Rivet City. One of the most fortified cities in the Capital Wasteland. Rivalled only by the Citadel, but then again, who can stand against the Brotherhood? Rivet City, made from the wreck of an aircraft carrier, was where many called home. One of these people was Ol' Banjo. Banjo had once been a career hunter and scavenger. He made enough caps to live by with for some time, but he still goes out for the memories. And he had been lusting for the cracked earth of D.C.
Banjo's routine remained pretty static. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Gary's Galley. Browse the many stores in the marketplace. Take a leisurely stroll around the ship of an afternoon. Right now, he was just finishing his dinner, and he felt like a stiff drink. The only place you could get anything close to a stiff drink in Rivet City, was the Muddy Rudder. Of course, the liquor was watered down, and it was packed with unsavoury characters, but if you kept to yourself, you should be okay.
Banjo walked from the restaurant, to the stairwell, and into the Rudder. He sat down at the bar, and ordered a whiskey. He contemplated a few things. First, if the luxurious life of Rivet City was for him. He had worked his whole life, and it felt strange. These were the kinds of people he sold his meat and trinkets to, not the kind of person he expected to be. Second, if he should play a game of pool.

They were turning into nothing but dancing shadows and smeared blurs, the people that were coming and going from the Muddy Rudder. Bryne was at the bar, creating a military formation out of the empty bottles of Whiskey at his left elbow. From a third party perspective, he was just another waster either drinking away his problems or simply trying to disconnect himself from the reality that was a kill or hide and survive lifestyle. The main reason why he was drinking so heavily was because he hated coming to Rivet City, but the promise of payment for causing bandits to disappear was to irresistible to his ears.
As Bryne finished off his sixth bottle he added it to the line in front of him, he shook his head as if trying to clear it and then called out "Oy, another bottle of that stuff that makes you tingly!"
For the past two hours he was doing nothing but trying to think about how he was going to accomplish his next job in Rivet City, how he was going to take on and exterminate a Bandit nuisance on the outskirts of the city. He didn't look up from his little collection of bottles at the bar until one of the blurred figures in the bar sat down in the stool next to him and ordered what he was drinking.

"You're having a happy night."
Banjo said this to the patron he sat down next to. It was quite a collection, the bottles he placed like trophies on a mantle. Banjo had learned not to ask why people were drinking so much, but he found a way to word the sentence without causing offence.
"What brings you to Rivet City, friend?"
He had not heard much news of the world outside, and perhaps this newcomer to their city would inform him of the general going-ons of the Wasteland.

Bryne turned his head to the man, and as the blur spoke it seemed to come more into focus to him, revealing facial features and clothing. "Táiam." Bryne shook his head as if trying to clear it and started the complicated process of conversation over again. "Yes I am! Although it's more of a preparation than a good time, they kind of go hand an hand ya know, good times and planning."
The bartender set another bottle in front of him, and after taking a few generous gulps from the bottle he set the bottle down and continued with the answering of questions.
"Money." He moved his right hand to his throat rubbing it as if he was guiding the flow of precious liquid down his wind pipe.
"Money is what brings me all the way out here. Someone can only survive for so long with supplies and eating questionable food away from civilization. Since were asking questions, what brings you to this part of the world?"

Banjo thought the man had drank plenty, but seemed to not care about the alcohol in his system, downing more and more.
"Money is what brings me all the way out here. Someone can only survive for so long with supplies and eating questionable food away from civilization. Since were asking questions, what brings you to this part of the world?"
"Ain't that the truth. I live here."
Banjo was clawing to get out the door for whatever reason. He wanted to adventure the wasteland, take down mutants and raiders once again. The walls of Rivet City were closing in on him.
"Say, are you planning on leaving the city for some time? Or have a job for an old man like myself."

"Say, are you planning on leaving the city for some time? Or have a job for an old man like myself."
Bryne couldn't help but smile slightly at the thought of the job he came for. After taking another gulp from his bottle the room went black. "Ie boyo, there's some nasty little toddlers on the outskirts of these walls that need a good spanking."
The words that poured from his lips had a hint of Irish accent to them as he spoke.
The dull colors of the room and the man in front of him came flooding back into vision as his brain flicked switches back into their rightful places. After shaking his head he continued the conversation where he thought the man he was talking to had left off.
"There is a job since you're asking actually. There's some bandits on the outskirts of the city that have been causing trouble, or so I've heard. You never know till you get out there."
After polishing off the bottle and adding it to his collection, Bryne continued.
"There ought to be more than enough to share out there, you don't happen to know your way around a thing that shoots lead do you?"

