The Jabiirid
{Below, list all the major aspects of your civilisation.}
Civilisation Name: The Jabiirid.
Civilisation Type: Survivalist Migratory Flotillas.
U.G.C Standing: Partial Member, no Embassy.
Other Civilisation/Group Associations:
- Civilisation/Group Name: N/A
- Standing with this Group/Civilisation: N/A
{Below, list the other aspects of your Civilisation.}
Civilisation Government: Meritocracy.
Civilisation Overview: The Jabiirid are homeless, originally by circumstance and now by choice. They move about the Galaxy in large fleets, their economy being entirely based on trading for what they can not produce with what they can.
Jabiirid culture is entirely centred upon the continuation of their survival, a large part of which is the maintenance and love of their starships. To have a hand in birthing a new ship is like having a child yourself.
They also share a semi-unified religion, under three Dia the Jabiirid survived their destruction and under three Dia shall they be guided through the stars. Each Dia represents an aspect of survival: Family (Dia Ora), Struggle (Dia Jihar) and Work (Dia Kata). Some see these Dia as ideals or beliefs, while others would have them as Gods.
Each Jabiirid Flotilla is divide into three sects, largely reminiscent of the three Dias and they bare their names though respect: Ora, Jihar and Kata. Ones fleet name goes first, followed by sect, starship, your name and finally son/daughter of your dynasty. An example of this name would be: Followers of Ruhkmar, Ora Sect, Gahala, Didori daughter of Tentri. Most would call this person Didori, or Didori Tentri, but for official purposes her name is far longer.
The three sects all emulate their namesake Dia. Ora are the Soul and Face of the flotilla, where the commerce of the population lives, the food is produced and people live in comfort.
The Kara are the hard workers, the Heart, and they strive to live up to their namesake, technologically advanced factory ships will strip mine entire asteroids and extract useful minerals from any uninhabited planets they pass by. The Kara will also hire themselves to owners of a given star system, as the Jabiirid will not mine another's claim without their permission. In exchange the Kara will either ask for monetary commissions for the Ora to exchange in trade or a cut of what they mine as payment if the Flotilla is in need of resources.
While every ship is built in preparation for the Jihar that comes with living in a galactic community, it is apparent that some should be more suited for this purpose. If the Ora Sect is the Soul and Face, the Kara sect the Heart then the Jihar sect are a Flotilla's arms. Capable of baring a strong shield or a mighty sword. More on those under 'Civilisation Military'.
Civilisation Technologies: The Jabiirid have built their civilisation upon the foundations of alien technology. As such it is entirely unique to the Jabiirid, a stark difference to the other Children of Terra. Sleek and elegant, covered in a thin sheen that gives the vessels a reflective quality in sunlight.
The Jabiirid starships produce thrust from the creation of photons, utilising reactors that work similarly to fission but produce a far higher energy/mass ratio. To counter this, the Jabiirid utilise a rare element known as EEZO that when charged emits a field capable of artificially lowering the mass of matter within the field. This technology has so far been beyond the Jabiirid to understand, but their ability to recreate the large engines of the original Alien ship is marvellous. The resultant photonic thrust is simply huge, but far more expensive to maintain, than the more common Ion thrusters. Due to this, all Jabiirid ships utilise Ion thrusters for quick manoeuvres and their smaller vessels work purely on ionic thrust. The Photon engines give off a remarkable visual display, effectively the engines move by high-energy laser beams that begin white and trail off to purple as they near their maximum wavelength.
Jabiirid ships are made of a lightweight alloy of dozens of metals, folded over and weaved into a lattice. This aids in heat absorption, making the ships quite formidable against energy-based weaponry. This is further aided by the reflective final coating, which redirects some of a directed-energy weapon's power back into the void of space.
The Jabiirid are unique in that they lack a defined short/medium/long range of weapons. Instead Jabiirid weapons are energy-based too, making use of similar high energy output photon weapons. Beams are used for mass destruction, having a 'slice and dice' approach to warfare: they will cut through a hull and bisect a vessel at the point that would cause most damage. These beams are used at all ranges, having a remarkable range but far moe power in close combat. Their anti-fighter arrays are also photon-based and A.I. guided. Personal weaponry is laser-based, with repeating laser blasters or highly destructive 'slicers' that are effectively smaller versions of the starship weapons. Plasma weaponry is relatively new to the Jabiirid, and only used in explosives and extremely long-range ground weaponry or bombardment.
Civilisation Military: Jihar ships are the most technologically advanced of the flotilla, often retiring and being refitted Kara or Ora work as a new line of Jihar ships comes into play. As the Jihar ships are younger, so are their crews. Most young men and women will work as Oxila for at least a few years of their life, often picking up important skills in the process. A small proportion of these Oxila will move on to become Yadeen, the regular military of the Jabiirid.
