It seemed Yuki's luck had finally run out, and she had no one to blame for her situation besides herself. Originally she'd been planning to hire a (well armed) guide to take her from Megaton down to Rivet City, but after purchasing some map data from another Pip-boy user that detailed the route, Yuki decided she'd just make the journey herself. Big mistake, and one the three raiders she'd run into were happy to capitalize on. Yuki had never killed a man before, plenty of angry wildlife sure, but not another human being. Up until that point she'd managed to either outrun them or sneak by them altogether, but it seemed the day had finally come for that to change. Yuki knew one day sooner or later her hand would be forced, and she'd come to accept that. So when those raiders came calling and it became apparent that she wouldn't be able to escape them, she'd brought her laser rifle up, took aim, and pulled the trigger...
Nothing happened, so Yuki pulled it again, and again, and again, but each time nothing happened. Seeing this made the raiders start to whoop and holler, eager to capitalize on what was fast turning into an easy kill. So the teen did the only other thing she could do, she ran, and boy did she run... Yuki was pretty fast, but she didn't know this part of the land like her pursuers did, any time she thought she'd lost them in the ruins she found herself in, they'd show up again. One of them had to be half giant, for he towered well over 6 feet tall and had to have weighed over 200 pounds. Another was shorter and scrawnier, and the third was a woman about the same size as the scrawny man. It was the big one that would finally grab her, taking hold of one of the straps of her overalls and bringing her to a screeching halt, Yuki dropping her AER9 in the process and screaming.
"What's amatter girly? Don't wanna play with us?" The big man, with a terrifyingly deep voice, would taunt with a laugh as he held the squirming girl firm. Yuki wasn't about to give up however. "LET ME GO!" The teen would scream before smashing her elbow into the man's groin, which his makeshift armor hadn't covered fortunately. He would double over momentarily, releasing his prey whom would dart off again. Unfortunately 2 or 3 strides for her was pretty much just one for him, and he would catch her again. "Why you fucking brat!" He would yell as he took hold of her again. This time however, Yuki's scream would be cut off when his massive paw wrapped itself around her throat. The teens small hands would grab hold of his thick wrist, but her feeble attempts to free herself and breathe again were rather futile.
It seemed this was the end for the poor girl...

He had been tracking these raiders for quite a while now, watching them to see if they were just more parasites sucking the life out of the world. Seeing them chasing a young child. It gave the answer Spectre was looking for, and as the group of four entered the ruins, so did he.
It was the female raider that seemed to be the slowest out of the three, and she did not realize how unfortunate this factor was until Spectre stepped out from behind a wall in the remains of the rotting structures in the area. His left hand tightly found a hold over her mouth as his right hand forced his 12'' knife through her chest into one of her lungs. Her eyes widened as she stared into the tattered makeshift mask, a look of horror flashing across her orbs as her gaze focused on the stained skull face adorned upon it.
Hearing the shrill screams from the little girl they were chasing, Spectre cocked his head to the side as he looked at his victim before releasing his grip on her, leaving her to die the slow death she deserved before taking off running into the direction of the screams.
It did not take long to find the source of the commotion, a rather large man had the girl in his hands while a much more slender one was approaching from behind the two. Deciding it would be bad for his health to take his knife to the giant, Spectre sheathed it back into its home and drew his .45 caliber sidearm. He took aim at the back of the giants head from about 20 meters out and squeezed the trigger. Immediately after he went into a flat out sprint toward the more slender man.
Before the only living raider could process that his roughly 200 pound partner in crimes head had popped like a watermelon, Spectre had his left hand around the back of his neck with his sidearm placed at the side of the raiders skull.
"If you drop the weapon you just might leave here alive."
The way Spectre talked almost sounded like something was missing within him, his words rung with an emptiness as his words dripped in a cold threatening tone. And like an animal obeying a command the raider tossed his weapon off to the side as the body of his large friend finally fell to the floor.
"Good dog..."
With Spectres left hand still on the back of the mans neck, and now that the man was unarmed, Spectre dropped the tip of his barrel from the mans head to the back of the raiders right knee, and pulled the trigger. The mans initial scream could hardly be heard over the gunshot as his right leg gave out.
With the same motion, Spectre re-holstered his sidearm as he threw the screaming bandit to the floor. Why not simply end his life? Because Spectre wanted to know where the rest of his camp was. If these three raiders were a plague, so were their friends.
He took a squat next to the raider laying in the dirt, his brown eyes burrowing into the mans face as he balanced on his toes next to the moaning man.
"So where's your camp friend?" His words were calm and casual as if nothing was taking place.
"Fuck you, you insane piece of shit!"
At the raiders words Spectres knife was back in his hand and found itself in the mans recently shattered kneecap, and to add effect he began twisting it within the wound.
Over the mans screams of pain Spectre yelled out "Wrong answer!"
He pulled the knife out and began wagging the blade around the mans groin area in a teasing fashion. His brown eyes shifted over to the young girl to make sure she was alright, and seeing her up and moving his emotionless gaze went back to the man he was interrogating.
His voice went back to it's calm cold tone again as he began speaking again.
"Let's try that again, this can actually be pretty easy and you can make it out of here alive. Where are the rest of your friends."

