for when that fails her she carries two other weapons. One is a dagger crafted from the Orichalcum of her native mountain home, folded to create a dagger that looks similar to any other but with the sharpness and green tint of a typically Orcish weapon. A strong Imperial-style steel shortsword is also in her posession, although she only carries it around when she believes her life will be jeopardised in some way.
Other Equipment: Aside from her apparal and weaponry, Chloe also carries with her several saddlebags. One is locked and enchanted, requiring a high-level Unlock spell to open or someone very skilled in the arts of picking locks, in it is all her life's valuables: a heavy coin purse, an amulet adorned with the emblams of Julianos, Mara and Dibella and several filled Soul Gems to name a few. In one of her other saddle bags she carries potions she has brewed from local herbs, which range from Cure Disease to Restore Magicka, mostly Restore Magicka in fact but she hardly uses them for fear of any side effects her untrained potions may have.
Companions: When Chloe left her family's estate she left riding her favourite Horse from the stables, Avril. Avril is a Bay coloured horse that carries most Chloe's belongings, including her unworn clothing and most of her valuables. Chloe will also keep her shortsword in a sheath on Avril's saddle. Avril is distinguished by her stocky build, one could swear she was sired from a warhorse.
Personal Information
Affiliation: None but morally supports the Empire in its struggles against the Aldmeri Dominion as any right-minded Breton should do.
Religious Belief: Believes in the existence of almost all the Gods, but prays exclusively to the Eight Divines on the rare occassions that she prays, specifically Julianos, Mara and Dibella.
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Relationship Status: Single, seemingly always has been. Focused Mages don't have time for relations and Chloe never really had the chance to explore the female side of her existence.
Personality: Chloe presents herself in a number of ways, all a fine veil over her true personality. Around her mother, strangers and most of her family she will play the part of the doting daughter, prim and proper. She acts as the young noblewoman she was born to be. Around her father and the Mage tutors he hired she will act a little more free-spirited and show her independant thoughts, a shine of her true self, however she maintains a studious and highly focused demeanor around these people as if attempting to prove something to them. It's unknown what emotional damage has been caused by hiding her true personality, but it's almost guaranteed to have an affect on her as she ages further. Around people she enjoys the company of she's quite friendly, she likes to make people smile and enjoys an occasional laugh or a drink.
Alone, Chloe is finally free. She will push at the boundaries of her power, intent on extending her control over Magicka, without seeming too reckless. She will fight ferociously with Magic, although she is still squeemish around gore. But overall, she's intent on pursuing methods to increase her Magical powers... If only to avoid the looming presence of her family, who want nothing more from her than to head the family business in the future and marry a rich, respectable, noble. She constantly runs from the thoughts of taking over the family business, settling down. It's not what she wants to do and she believes it is not what she was born to do, instead saying that her natural aptitude for Magicka means she should follow that path instead. Of course she rarely told her parents such or she wouldn't have been allowed to practice Magic or they wouldn't have paid for her expensive tutors.
History
The Labelle Family:
The Labelle Family is a noble Breton family from the mountains near Wayrest, High Rock. The history of this family extends back to the first era, shortly after the founding of Wayrest as a Kingdom, the Labelle family rose to prominence. Previously this family simply mined the ground or tended to cattle, the only notable family member was one taken on by a Direnni Mage to be his apprentice. But with the rise of Wayrest and the influx of trade to the region, the current head of the family expanded their mining business almost ten-fold within a few years, using risky investment opportunities that just happened to pay off. Since that time, the Labelle family has grown to be one of the largest non-Orcish produces of Orichalcum out of the Wrothgarian Mountains. The family has also extended into mining Iron, Gold and Corundum within their holdings throughout their portion of the Wrothgarian Mountains, hiring only the best Mercenaries to guard their mines and their supply caravans.
The current head of the Labelle business is a direct descendant of the founder, Florian Labelle. He was married through an arranged event to one Alicia Marchand, a Breton from a noble merchent family out of Daggerfall with a close blood-tie to the Direnni clan of Altmer. Florian and Alicia only had one child, Chloe. They chose to only have the one child due to the danger Chloe put her mother in during childbirth, Alicia would've died from blood loss if it wasn't for the intervention of a Priest of Mara.
