Specs compliment of her skills concerning the repair of her rifle would get a very faint smile out of the girl, a light red tint creeping onto her cheeks. "Thank you, and yeah, I'm ready to go." Was all she would say in reply as she clutched her rifle tightly to her chest. When the short man offered her a piece of the fruit, Yuki would politely decline it, thanking him regardless. While her stomach was quieting down a fair deal, it still felt queasy enough for her to not want to eat anything for a little while, fearing it would just come back up. On top of that, the ordeal had thoroughly ruined her appetite anyways. The teen had just brought up her Pip-Boy and was about to take a look at her map when the woman spoke up again. It seemed she wished to take the lead, Yuki would voice no complaint to this, even with the map data she had, she didn't know the safest routes through the ruins that this woman claimed. Hopefully for all of their sakes she wasn't lying, regardless, if everyone was ready, the girl would follow along with the group, staying at the masked man's side all the while.
The walk was uneventful for a little while, eventually something seemed to grab the woman's attention. Yuki would stop with the group when the lady motioned for them to do so, asking the lot of them if they could 'hear that'. The teen could indeed hear something, but she had no idea what it was. She would merely watch as the woman ascended the small hill before them by herself, getting many yards away before finally cresting it. Whatever she saw must have scared her good, for the lady promptly turned on her heels and rushed back down the hill towards them. A few seconds later, Yuki would see what had chased her off... A radscorpion, a decently sized one too, though this wasn't one of the ones that was almost as big as a car. Yuki had never seen the giant variety, but they sounded really nasty, resistant to gunfire and with pincers big enough to cut you in half almost, and lets not forget a stinger long enough to punch through your chest and right out your back. That was only what she'd heard though, so the young girl wasn't sure how much of it was true and how much was embellishment.
During the confrontation with the creature, Yuki would slip behind Specter, rifle loaded and ready to zap it if need be, though she wouldn't take any shots at it for fear of hitting one of their party. The woman seemed to have it under control anyways, and if she couldn't do it alone, Yuki was positive Specs or the short man would step in to finish it off. When the skittering monster was dead, the woman's comment wouldn't be met with a smile from the teen. Her nerves and mood for humor today was shot, she just wanted to get to Rivet City and lay down for a bit, maybe after eating something if her stomach felt more agreeable by then.

During their trek, Spectres mind was floating in and out of reality as he walked at Yukis side. That was until Kirra told the group to pause. Kirra began to move ahead of the group, and once she reached the crest of a hill she began running back down as a radscorpion came down right behind her.
As Yuki took a step behind him, Spectre let his right hand rest on the grip of his pistol at his hip. He stood there still, acting as a defensive wall just in case Kirra couldn't handle the mutated beast. As the scorpion ate a face full of pellets however, his hand fell to his side, and gave Yuki a reassuring pat on the shoulder. He was never a man of many words, so in the events that unfolded he didn't speak, he just simply observed, taking note of Kirras combat talents.
His gaze shifted from Kirra to the others, simply to see how they would react to the event. He wanted to know who he could count on if things went south badly during their trip.