Yuki wasn't sure what had just happened, one second she was having the life squeezed out of her, the next there was a gunshot, and then she had fallen backwards onto her bottom and was coughing something fierce as she caught her breath. As her eyes raised to look upon the giant of a man that had just had ahold of her, Yuki's eyes would grow wide when it became inherently obvious why she'd been let go. The towering man had a fresh hole through his head, but the rest of his body took a few seconds to get the message. Slowly the man would fall forwards, and the teen would have to scramble to the side to avoid being squished by his corpse. After shakily getting to her feet, the fear stricken girl would watch the unfolding scene between the scrawny raider and a man wearing some kind of mask.
Yuki wanted to run, to scoop up her laser rifle and take off into the ruins, but fear would keep her where she was, though she would look away as the masked man 'interrogated' his victim. While Yuki was happy to not be in the clutches of the raiders anymore, that didn't mean the masked man had good intentions for her when his business was concluded however. The enemy of your enemy wasn't always your friend in the wastes, Yuki knew that much. All the running prior to being caught had really worn her out, and she was afraid that if she ran again, she may anger the masked man. Best to just face the music here and now. After brushing the dust and dirt from her corduroy overalls, Yuki would go and retrieve her AER9, which was laying close by. If she was lucky, perhaps she could fix whatever was wrong with it before the masked man turned his attention to her, that way she'd have some way of protecting herself, if it would be needed.

The raider produced a blood curling scream as the knife buried itself within his bad knee, and his eyes shot open wide with terror as the large metal weapon began to dance its way around his groin area. "The camp is two miles west of here!" The words spilled out of the raiders mouth as if they couldn't leave fast enough.
Getting what he wanted, Spectre moved his knife from the raiders groin up to the mans neck, and casually slid it across his throat. As the man began gasping for air Spectre wiped the knife off on the raiders own tattered clothing before returning the knife to its sheath on the outside of his left boot.
Spectre placed his hands on the tops of his thighs and pushed up as his legs pushed his body upright. Once standing he then turned to face the girl who was now fumbling with her weapon. He took a few steps away from the dying raider and stared at her without saying a word.
He knew that this young girl would not last long out in the wastes by herself, and he began pacing back and forth slowly as he pondered what to do next. He stopped his pacing and froze as a familiar face flashed across his memory, another girl with brownish hair and braids.
After a solid minute of being lost in memory, his mind came back to reality and his brown eyes shifted back to the panicked young girl standing nearby. Spectre then did what his sister would have wanted him to do, and non-threateningly extended his right hand out toward the seemingly scared girl with his palm facing the sky, as if telling her to come with him.