Chloe Reine Labelle:
This is where Chloe came into the world, bright eyed, screaming at top note and covered in her mothers own blood. The newborn was rushed away from the scene, her mother wasn't allowed to hold the baby until she came out of the Magic indused sleep the next day. When her mother held her, she decided upon the name Chloe Reine Labelle. Her father wasn't present for this naming, he was at Sentinel solidifying a trade deal for Orichalcum with the independant Redguard-led nation of Hammerfell.
When her father returned, he was met by a clean little baby girl with a tuft of brown hair and he instantly took to her. She would be his darling daughter, the child that would take care of the business after he was gone and she would get everything she wanted. As she grew up, she found that she did get everything she wanted. She was presented with extravagant gifts on her birthdays from other noble families attempting to win the favour of her own. When she wanted something pretty or something new to play with, her father would grant it to her.
Around the age of six, she didn't get what she wanted. She wanted a new blue dress she had seen in a shop window while in Wayrest, but her father had gotten her a green one instead. In a fit of selfish, spoiled, rage she expressed her anger be setting the dress on fire. She was shocked, terrified and mentally scarred by this experience for the next year. She no longer wanted things and if she didn't get them she wouldn't strop, afraid she would burn set fire to something more important like the house or her family. Little did she know that behind the scenes that entire year and the next her father had been hard at work investigating the magical talents of his daughter, having her tested without her knowledge by Mages of Wayrest during her regular studies in Literature and Mathematics.
At eight, she was approached by her father and one of these strange robed men. She could sense a power coming from this man, something her father didn't have. She was drawn to it, clinging to the man's side whenever he came around, asking him to tell her stories or come play with her. He always refused, but she felt drawn to him non-the-less. After a few months of this man visiting her father, the man finally agreed to tell the little girl a story. They went outside into the gardens, sat on her favourite bench overlooking the statue of a Unicorn fighting a Minotaur and he told her the story of the God Magnus. She was enthralled by his tale of Magic, something she knew existed but had never knowingly come across. He told her about the Magicka of the world, about the people that can manipulate it. Somewhere within her mind she clicked that all those years ago the burning dress had been her casting a spell! The Mage seemed to know what clicked in her mind, he told her that he knew she was naturally apt at the manipulation of Magicka. The girl didn't really know what that meant, but when he offered to teach her a spell she accepted the offer. They both spent the day near that statue, focusing on a single tiny flower. This light blue wildflower, plucked from the grasses of the garden was the subject of the day's study. The Mage had little trouble focusing the mind of the young girl, this was the single most enthralling exercise she had ever done. While the sun was lowering from the sky and her mother was calling her in to finally come eat some food, Chloe cast her first intentional spell. With a small spark from her palm, Chloe set the flower on fire.
The Mage had congratulated Chloe, taken her inside and left her to eat food while he went to go and talk to Chloe's father. It was weeks until Chloe saw the Mage again, so long that she believed he wouldn't return and that her father had chastised the man for teaching her Magic. Eventually he returned, bringing with him trunks full of clothes and equipment that Chloe could hardly guess at their use. The Mage proceeded into one of the guest bedrooms of the house to unpack his things and Chloe was taken aside by her father. He told her that the Mage would begin training her to use Magic, alongside taking over her current tutoring lessons to teach her Literature, Mathematics and History.
Years passed and Chloe was one of the most studious pre-teens in High Rock. She would wake up early every day, eat a high-energy breakfast and drink a potion prepared for her by the Mage. She would then spend all morning and noon practising Magic, eventually retiring in the afternoon to being taught the other skills she would need as she grew up such as more advanced Literature, Mathematics, History and Natural Biology. The Mage attempted to teach Chloe a bit about all of the Schools of Magic and he succeeded partially, but Chloe took a natural shine to the School of Destruction that the Mage simply couldn't afford to ignore. Her younger teenage years were spent deep in this study too, but she began to recieve regular visits from a Priestess of Mara at the behest of her Mother. The Priestess began to tutor her in Restoration magic, while also teaching her womanly lifeskills. Chloe wasn't so interested in learning from this Priestess, but her Mage tutor instructed her to listen well to what the Priestess had to teach her on Restoration as it would prove one of the most useful skills she could pick up.
