Elizabeth Sherwood grew up in California, when the NCR was just starting to get strong. She grew up under the Republic's rule, her father a dedicated soldier, and her mother a field medic. Elizabeth was the youngest of three children, the other two being older brothers. Naturally, she had to learn to fight, lest she be picked on by her siblings to no end. She was educated, along with her brothers, and her parents wanted to continue the family tradition of being of NCR military service, training their children to handle firearms so that they'd be ahead of the game when they went to enlist.
But Elizabeth did not at all want that.
Growing up, Elizabeth had quickly become the problem child. Not in the sense that she was a bully who beat up people or a punk who swore openly at folks, but in the sense that she did not like being told what to do and would come up with lies to get out of doing it. When she was first sent to enlist in the NCR, she stuck her finger down her throat and vomited, and then claimed she had a stomach bug and had to go home. The second time, she said she forgot her pen at home and had to go get it and never came back. The third time, her writing hand had undergone major cramps and she couldn't do the paper work.
The fourth time, her father had had enough and personally dragged Elizabeth to the enlistment center. Her brothers had already enlisted, and were already working to become valuable soldiers, and by god, so was she! Mr. Sherwood would see to it. As they waited in line, Elizabeth excused herself to go to the bathroom...
She never came back...
After crawling out of the window, Elizabeth lied to some officers that she was a new recruit and that she needed a uniform. After getting that, she lied to another set of soldiers and said that she needed to be issued a weapon. She was given a Trail Carbine (because she was good with rifles, she explained to the armory guys) and a 9mm, and was shooed off so that weapons could be given to the rest of the numerous recruits. Amidst it all, Elizabeth then ducked out of then enlistment center, ditching her uniform in a Radiation pit and taking off for the East.
She got to the Mojave Wasteland and wandered the area for awhile, camping in random places for a time. She got a few caps by lying to some travelers and some people in towns like Goodspirngs that she was nursing a child and had no home. Some people offered her a home...only for her to disappear when they began to get suspicious of her tales. After some time, she eventually made her way to Freeside, but she wanted to go to the Strip, hearing it was a paradise. She attempted to get in by lying to the Securitrons at the gate that she had an appointment with Mr. House. It didn't work.
After that, Elizabeth went to Mick & Ralph's to buy some ammo and food with the caps she had got with her false sob stories of pregnancy and dying mother. When she first walked in, Ralph asked if she was Ms. Rubens. Out of habit, Elizabeth said yes, and Ralph told her that her counterfeit passport for the Strip was ready. Elizabeth thanked him and quickly ran out of the store and eagerly thrust the forged document in the face of the Securitrons ho let her in. She later, to her horror, discovered that the NCR had an embassy on the Strip. And the only place she could afford was a room in the Vault. She frequently has the hood of her hoodie up when walking on the Strip.
Elizabeth still occupies the Strip...barely. She manages to scrape by by lying to people incessantly in order to garner caps. This goes from telling sob stories, selling false things (like a box of Chems that is actually full of rocks), or otherwise swindling or fooling people to give her support. She once went around Freeside, pretending to start a new religion, called the Church of the Sun, in which she claimed that the god Apollo, a name she remembered reading in Greek books back when she was educated, was watching over them. She convinced a few people to donate and made a good bit of caps...and then some people recognized her from her earlier lies and she had to hide in the Sewers for three days before sneaking back onto the Strip during the night.
Though a compulsive liar, Elizabeth does have a few friends that she is honest with. To those she is on good terms with, she is known as "Liz" which she likes to be called, cause she thinks it makes her sound cool. She continues to tell her lies, and hopes that she'll get away with it long enough to make a good life.