Yuki had gotten one of the side panels off of her laser rifle and had discovered the cause of the malfunction, a focusing lens had come loose and fallen out of alignment. It was a ludicrously easy fix, one merely had to bring the lens back into place and tighten it's fastenings. However, the weapon wouldn't function until the lens was back in it's proper position, twas a built in safety feature to prevent any serious damage to the weapon, as firing it in it's current state could fry some of the inner electronics or damage the frame of the weapon altogether. Before Yuki could slip her backpack from her shoulders and dig the necessary tools from it to conduct the repairs, she would become acutely aware of something...
The masked man was staring at her, the raider he'd been interrogating dead behind him a couple of feet, a slit clearly visible across his throat. It made Yuki freeze up, her heart feeling like it was in her throat as her brown eyes locked onto his own. The silence would continue as the man began to pace, though fortunately he kept his distance from her, although that did little to reduce the overwhelming sense of dread that was slowly creeping up on her. Suddenly the man would just stop and begin to stare off into space, as if he'd just lost himself in thought or zoned out. He'd remain that way for over a minute, though it felt more like an hour to Yuki.
What happened next she found rather bizarre, the masked man would hold out his hand towards her, his palm turned upwards as if he wanted her to take hold of it. Yuki was suspicious to say the least, not to mention fearful. Sure the raider whose neck he'd sliced open might not have been a good person by any stretch of the word, but he was still a person, and this man had killed him so casually, as if wasn't anything out of the ordinary for him. Despite her fear however, the logical part of her mind kept her somewhat calm. The man was armed, and literally nothing was stopping him from drawing one of his weapons and ending her life, yet his demeanor projected peaceful intentions.
After staring in untrusting silence for a few moments, Yuki would tentatively walk towards the man, closing the relatively short distance between them a fair ways, clutching her laser rifle tightly to her chest as if it were a stuffed animal as she did so. After stopping in front of him, Yuki would regard the still extended hand thoughtfully one last time before slowing reaching out one of her own, she'd hesitate just out of reach, but would get over it fairly quickly and would take hold of his hand. "Umm...T-thanks for saving me mister." The teen would finally manage to stammer out.

His fingers gently closed around her hand, something one would think to be impossible for him to do.
"Umm...T-thanks for saving me mister."
At her words Spectre simply nodded at her and then began to slowly lead the girl back out the way he had entered the area from. Past the two dead raiders, past the recently killed female raider, and out into the open.
The sun was still out, it was probably a little bit into the afternoon as far as he could tell. Spectre had been leading them to the West, and with his hand still gently wrapped around the little girls hand, he finally spoke his first words to her.
"You know, these wastes are a dangerous place to play in all by yourself."
His voice didn't carry the same cold tone as it did back with the raiders, it was calm and serious.
"What would a little child like you be doing out here alone, I know that you weren't a captive by those raiders, because they were not in possession of a small girl a few days ago."

It was something entertaining to examine the things that change about one's train of logic as time went on, often imagined speaking with a younger version of yourself and picturing their reaction. 'One day, you're going to run towards the sounds of gunfire.' 'Perhaps if I was drunk.' 'You're going to wander the wastes like a cowboy with a chip on his shoulder.' 'Well, one of us has a chip on our shoulder.' 'Your life's mission is going to be hunting down mercenaries and raiders, and it will be what you spend about fifty percent of your time doing.' 'Why would I spend all that time looking for fights?' 'One day you're going to watch from the far end of a scope as a man in a ski mask saves a young girl and keep watching like a voyeur.' 'Okay, who are you, and what are you doing in my house?'
Okay, enough of that. Truth be told, Murphy had been heading that direction when he heard the distant screaming, booking it from rock to rubble to car, trying to avoid drawing attention to himself while also heading in that direction. However, apparently his ears weren't ruined yet from gunfire or things were just dead quiet, because he was a pretty good distance away. By the time he could see the figures moving in the distance, he was still way too far away to get a clear shot. Then he heard the gunshot, and immediately he found a rock to hide behind and looked through the scope, expecting to see a small, limp form on the ground and the raiders (he was assuming they were raiders at this point) laughing about the kill. Instead he would be greeted with the sight of one bandit finishing a flop onto the ground while another was clearly bleeding out, the last being held up by another figure and a smaller figure scrambling away. Well, at least the girl was alive.
Still, that didn't mean that the girl hadn't been saved by a different raider or something of that sort, and he wasn't on anyone's trail at the moment save for scuttlebutt talking about some raiders in the area. Murphy would keep heading in that direction, eyes on a small hill with a nice-looking rocks on its top. He wasn't coming as an assailant, he just wanted to be sure that this wasn't some slaver or something of the like. Besides, it wasn't like this was a new shtick--some would be surprised how often they wound up on the end of his scope; what he'd give for some binoculars though. He would still be climbing the hill when the man began speaking with the girl, and once to the top he would still be a solid two hundred yards away without counting the vertical distance.

