Personality: McDaniels is one of the less hardline members of the Enclave, but is adamant in his belief that they're the wastelands best hope. As a leader, he's coordinated and meticulous, rarely missing any opportunity to gain the upper hand in battle. As a person, he can come across as quiet and introverted, though when he's familiar or comfortable with the person he's speaking to he's more sociable albeit sarcastic. Unlike his peers and higher-ups, he's less xenophobic to the outside world and only really has hatred for raiders, mutants and ghouls, but this is rather open-minded by Enclave standards. McDaniels enjoys the kinship his men provide, and treats them as equals as long as it doesn't interfere with how his job description dictates he must act.
Trevor McDaniels was born in Raven Rock during the early days of the Enclave's exodus to the east, both of his parents being soldiers in the Enclave's ranks. Like all children in the Enclave, he was brainwashed early on and, at least in his youth, truly believed in the propaganda and signed up for the Enclave's military immediately. Like everyone else, he was taught how to use Power Armour and a plasma rifle; assimilated into their ranks as a grunt. His first missions in the field, however, didn't require the use of either of the latter equipment. The tasks he were given included him scouting the wastes for civilisation, or as the Enclave put it: "the lack of civilisation". Reports were sent back to Raven Rock and it's secrecy was preserved, the inhabitants of the various wasteland towns blissfully unaware of the Enclave's presence in their very backyard.
These missions changed his view on the Enclave, however. The people he encountered in the wasteland were... normal; just trying to get by in the same world he was. Their obvious lack of "civilised behavior" was present, but their humanities were no different than his. The situations with the mutants, the ghouls, the Brotherhood and the raiders he could agree on, but the humans? They were normal. The zeal he once held for the wastelanders was gone, as was his rapt enthusiasm for the Enclave's ideology. Nonetheless, his work granted him the rank of Sergeant after many missions and he was in command of various espionage teams throughout the wastes. Eventually, his missions became more combat-oriented and he was sent in with teams to take out groups of raiders that posed a threat to the secrecy of Raven Rock (and to the reclamation of the once great United States of course!). His efforts earned him the rank of Staff Sergeant, giving the Enclave another able commander for when the inevitable war would come...
Soon enough, the assault on the purifier came along and McDaniels and his crew were some of the men sent to oversee Autumn's hijacking of Project Purity. Despite their efforts, Autumn was comatosed after being poisoned and the purifier was temporarily lost. Back at base, he was thoroughly scolded by Autumn for letting the Lone Wanderer and the team of workers escape, but Autumn's disdain for him would be short-lived. When the Brotherhood launched their offensive with Liberty Prime against McDaniels, Autumn and the men stationed at the Jefferson Memorial, McDaniels argued for a tactical retreat; he knew Prime would be unstoppable as soon as he heard of it's power over the radio. Autumn overrided him and told him to stay put, but as Prime drew nearer he disobeyed Autumn and took any like-minded men from the purifier and abandoned his position.
Before his desertion could be reported in, Autumn was killed and the remaining men suffered the same fate. With Raven Rock obliterated, McDaniels retreated to Adams Airforce Base in D.C., being part of the crumbling remains of the Enclave that were stationed there for the few weeks up until the Lone Wanderer's awakening. The mobile base crawler was soon destroyed and the Enclave mobilised their escape in Vertibirds to a Staten Island Bunker beneath an old pre-war project warehouse. McDaniels and his team were now part of a larger Enclave remnants group, and their first task was to clear out the feral ghouls inhabiting their new home. Once the extermination of the ghoul pests was complete, McDaniels was tasked with scouting the island and spreading the Enclave's presence on it while the base was fortified and filled. Due to the vacuum of ranks left unfilled due to their collapse, McDaniels was given the role of acting Gunnery Sergeant to fill the void that had been left when AAB had been abandoned and the Enclave's forces destroyed. Years later, he's one of the best assets the Staten Island Enclave have albeit also a cause of some of Major Wilson's headaches..
