Headquarters: Maverick Squadron is based on the Hakawa Islands of the ocean world of Dac. The Island chain has been fortified by a small Republic garrison, and a team of Jedi for meditation purposes.

It is also frequently used as a vacation spot for Republic forces.

Alderaanian Wraith (Corellian Corvette modified to hold star fighters, Farstar class). The Alderaanian Wraith is a 'home away from home' for many of the Mavericks, primarily outfitted with two turbo laser turrets and four laser cannons.

Faction History

"Right folks. I don't need to explain to you why you're here, you all know why you've been selected for Maverick Squadron. You're some of the most promising individuals that haven't been swooped up by other elite Squadrons already. You hail from worlds large and small, prominent and not so prominent. Some of you probably didn't even speak Basic before you went to the Republics Starfighter Academy. But that doesn't matter. What does matter, is not why -you're- here, but why -we're- here. Why this squadron exists. So sit down Pilots for a little history lesson..."

Maverick Squadron was formed in 25 ABY to fit the Republics growing demand for elite fighter squadrons to act in numerous roles, with the capabilities to fill those roles. Covert Operations against the Empire without support? Check. Escort duty of dangerous cargo that cannot fall into the Empires grabbing hands? Check. Fight against impossible odds and attempt to score a victory? Check. Suicide missions? Check.

The Squadron is rooted in the legacy of the venerable Rogue Squadron, the men and women who blew up the Death Stars, and fought the Empire tooth and nail at Hoth. A majority of the personnel of the Squadron, while naturally talented, lack the experience that other forces have.

The Squadron Leader, Commander Ea'rl Vesil, on the other hand, is the complete opposite of his charges. A hero of the Republic, the aging pilot has been fighting for the freedom of the Galaxy and all its peoples for twenty odd years, having joined the rebel cause sometime after the battle of Hoth. He flew with the fleet during the Ackbar Campaign, downing over twenty Imperial TIE's during the course of the campaign. He was there, flying through the city towers of Coruscant as the city planet burned from a year of fighting. He was there when the Empire finally fled from it, and with the fleet he hounded them across the stars until they were driven back away from the Capital of the New Age.

When the call went out for another elite squadron to honor the memory of the fallen Rogues, Ea'rl was a natural candidate to lead it. He was tasked with finding the best pilots he could, and then weeding them out until only the most promising remained to fly for the Republic. Then, he would have to train them to think outside of the box, train them how to act as a team, not just talented individuals. Turn them into a family that would live, breathe, eat, fight and fly together.

And then, he'd have to let them be torn to pieces tearing the rotting remnants of the old Empire apart.

He gathered his recruits, and upon selecting the best of them, took them to the ocean world of Dac for training on the Hakawa islands. The Republic assigned a modified Corellian Corvette, the Alderaanian Wraith, to them. The Captain of the ship was a good friend of Vesil's, an Alderaanian smuggler who had lost everything when the Death Star first fired its laser. They established their outpost on Hakawa, and there they started their training to join the war.

The Galaxy needed new heroes. The Republic was no exception.