When the man began to walk, Yuki would move along beside him, her hand still in his. She was actually pretty surprised at how gentle his grip was given his rather scary appearance, though said grip was also fairly firm, clearly he didn't want her to wander off on her own again. Yuki was a bit startled when the man finally spoke, though his words would cause the young girl to frown a bit. "I wasn't 'playing', I was trying to get somewhere. I just ran into a little trouble was all..." A massive understatement considering her young life had almost been snuffed out. When the man continued to speak, referring to Yuki as a 'little child', her frown would deepen. "Hey. I'm not a little kid you know, I'm 16. I was trying to get to Rivet City, I've got the route on my Pip-boy and everything, my laser rifle just messed up, but I can fix it." Really Yuki was used to this though, given her small stature, it was all to common for people to assume she was several years younger than she actually was, much to her annoyance. Such was life however, it wasn't like she could make herself grow another half a foot after all. She hoped they wouldn't back track west to far, despite her near death experience, Yuki still wanted to get to the beached aircraft carrier. "Ummm, do you think you could take me there mister? I've got caps."

Spectre kept walking slowly with the girls hand in his, his boots kicking up small clouds of dirt with each step as they continued their path to the West. His tattered leather and cloth clothing were visibly faded and worn in the current light, as if they were his only pair of clothes that he had been wearing for countless years. That being said, old bullet holes, slash marks, and slight tears in his garments were now visible in the clear light. You would almost look at him as some ghost that wandered the wastes, as if he was some spirit hat refused to cross over until he completed his purpose in this world.
"Well, for a 16 year old, you should know how to at least defend yourself, and from the looks of it you almost lost your life. Maybe wandering off by yourself is not the best choice to make."
He was probably coming off as strong and belittling, but in truth, he saw a lot of his sister in this young girl. Innocent, curious, and knowledgeable for her age. A part of his mind was drawn to her, and it ate at his brain, telling him to guard her like he used to do before with his younger sibling.
"Rivet City. What is in Rivet City? The only thing that surrounds cities are cancerous creatures that prey upon people with value that come and go from their walls."
As the last sentence left Spectres mouth his right eye caught movement in his peripherals out in the distance to their right. Keeping the slow pace they were at, his brown orbs darted rapidly across the terrain. If the shapes he caught were raiders, they would have attacked by now, so he dismissed the movements as some animal. With his eyes shifting back to the direction they were walking, he continued on with his conversation with the girl.
"I can take you to Rivet City, and no payment will be required. But we have to make a stop first. Consider it a learning experience for you, the only rule is you cannot leave my side."
Knowing that the girl had little to know experience with altercations, he intended to take her with him to the raider camp to the West. Even if she was the type that preferred to not take the life of another, there were still things that she needed to learn if she wanted to not die out in the wild.