With everyone in agreement, it was looking to be a pretty normal journey through the wastes. Granted, with a group their size, they were attracting a lot in the way of larger critters, perhaps partially thanks to the inexperienced little girl or just the armor that they all had... or maybe they all just stank. That last one wouldn't have shocked him. Still, it was the nature of the wasteland. To Kirra's comment about it being 'one of those days' he would look over at her with an amused smirk, "It can always get worse." That said though, he agreed that it was a pretty rough day so far as far as luck went. Still, at least they were well-armed enough to handle them.
However, when she called for them to stop, he would grow a little tense, also picking up the distinctive sound of some manner of insect. Personally, he had been thinking ant; not that many rad scorpions got that big. Of course, he was horribly wrong, and when she was nearly grabbed by the thing Murphy would bring his rifle up and try to get a bead on it. Unfortunately, from his position he couldn't do much, and by the time he hustled over to the side to try and flank the beast she'd already put two her shells into the thing and put it down. While he was a little worried during the fight, once the thing dropped he had to admit that it was an impressive display that she'd put on--perhaps a little reckless going ahead of the group, but well done salvaging it. As she pulled her foot out, he reached behind him and pulled out a small rag and passed it to her before they got going. "Paradise indeed," he commented to her calmly, "Still, at least we've got some poison to sell." Of course, as soon as he said that, he looked down at the creature and saw that its stinger was shattered. He paused briefly, blinking thoughtfully before turning back to her and adding, "At least you're alright."
He noticed Yuki hiding behind Spectre, something which he briefly thought peculiar, but then saw the Pipboy and remembered where she was from and how she might view things. Turning to her as Kirra began to walk, he commented to her lightly, "Welcome to the Wastes." With that out of the way, he joined the woman in cresting the ridge, and immediately beheld the strange sort of beauty that was the sight of the ruined city. God, what a vista. It always struck him how oddly beautiful it all was, despite being so deadly and a marker of such suffering. Then again, that could be said of the Wastes in general. As they all came to the top, he'd look over at Kirra and ask quietly, "By the way, you ARE alright, right? Didn't eat a stinger did you?" Was he concerned for her? Possibly, she seemed a good sort and the Wastes needed good people--not to mention that she'd been nice to him and he'd kind of blown her off. Needed to make up for it somehow.

(Skip me, again. Then the rotation after that, and the rotation after that, et cetera. AKA, I'm out; I don't want to hold you lot back from posting, and I'm in a lot of other threads right now so I can't stay in all of them).

((I'd skip me as well. I've got family stuff on for the next 7 days so my posts are going to be fewer and further between during this time. I'll answer Aard's question next rotation, until then, just start making your way into the city i guess. Thanks))

With the immediate threat dealt with, Yuki, AER9 still in hand, would slowly walk over to the dead radscorpion. She'd had to zap a few like it before, they gave her the creeps truth be told, but giant scorpions were certainly more preferable than giant spiders in her opinion. Either way it was dead, and partially mangled to boot, good thing it wasn't one of the really big ones, otherwise things might not have ended so well. After observing (and nudging) the mutated creature's corpse for a few moments longer, Yuki's gaze would shift to the woman. "Are we very far from Rivet City?" The teen would be noticeably pleased if the answer was in the affirmative, she'd had enough danger for one day and wanted to reach the city as soon as possible, and if something decided to try and kill them every so many yards, then the trip would likely take a whole lot longer... Fortunately the group would get moving again pretty quickly, Yuki walking more towards the front with the other woman, occasionally looking at her Pip-boy as they covered ground.

Spectre stayed at the back of the group where he could keep everyone in the party within view, his brown orbs constantly scanning the area as they made their trek toward Rivet City. This group sure was an interesting assembly of people, consisting of those who were still learning what the wastes had to give, and those who had seen to much.
As they walked, the wind began to pick up slightly. It washed over Spectres clothing as light clouds of dirt licked at his worn boots with each step he took. The Sun no longer sat above them overhead, meaning they were getting into the evening. His nose crinkled for a split second as if he seemed irritated. If they couldn't make Rivet City before nightfall, they needed to find shelter. Then again, Spectre was just a guardian, not the one calling the shots.

As they began to crest the ridge and he heard Yuki's question, Murphy would begin calculating how long it would take to get there and whether or not they would be able to reach the city by nightfall. Because he didn't want to stop in the city at all; that place was a big no-go land for him, he wasn't equipped to enter DC and he wanted to spend as little time near there as possible. The possibility of people being above him didn't sit well. Grimacing and stroking his rifle thoughtfully, he eventually turned to Yuki to explain. "It's a bit of a hike. You can see the Jefferson Memorial that way," he said as he pointed into the distance at the monument/purfication plant, "and that's pretty close to Rivet. We might want to find some place to set up camp for the night, unless we want to march for half the night to get there." If he were alone, he would do that, no questions asked. But, looking at the shaken girl, and the potential that Kirra was hurt, made him hesitant to take that decision. Still, at least there would be the river--they would be able to get some food and water before arriving, maybe get themselves some mirelurk meat to sell. Yuki could stand to learn how to handle a mirelurk anyways.