"Ie boyo, there's some nasty little toddlers on the outskirts of these walls that need a good spanking."
"Pardon?"
The man started speaking some accent Banjo didn't recognize immediately. It took a while, but it clicked. The same accent as Moriarty, who was Irish, if he remembered correctly. Must've been descended from an irishman.
"There is a job since you're asking actually. There's some bandits on the outskirts of the city that have been causing trouble, or so I've heard. You never know till you get out there."
Banjo nodded, slightly intrigued. He had never been hired for pest control, but he had taken out the lone bandit patrol every so often, so he knew what they were like.
"There ought to be more than enough to share out there, you don't happen to know your way around a thing that shoots lead do you?"
Banjo tapped his rifle.
"I indeed do, sir. Been hunting and scavenging around these parts for thirty odd years now."

Bryne went to take another swig from his bottle, and realizing it was empty he set it back onto the counter. "Well shit. We might as well get a move on shall we?"
As Bryne stood up from the bar, the room kept flickering in and out of blackness as the alcohol began to settle and wash over his brain. He shook his head to fight off the blackouts. He didn't want to wake up somewhere else again. He stood from the bar and stretched out his arms while he arched his back. After a few crackling noises he turned to the stranger with his hand outreached. "Names Bryne, if we are going to be sending rounds flying toward bandits we might as well know what names to yell at each other when we start getting shot at ourselves!"

"Well shit. We might as well get a move on shall we?"
Banjo cocked his head at the man, and upon realizing he was actually serious about doing this, got up with him. Banjo stayed close, as the amount of alcohol this man had consumed was a great deal, and he didn't want him to fall.
"Names Bryne, if we are going to be sending rounds flying toward bandits we might as well know what names to yell at each other when we start getting shot at ourselves!"
"Aye. I'm Banjo. So how many bandits are we talking here?"
Banjo could take on three, maybe four at a distance, Bryne better bring some skills to the table if they were to survive this.

Bryne began walking, looking back at Banjo and making a "follow me" motion with his left hand.
"I'm not quite sure how many bandits there are, but there must be a lot if it was enough for someone to send out a request for removal. I'm sure we will be fine though."
As they continued to walk, the alcohol began to settle in more and more to the point where Bryne began to stumble and sway slightly as he walked. It wasn't until they reached the outside of the city that Bryne stopped walking. The world in front of him slowly faded into black as he stood there swaying.
A few seconds ticked by. He was no longer swaying as he stood there under the cloudy sky. He simply slowly shifted his head to the left, then to the right to loosen up any stubborn joints that he had missed back in the bar. "Oy, you ready there Banjo? Some nasties out there are waitin' on a good slap to the lips." Like before his voice carried a slight foreign accent, and as he began walking out into the wastes with Banjoy, there was absolutely no sign that he was even the slightest bit drunk.

Bryne kept swaying back and forth, clearly drunk. Banjo considered saying that they could do this tomorrow, but perhaps this was time sensitive. Then suddenly, no more swaying, as if he was not even slightly intoxicated.
"Oy, you ready there Banjo? Some nasties out there are waitin' on a good slap to the lips."
And back with the irish accent. Banjo had no idea what was happening to him.
"So Bryne, what do you do for a living?"

The man Banjo was talking to had a smirk flash across his face as he addressed him as Bryne. "Oh our boy Bryne likes to be a gun for hire, a damn good one too if ya ask me. Only problem is the man feels compassion, he'll hesitate, fuckin' eejit has gotten shot because of a pause on the trigger finger."
To pass time during the walk, Dizzy grabbed the 12 inch knife from his right calf and began playing with it in his hands, seemingly effortlessly twirling it around his palms and fingers. "As for what I do, I'm the boogeyman boyo."
After having a good laugh at his own joke he continued on. "So what do ya do for a living yourself? Since we are askin' no holds bar questions it's only fair that I ask too!"

Banjo raised his head, and gave a confused look to Bryne, he had suddenly changed his accent, and was referring to himself in the third person.
"All depends on who he paused on."
Sometimes ruthlessness should be tempered with mercy.
"As for what I do, I'm the boogeyman boyo."
"So what do ya do for a living yourself? Since we are askin' no holds bar questions it's only fair that I ask too!"
"I'm a hunter."
Banjo said with a hint of pride.

"I'm a hunter."
Dizzy looked over to his right as Banjo mentioned what he did for a living.
"A hunter eh? A good profession considering the worlds gone ta shit. So what's the prey great hunter? Critters? Man? Those nasty things with the claws?"
As they continued their trek, the sun was beginning to set, turning the sky into a series of vibrant colors. Taking note of the red in the clouds Dizzy couldn't help but speak his mind on the setting.
"Well be seein' a lot of that red color here soon eh? Hopefully none of it will be ours!" Dizzy laughed as he gave his knife one last twirl before returning it to it's cozy home at his calf.

"Deathclaws? Hell no. I haven't even killed one of those beasts. Usually it's wild dog and molerat. Good money if you know what you're doing."
"Well be seein' a lot of that red color here soon eh? Hopefully none of it will be ours!"
"Hopefully."
Banjo hadn't ever gone after raiders. He'd come across the stray patrol, but never a big group. He hoped Bryne knew what he was doing. Banjo would only be useful overlooking the camp.