Murphy had found himself a nice place amongst the rocks to nestle into, and for a time he just watched the proceedings, his scope fixed on the two as he tried to focus his scope. He couldn't quite make out the two's words as they moved, but he could make out some basic facial expressions on the girl, and it was clear that she wasn't happy by any stretch of the word, but she also didn't look scared for her life. Probably just a bit shaken or the stranger was giving her some crap for what just happened. Yeah, he knew what that was like. As for the stranger though, the only thing that really stuck out to him was that baklava, or at least that was what he thought it was from this range. He couldn't see the emblem too well from this range, but if he had to guess it was probably something like a skull or a squid face a la Cthulhu or something else meant to be intimidating.
Before he could do more than register that fact, the man started to turn towards him, a situation to which Murphy promptly ducked behind the rock and waited a bit, straining to hear any sign that they were moving towards him or running away. Nothing prompted him, though at this range that didn't mean a whole lot. Moving cautiously, he crept over to a new position and looked back out at the scene, the man and young girl still walking calmly hand in hand. Well... best case scenario, the guy was a bounty hunter like himself or a well-intentioned merc, in either case the mask was just to keep people from hunting him. Worst case scenario... slaver aiming to slap a collar on her once the sun set. Hmm... Lowering his rifle, he leaned up against the rock and looked towards the sun, then back to the pair as they moved. Well, if it was the latter, then leaving her with the man was a death sentence, or close to it. If it was the former, then even if he didn't take the girl anywhere or they didn't run into trouble, he could always talk to the fellow about that raider group--maybe he heard something from those three to tell him where they went. It would be nice to get some more bounty fingers. Heh, there was another one for the list of things to tell his younger self.
Part of him wanted to go back down the hill and collect some from those corpses there, but... meh, it would take some time, during which he could lose them, and he might get spotted by someone. It was pretty open down there. Besides, they weren't his kills anyways; he always felt weird about taking other people's fingers, so to speak. Once the pair was far enough away that he felt that he could move without issue of being easily seen, he would begin to quietly shadow them, as before always keeping to cover and moving as quickly and quietly as he could. Some might call it stalking, and perhaps it was, but it was better than not knowing the situation for sure. Though, he was also on the look-out for other trouble; that wasn't special, that was just him being his usual paranoid self.

The mans rebuttal concerning her age would effectively shut the young girl up, while she wouldn't admit it, even though she'd been doing alright for herself for the most part thus far, she may as well have been a little kid given how much she knew of the wasteland as a whole, and today had reminded her of just how vulnerable she was. While her technical skill and academic knowledge was extensive, neither would stop a raider from bashing her skull in if given the chance. That being said, Yuki wasn't eager to learn how to bash in a raider's skull in response, something this man was likely good at. "Well... I didn't originally plan on going by myself, things just sorta worked out that way." When the masked man went on to ask what was in Rivet City, Yuki would give him a funny look, accompanied by a smirk. "Well, people for starters. Hopefully I can make a few caps or find some traders there that I can possibly sell stuff I find to. Plus I've never seen an aircraft carrier before, except in books." The following little speech about dangerous people lingering around cities would get a roll of the eyes out of the young girl. "You sound like my parents. Happy to live in the same square mile for their entire lives. Booooooring. There's a whole big world out there to explore. You look like you've seen a bit of it yourself." Yuki would end with a giggle as she quickly took a moment to take in the finer details of his tattered garb.
When he went on to say he'd take her to the city, and free of charge no less, Yuki's eyes would light up and she'd smile brightly. "Thanks mister! I really appreciate it." His terms seemed odd to her, but she wasn't about to complain. Heck, if he demanded she hold his hand the whole way then she still wouldn't have griped any, and Yuki would nod enthusiastically to his requirements. "I won't run off, I promise." With that, Yuki would fall silent, content to walk along in relative peace for a few moments. She'd go ahead and sling her AER9 over her shoulder before sticking her newly freed hand in her overall's pocket, deciding she'd just fix the weapon later when they stopped. "My name is Yuki by the way, what's yours?"