Shorty approached Kirra, offering her a rag. "Paradise indeed, still, at least we've got some poison to sell." They both shared a quick glance at the destroyed husk of a scorpion, both realizing that the venom glands were probably splattered across the nearby ground by now. "At least you're alright." Blushing, Kirra idly scratched the back of her head. "Yeah, sorry about that. It was pretty stupid of me to destroy the stinger." She responded, wiping as much of the ichor as she could off her armor, then passing the rag back. Yuki came out from behind Mask, examining the dead scorpion, as Shorty continued to speak. "By the way, you ARE alright, right? Didn't eat a stinger did you?" Looking herself quickly up and down, Kirra replied. "Y-yeah, i think i'm alright. I don't feel any searing pain anywhere. I mean, i don't think anyone in the wastes is really alright alright, but i'm alright enough to survive." For a moment, she felt like she had actually said something smart, before putting on an awkward smile. "Sorry, i probably sound pretty stupid don't i?" And with that they rejoined the other two.
"Are we very far from Rivet City?" Yuki asked, and after a second look at the city, Kirra answered. "Assuming we don't run into any trouble, we're probably about forty minutes out. Give or take a few. I know a few relatively safe routes, but you always have to be careful in there." "It's a bit of a hike. You can see the Jefferson Memorial that way," Shorty said as he pointed into the distance at the monument/purfication plant, "and that's pretty close to Rivet. We might want to find some place to set up camp for the night, unless we want to march for half the night to get there." Kirra also considered that option, but it would take a lot longer. "It would take at least two hours to go around the Jefferson way. We'd be in open space, so we'd be less likely to be jumped, but we'd definitely have to stop for the night, which would leave us vulnerable." She looked at the city again, speaking once more. "The city is a quicker option, although although while out here we're mainly just going to find wild animals, in there we'll have to watch out for Muties, Raiders and the Talon Company fuckwits."
After a deep sigh, Kirra took a step towards Yuki, lowering herself a bit so she was at eye-level. "So the choice is yours Yuki. We'll all go whichever way you want to, and i promise we'll protect you if things get nasty." When Yuki made her decision, she turned to the others. "Well, you heard the lady, let's get a move on."

Either these people weren't the sharpest tools in the shed, or else they just had an obscene amount of faith in the teenager that made them not mind her making the decisions. Truthfully Yuki was finding the whole thing rather stressful, she'd always handled the constant threat of her own demise fairly well, but she didn't like the thought of one of her decisions resulting in someone elses death. While Yuki was very eager to get to Rivet City as soon as possible, the girl didn't want to risk their safety unnecessarily. Briefly she would turn from the group and walk away a few steps, clearly in deep thought, no doubt weighing the pros and cons of each option. After about a minute, Yuki would eventually turn to face everyone, apparently having come to a decision. "Well... Better safe than sorry. A voice would chime in her head. "I think it would be best to take the long way around, I don't think it would be very good if we took the short way, got held up, and had to make camp anyways." Provided no one objected to this decision, Yuki would fall in line behind whomever decided to lead the way, which ended up being the Kirra woman. As they got to walking, Yuki would sling her rifle over her shoulder before slipping her hands in the pockets of her overalls, her eyes lazily scanning the horizon all the while.
(Apologies for the massive delay, funerals and 60+ hour work weeks have been kicking my ass.)

