Personality: Krawiec is wisened, experienced and of vast intelligence. These traits make him cynical, dry, pessimistic and depressive. Honour and loyalty are values he takes very seriously, and has demonstrated both of the former in every faction he has fought for. Seeing the horrors of the wasteland over the course of century and a half have made Krawiec dispassionate and colder than he was before; all of his compassion has been drained, and his innocence died even before the Master did. Socially, he seems to be a charismatic person and has no trouble with words, and in fact has shown himself to be a popular figure. Krawiec is also a cunning tactician and strategist, and not just in combat but politically too. Despite his friends among the Steelmen and former members of the Master's Army, he has never felt like he truly belonged to either of them and has a sense of being out of place in his body and his allegiances. Due to his age, his senility shows from time to time, often when he tries to remember something from the past or explain something, but for a mutant of his age and experience his mental state is rather sound.
Morally, he's ambiguous. He'll kill to live, he'll kill for the thrill. The abhorrence he once held to cruelty and sadism have mildly faded, but his innate sense of honour keeps him fairly balanced.
Jacob Krawiec was born around thirty years before the appearance of The Master, and in that time became a proficient paladin in the Brotherhood's ranks. The scribes taught him of culture, history, politics and of scientific progress, and the knights trained him to become a seasoned warrior. When the war with The Master began, Krawiec was heralded as a hero by his peers, wastelanders or Brotherhood, due to his efforts to wipe out the mutant scourge that had infested the redeveloping wastes of the Core Region. However, this couldn't last, and when he began to become a thorn in the Master's side he was targeted, captured and brought to the Mariposa Military Base.
Due to his tenacious resistance, his armour had to be torn from his body and he was thrust into one of the vats without any care whatsoever. His body was able to overcome to changes and his mind nor his physically were penalised in any way once his transformation was complete. Horrified with his appearance and disorientated in knowing he could never return to his brothers, he broke into a fit of rage and had to be contained. After taking down several of the tougher mutants, he was restrained and spoken to by the Lieutenant, who with his wise words convinced him that the Master's plan really was worthwhile and sound.
Once the Unity's greatest enemy, he was now one of it's strongest believers. In the ensuing war that followed, he killed a great many of his formers brothers and myriads of other wastelanders, and became well known in the wastes, being feared from Shady Sands all the way to Junktown. No-one was safe. All of his efforts were in vain, however, as the Master was shortly dispatched by the Vault Dweller's efforts and his legacy of super mutants scattered like dust in the wind thereafter. Having nowhere else to go, Krawiec departed with a group of mutants out of the state of California.
They cut across several states and headed into the Midwestern regions of America after several months of traveling, having reached the state of Montana in the end. When they came across the Rocky Mountains, they took shelter here and sought to make it a permanent home. Krawiec remained relatively quiet with them as a group, only really aiding them when they occasionally attacked wanderers and raiders. Eventually a break in relationships formed, and Krawiec became more involved when this occurred, being a notable figure in the power struggle. This continued for years and things didn't look good...
But then Quinn turned up with two mutant friends and claimed she could turn their motley crew into an advanced civilisation. Krawiec didn't trust her or her two mutant friends at first, seeing as their ulterior motives were not known at this point. However, when they began to unite and grow strong as a community under her leadership, he changed his mind completely and became a devoted member of the Steelmen as they came to be known. He worked as a warrior for her, fighting off the raider groups in the area and also working with Marco during "diplomatic" situations as a trusted soldier if it was warranted, and over the years he has earned Marco's trust and respect, as well as that of all the Steelmen.
