It had been three standard galactic months since the Rebellion's titanic push was thwarted and the Galactic Federation has begun rebuilding after the devastation left in the fleet's wake. With the Rebel Flagship destroyed, the Federation's fleet has utterly thwarted their enemy and while they aren't quite defeated, they've begun a severe tactical withdrawal to the realms that they are considered allies in. Of course, that leaves plenty of damage. The Engi, Zoltan, and Federation-aligned human settlements suffered terribly at the hands of the Rebellion's soldiers and between the need for ships to run reconstruction duties and for those to keep the pressure on the rebels themselves, few are left to patrol the home sectors or examine the unexplored borders. Thus, a slew of new crews have been recruited, both naval and freelance, and uncountable vessels have been ordered from the shipyards. To rectify this, the brand new Osprey-class destroyer has been commissioned. This craft is a small, dense, and heavily armored craft intended to function as a spiritual successor to the old Kestrel-class cruisers... and it's certainly no coincidence that the ship is also incredibly cheap. Already ten Osprey's have been launched, and when you walk the shipyards you can see another couple dozen well on their way. Yesterday, you were brought in to meet with an officer: your time has come, you are to be stationed aboard your new ship. DD-921 Horizon is brand new;even as you are shown the craft, you notice that the paint hasn't even dried, she's armed with a Second Tier Pulse Laser and an Artemis Missile Launcher as well as a Second Tier Shields and a wildly powerful set of engines. You were told to put your affairs in order, send letters home to your loved ones, advised to write a will in case of the worst, and given your orders: you are to patrol the regions hit by the Rebellion and handle affairs--long term issues are to be handed off to other crews, but emergencies are to be handled at your discretion. Above all, however, you are to remain mobile--they need patrol ships, and there aren't nearly enough to go around. Today, you will meet your crew, and you are to set sail. Prepare yourselves, for even with the Rebellion stifled, there is still a great deal of danger in the galaxy.
In regards to characters, when introducing them, show an image or go into detail as to their appearance, but otherwise we aren't going to bother much with regards to actual Bios. Keep it in your head and perhaps right your own private history, but these are to be discovered by the crew. Only races applicable in the FTL universe apply, no original creations in that regard. When you start the RP, you are to be headed via shuttle to the Horizon and to meet your fellow crew. Please clarify what your character is good at, by the way. This group will be open to join until the Horizon launches, but after that getting new characters in will need to be worked into the plot; finding them in some manner of situation.