Murphy waved off the apology about the stinger. Honestly, he didn’t care much about the profit—it would have been a nice bonus, but keeping people breathing was far and away the more important thing. Kirra’s jabbering about being alright but not fully alright in the traditional sense made him smirk and roll his eyes a little, putting his rifle on his shoulder as they went. ”Well, you aren’t wrong,” he responded quietly, looking thoughtfully into the distance, ”So, I don’t think you sound ‘stupid.” He briefly turned to her and gave her a friendly smile before his attention was dragged off by Yuki’s question.
He nodded his approval of Kirra’s assessment of the situation, hoping that they took the long route truthfully. Oh, he wanted nothing more than to kill some Talon Company scum, but he wasn’t about to walk into the proverbial nest in a high-density area unless he had good reason. Now, leaving it up to Yuki might have seemed stupid, but he personally was curious to see if she was sharp enough to handle the responsibility and make the wiser choice. Turned out she did. Smiling, he commented approvingly, “Good call.” Once they were under way, he quietly walked with his rifle out but at rest, uncomfortable slinging it while they were in the open like this. However, as he looked out to what remained of the Potomac, he had a thought and smiled lightly. “If you like,” he said to Yuki, and the others if they were interested, “I can show you how to ‘fish’ for mirelurks. My folks used to do it all the time—real easy if you know how.” Of course, he was unintentionally leaving out the danger of getting eviscerated if you failed, but his town had more or less perfected it, so he wasn’t particularly worried.

After Yuki made the decision to go around the city, Kirra once again found herself in the lead, and once more they were set off. The constant sounds of gunfire and explosions that could be heard this close to the city was starting to die down, reflecting the ever-approaching evening. Occasionally mutated beasts, Raiders and other undesirables could frequently be seen in the distance, but the group made sure to avoid as much conflict as possible. After they had come a fair way, the group took a quick break. As Kirra took out a bottle of Aqua Pura from her backpack, taking a large gulp before returning it to her bag. "Doesn't matter whether or not they get it from a purified part of the river, if you put it in a two hundred year old bottle, it will still taste like ass." She muttered to herself. She didn't really mind the taste, but most of their walk had been in silence, and she was just lacking in anything better to say.
When Shorty chose to speak up, she felt like the world had answered her prayers. “If you like,” he said mainly to Yuki, but the conversation seemed open to anyone interested. “I can show you how to ‘fish’ for Mirelurks. My folks used to do it all the time — real easy if you know how.” The second she heard the word 'Mirelurks', Kirra's expression soured. "Nope. Not happening. Not gonna do it. Have you seen a Mirelurks face? They're all chittery and ugh." She shuddered, the very thought of it making her skin crawl. "If you want to go on a detour to get some lunch, go ahead, but i ain't coming." She stubbornly crossed her arms, a somewhat childish scowl on her face.

Murphy's 'good call' comment made Yuki feel a bit more confident in her decision, and she was clearly thankful for the support as they moved along. The teen would remain silent as the group made it's way to Rivet City, though it wouldn't take long for someone to break the silence that had fallen over the party. The young girl would clearly quite confused by Murphy's words. 'Fishing' for Mirelurks? Was such a thing even possible? While Yuki didn't have the same fear of the aquatic beasts as she did of say Death Claws or Yao Guai, she'd always tried to give them a wide birth when she could. She'd heard bullets weren't very effective against them, except if you shot them in their faces, what she did know was that even lasers had a tough time cutting through their thick carapaces. All this said, Mirelurk meat was one of the tastiest things Yuki had ever eaten, almost delicious enough to warrant trying to hunt the monstrosities, but such a feat would take more courage to pull off than the teen had in her. Unlike Kirra however, Yuki wasn't so quick to outright dismiss the idea, mostly because she'd heard from multiple people whom frequented the Potomac that the clean waters seemed to be poisoning the Mirelurk population that once called it home, not to mention Murphy seemed awfully confident it could be done with little issue. Indeed she'd heard stories of dozens of the armored creatures washing ashore, dead or dying and subsequently easy pickings for passerby's. "I'll go with you if you want." Yuki would go on to say, a bit of pep returning to her tone. Kirra's reaction and general feelings about Mirelurks would actually make the teen giggle a bit, though she couldn't rightly make fun of the older woman for fearing them, everyone had their weaknesses, and Yuki knew she was know different.