Spectres eyes were scanning the area in front of them, and occasionally to the sides. By now that raider camp should be within the area fairly soon. As Yuki gave her name and asked for his own, Spectres right hand slightly loosened its hold on Yukis. Truth be told he had no idea what his real name was, or if he ever had one.
"The closest thing I have to a name is Spectre. I am far from being a parent Yuki, and you are right that there is an entire world out there to explore. But it is not a world you want to see."
Off in the distance ahead of them, Spectre caught the very faint sound of joyful hollering and frightened screaming. Even after hearing what he assumed were a group of raiders, or hopefully their camp, Spectre still kept a slow casual pace with Yuki.
"If we are going to be traveling together to Rivet City Yuki, you are going to need to learn to defend yourself."
At his last words a gunshot rang off somewhere ahead of them in the near distance, the echo of the shot rolled across the sky and off into the wastes.
"What you will see up ahead might be terrifying, it might be lawless, there could be very hurt people. But you need to focus and remain calm. If you panic, you can make a mistake, and mistakes are a quick way of not being on this Earth any longer. Consider this a learning exercise, and remember what I told you a while back, do not leave my side, if you stay by my you will have nothing to worry about."

Nothing truly of note happened for a little while through the hike. It was good practice and all, but he often had the distinct feeling that he was wasting his time doing this. Then again, it wasn't like he would be in the right if he was able to eavesdrop on them or anything of the like.
Of course, that train of thought would be swiftly derailed when he began to hear the hooting and howling in the distance... and the screaming. Immediately Murphy pointed his scope in the direction of the sound and would be able to see the camp in the distance; if it wasn't raiders then he was the queen of Scottland married to the president of the USA. He lowered his rifle and looked over at the pair, wondering if they were part of the raiders and the girl had just gotten into a disagreement with her comrades, or if Senor Skullface was just tagging her along on a bounty hunting mission. Probably the latter, neither of them looked scrappy enough for raiders, especially the little girl.
Deciding to go ahead and back them up, he would begin moving for a good vantage point. He tried to keep in cover, but he didn't actively attempt to try to keep himself hidden from the pair for the time being--granted he had an eye on them in case they tried something. If they decided to shoot at him, then he'd have to react, but he had his eyes on a fine-looking ruined house not far from the camp which would make a perfect place for him to set up shop. He should arrive before the other two hit the camp, at least assuming they had more than two brain cells to share and didn't go in screaming at the top of their lungs.

When the man released Yuki's hand, it would slip into the other pocket of her overalls as they continued to walk. The weird look she'd given him just a few moments ago would quickly return when he went on to introduce himself as 'Spectre', a bizarre thing to call oneself in her opinion, sounded a bit silly to her personally but Yuki wouldn't say that out loud to him. "Spectre huh? That's an...interesting name." The teen would reply, choosing the word carefully, last thing she wanted to do was upset him and make him change his mind and not take her to Rivet City after all. Before she could say anything more however, the hollering and screams would reach her ears, making her stop dead in her tracks as a look of apprehension formed on her face. "Uhh, m-maybe we shouldn't go this way... Defending yourself is all well and good but I'm not looking for a fight, you shouldn't either."
The following gunshot would make the young girl jump a bit, apprehension giving way to legitimate fear of what he was planning to do. He really wasn't going to go pick a fight with those people was he? With her tagging along no less? Yuki found herself wondering if it had been such a good idea to come with this man, while she was grateful to him for saving her life and all, she didn't want to put herself back in the line of fire all over again if she could help it. "Nothing to worry about? How can you be so sure of that? What will stop them from killing you and then coming after me? Why are you looking for trouble?" It was clear that Yuki didn't want to move until her questions were answered, and even then she may have not wanted too.

The masked man stopped with Yuki and took a knee at her side, staring straight into her eyes with his own.
"Those raiders down there will do unspeakable things to other human beings as long as they are alive. If their hearts stop beating here and now, they will not have a chance to inflict pain and suffering on others."
Spectre rested his elbows on his knees in his crouch, and folded his hands over with his palms up toward the sky.
"By hunting for the cancer that infects this world and by removing it from her body, a little girl that could be taken tomorrow by these raiders gets to live without being put through the torture these corrupt hearts would cause. I've been watching this group for a while now. They only send out scavenging parties in groups of two or three, meaning it's not a very large camp. At the most there are probably only six of them down there."
Spectre then pushed up with his legs and stood back up, once again extending his hand out to Yuki.
"This is not the first time I have looked over someone Yuki, they will not take you and you will not be harmed."
"You need to trust me."