Chloe had begun to recieve Riding instructions when she was fourteen, something she enjoyed as a relaxation after hard work studying Magic. She spent a further two years balancing her time between her studies in the Schools of Destruction and Restoration, her academic lessons and the art of horse riding. At the age of seventeen tragedy struck her, the Mage of which she had grown so fond to over the years retired from her father's service. He assured Chloe that it was for his own health, as he had begun to show signs of detereating health over the passed years. He would leave back for the Imperial City and Chloe would get a new tutor, a powerful Destruction Mage from Sentinal. She hated this, at first. She was intent that her Magical studies were to come to an end, but as she trained further under the new tutor, she found herself expanding her understanding of the School of Destruction at an enormous rate. The tutor told her that he had never seen someone as gifted with the Destruction arts as she was and that if he had been her original tutor, she would be an Expert already.
Chloe took his words to heart and spent the next four years putting extra effort into the School of Destruction. Her father had her built a new hall of her own at the back of the gardens, one made of White stone brick where she could practice her more powerful Destruction spells. She would set fire to armoured mannequins, puncture them with ice shards, electrocute the carcasses of pigs to see the damage done. Her father even acquired a mounted combat tutor where she showcased a talent for this too until her mother, fearful that her only daughter was going to become a sword-wielding knight, put a stop to this practice.
At the age of twenty-one Chloe had her first real taste of combat experience. While on a trip with her Father to the city of Evermor, the party they were traveling with was assaulted by a group of Orcish raiders. The Orcs ambushed the group from bushes and the minimal guards were struggling to fight the group off. Chloe rose to the occasion, using her skills in Destruction to light several of the Orcs on fire. She found herself tiring but pushed on, confronting an Orcish Mage amongst the group that began using Shock Magic against her. Chloe was hit, shrieking in unimaginable pain as her body was struck by the lightning. She felt herself weakening, her Magicka pools being drained clean. Remembering her training in Restoration, Chloe created a Ward spell that begun to absorb the Shock magic of the rival Mage. She stood tall, summoning a large chunk of her Magicka to generate an Icey Spear in her hand which she shot at the Orcish Mage. The spear cut through the Orc, pinning him by the chest to a nearby tree. Chloe collapsed, exhausted by the high level spell. She woke up back on the road to Evermor, the guards has turned the tides on the Orcs thanks to Chloe's display of Destruction Magic and after she had bested their Mage the Orcs fled for the hills. The party had little trouble reaching Evermor and her father acquired more guards for the trip home a few days later, although Chloe assured him that she was well rested again.
When she returned, her mother grabbed her in open arms. One of the nicest moments she can remember with her usually too-proper and over-bearing mother. Alicia took her daughter aside to her private study, tears rolled down her cheeks as she presented her daughter with a small jewelry box. In this box was a gold amulet with a bright ruby in the center. Her mother had described to her the passing of this amulet to family before she became a Labelle. The amulet was given to the Marchand family by a Direnni Master Enchanter as an offering for their young daughter who shown much promise in the Magical arts when she was tested at an early age. Alicia went on to explain that the gift was meant for her, as when she was young she shown just as much Magical promise as Chloe did now, only Alicia didn't want to pursue being a Mage. She wanted to live a quiet life. Alicia had finally given up trying to pursuade Chloe away from her birthright and in a fit of tears and embraces told Chloe how proud she was that she defended her father from the Orcish raiders. She said that chloe should have this amulet to keep her Magicka strong should she ever need to use her skills in combat again she could count on its powers to allow her to keep fighting for longer.
At this point, Chloe knew she had grown up. She accepted adulthood and everything it offered. Roughly a year later her Destruction tutor had told her that the best way for her to continue her training would be to leave and explore the world. She should find experience in using her skills in real applications rather than study and training. The Priestess of Mara agreed with him, reluctantly, and told Chloe to always remember the lessons of the School of Restoration in her travels. Chloe has since been preparing for the day that she would leave to explore Tamriel. She has bought a new set of books on the continent of Tamriel and one on Magic itself: the 'Imperial Bestiary', a book titled 'Provinces of the Old Empire' and one titled 'The Arts of Magic'. She has read these books straight through, hopefully preparing her for whatever lies ahead.
A Horse has been prepared for her journey, her favourite: Avril. A smith has been paid by her father to craft her an Orichalcum dagger and Steel sword, weighted to her hand. Clothing has been chosen and provisions set aside. One last gift from her father... and she's ready to be set free.