The Yadeen work aboard the Jahir ships to defend the Jabiirid flotillas in a life-long military career. There are several different types of vessels, all of various makes and models:
Short-range single or double occupant vessels are known as 'Shrikes', fighter-type vessels that act as interceptors or Bombers.
Insertion vessels can hold a dozen Yadeen and are called 'Leera'. Equipped with high-power beams, these vessels will bore into a ship's hull and use a containment field to surround the ship in a bubble that contains atmosphere once it breaches the opponents hull. This has the effect of inserting a craft and simultaneously killing anyone within the vicinity of the landing site. These vessels are also used for landing craft.
Smaller frigate like ships are called 'Dalar', who work to destroy smaller craft in Defense of the larger vessels.
These vessels are called 'Djeemar' and are either 'Tecta Djeemar' or 'Madu Djeemar'. The Tecta are fortress ships, purely defensive and capable of extending their shield to encompass a portion of the fleet. These vessels lie in wait amid the Ora (and to a lesser extent Kara) sects and will spread their shield in a defensive sphere that absorbs incoming long-range missiles. This shield takes time to charge and is more powerful the more energy is put into it, thus powering engines or weapons will lower the shield's defensive capabilities. These ships also act as carriers, holding the majority of the Flotilla's Shrikes.
The Madu Djeemar are purely offensive, being equipped with the strongest laser cutters, plasma torpedos and ship-board shielding that is second only to their Tecta sister class. The Madu will act on an offensive roll, charging quickly into enemy lines where their cutters are more powerful and will easily cut through the enemy vessels. They also act as a diversionary force, while the Ora Sect retreats.
The Kara Sect while not Jihar are capable of using their mining beams as offensives weapons. While weaker than military grade beams, they are still capable of slicing through ships if used correctly. Thus the Kara will often form a defensive line in the retreat of the Ora Sect, this is aided by the fact that most Kara ships are refitted Jihar ships and most Kara crews were Oxila at some point.
Civilisation History: The Jabiirid begin their ascent to the stars with the death of a race. Eons ago their ancestors had been abducted from Terra, long before the original Humans had anything approaching civilization. The ancestors of the Jabiirid were desert nomads, survivalists living on the very edge of their habitable zone. Few noticed a couple of villages going missing - those who did assumed a calamity of some sort and the sands soon reclaimed their land.
But the inhabitants were taken by an Alien species, abducted by a race that had been watching Humanity for years. This species was tall, gaunt and brown-skinned. They had bulbous eyes and tendrils that grew from their face like facial hair. Their interest in Humanity wasn't benevolent, as the race was dying and for all their technology they could not save themselves. So to conserve their population, they required slave manpower and Humans fit the bill perfectly.
At first the Human population was small, as the group was experimented upon and studied like animals. But then they began to force breed, and from there the population grew dramatically until they numbered in the tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands. This was so for eons.
And then they collapsed. By now the Aliens numbered in thousands and they feared reprisal from their Human slaves - as a number of revolts had occurred amongst others and the Humans were put down. So the Aliens begun to cull excess Humans, enforce strict reproduction controls... The Human population followed the Aliens in their decline, until but one ship survived. The final Ark of a dying species and their slaves. The Aliens knew it was over for them and when the final female died, the dozen males simply refused to live.
An uncontrolled descent from orbit would have spelled the end for the Humans. Had the Last Male, in the death throes of disease that was once similar to a common cold, guided the vessel to a relatively-safe crash landing.
Stranded upon a strange world, with no knowledge of how to survive and only the wreckage of a completely alien space ship to call home. The first days were hard, then the Humans discovered edible plants. From there, herbivores and the seeds of civilisation were planted. Years turned to decades and The wreckage became a city for the expanding Human population, who rediscovered agriculture and husbandry. Decades became centuries and the Human population spread across the largely desert planet in pursuit of resources and space. Never did the Jabiirid (as they came to call themselves) wage war upon the surface of their new home, Telkar. For disputes were settled largely peacefully. The Jabiirid came to revere their City-Ship for its support of their survival. It gave them a jumpstart to civilisation and by the time they had spent but two hundred years upon the planet's surface they had claimed a second, a sister planet not unlike the first.
The second planet, Asha, thrived. Trade was formed between the two colonies, and space-flight became a common occurrence as the Jabiirid learnt from the ruin of their ex-captors. The Aliens faded into obscure history as yet more years passed, with no knowledge of their origins at all. A third planet followed and the first war in Jabiirid history came with it.
The third planet, Datar, was a lush green world unlike any the Jabiirid had seen. Colonies sprung up, and the plenty of the world fostered a greed in the Jabiirid where only cooperation once existed. Datar grew to rival the size of the colonies on the other planets combined, and became the jewel in the Jabiirid crown. But conflict etched across its surface as minor wars broke out over claims, the first conflicts in Jabiirid history.
As wars threatened to escalate to a global scale, the discovery of a series of ancient ruins deep within Datar's jungles lead to a series of amazing discoveries about the universe, technologies and sciences.
