The purpose of this guide is give our users a general idea of the terrain and environments of Post Apocalyptica, to provide an easier description of areas in character, and to paint a more solid mental image of the area the characters are traversing. This of course is made obvious by most of the video games, but for the untraveled areas, or the site-sanctioned additions, this should help you all out a bit.
Below is a general overview of the major faction territory lines across North America. Note that this map includes the locations and major factions from the User Added Areas.

East Coast:
Known locations in the East Coast are: - Broken Banks, possibly the Fallout equivalent of the Outer Banks in North and South Carolina.
- Capital Wasteland.
- Adams Air Force Base, now in tattered ruins. Thanks Wanderer.
- Commonwealth, what is left of the pre-war American state of Massachusetts. The Institute, a place of great scientific discovery so vast it can create delicate Artificially Intelligent Androids that easily pass for Humans.
- Point Lookout, Maryland. An example of the common coastal swamps that extend far further than their pre-war swamp starting locations.
- The Erie Stretch, a region located along the banks of Lake Erie.
- Great Lanta, post-war wasteland of pre-war Atlanta.
- The Abbey of the Road, a Christian hidden monastery. Possibly near Detroit, Michigan.
- The Pitt, a slaver haven. The Industrialized remains of Pittsburgh centralized around its steel yards. Highly irradiated, although cured of the Troglodyte Degeneration Contagion.
Possible post-war Geography of the East Coast states: - Florida: A vast irradiated swamp land spread after the Great War, mutant crocs abound!
- Georgia: Post-war Georgia would be as extreme in weather as it can be now, only more so. Tornadoes, irradiated storms, droughts. All these things and more.
- North and South Carolina: Mostly agriculture, so I'd expect little bombs dropped on the states. Although the capitals would have surely been destroyed.
- West Virginia and Virginia: Probably much like D.C, a true wasteland.
- D.C: A wasteland in its entirety.
- New Jersey and Delaware: Probably like the Capital Wastes northern border, burnt out forests, hills, mountains, open plains.
- Maryland: From what we gather from Point Lookout, Maryland is an irradiated swampland. Much like what I expect Florida to be.
- Pennsylvania: Famous for its natural resources, most likely a civilian target for bombing. Probably wasteland-ed to a degree like California.
- New York: Defiantly destroyed to the same degree as Washington D.C... With the amount of skyscrapers in the city I'd expect it to be literally a pile of rubble above ground, with nothing but the collapsing subway tunnels left. The state itself, consider it as far a wasteland as the area surrounding downtown Washington.
- Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire: All of these probably resemble the same level of destruction as California, only with more burnt out trees and hills.
- Rhode Island: Probably an irradiated swamp, partially retaken by the ocean. Picture Point Lookout, only with less backwater inhabitants and more villages.

West Coast: Known locations in the West Coast are: - The Hub: Trading center of the Core Regions.
- New California Republic: The largest of the West coast factions, a huge republic of states for Humans, Ghouls and even Super Mutants. Its expanding has ceased in the north, and Vault City is seen as an independent state. Finally.
- Vault City: One of the technological marvels of the Wastes, the Humans of Vault City have lost their xenophobia towards the Ghouls of Gecko, sharing and laboring with each other to keep the power running.
- New Reno: A large casino funded settlement, and is ran by the powerful son of the Chosen One, although he doesn't know it.
- San Francisco: A botanical garden, the mutant plant is spread over much of San Fransisco, however it doesn't grow away from its natural soil, although the Shi do try.
- Modoc: A major farming community.
- The Den: Slaver capital of the West Coast.
- Redding: The mining town of Redding joined the NCR. The Morningstar and Kokoweef mines being important assets to the NCR.
- Broken Hills: A ghost town, scoured off the map. The uranium ran out they say, then the population left.
- Vault 15: Once 'The Squat' it is now a self-sufficient community and strong outpost for the NCR in the north.
- Vault 13: A thriving community of Intelligent peaceful Deathclaws that are slowly expanding their territory.
- New Arrayo: A settlement founded by Tribals and ex-Vault dwellers. It thrives in the wastes.
- LA Boneyard: The major religious backbone of the NCR, the boneyard being ruled by the Followers of the Apocalypse.
- Junktown: A fair place, part of the NCR.
- Maxson: A town situated around the Lost Hills bunker, protected by the Brotherhood of Steel.
- Lost Hills Bunker: The headquarters of the Brotherhood of Steel, a major research and development center.
- Dayglow: A town founded by Ghouls and Humans.
- New Vegas: A region controlled by NCR. The Strip itself is controlled by Mr. House, NCR have forward bases in the war against the Legion in McCarren Airport and Hoover Dam.
- Hoover Dam: The dam still produces electricity for the Wastes, it is currently operated by NCR with aid from the Brotherhood of Steel.
Possible post-war Geography of the West Coast states: From what we have seen of West Coast geography, its a desert. Inhospitable. With pockets of civilization existing in the ruins of the cities. Nevada, Oregon, California, Arizona. All have been shown as inhospitable desert wastelands.

Mid Regions: Known locations in the Mid Regions are: - St. Louis: controlled by a splinter faction of the Brotherhood of Steel.
- Quincy: A town with a population of Humans and Ghouls.
- Kansas City: Inhabited by nuclear-bomb worshiping Ghouls.
- Junction City.
- Foutre Cricible: A settlement built in the centre island of New Orleans.
- Coldwater: Famous for its casino.
- Great Bend: A major pre-war industrial center.
Possible post-war Geography of the Mid Regions states: The states that form majority of the mid regions: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. These states form one huge area and it is said 'that there are miles wide twisters in the Mid regions and that the place is one big radioactive dust-bowl. It is safe to assume the entire of pre-war United States' central states were turned into an inhospitable, radioactive dust-bowl. New Mexico and Texas have both been shown as inhospitable wastelands on par with California. Minus the civilization.

Canada: Known locations in the Canada are: - Ronto: Ronto refers to the Canadian city of Toronto, which would have been under the control of the United States after the annexation of Canada in 2076, just prior to the Great War. The context in which the region is mentioned implies that by 2277, Ronto had established a reputation as a significant military power over the years.
Possible post-war Geography of Canada: - Canada... Dear old Canada, annexed by the US, its population killed or forced to accept the new government. I think its safe to assume Canada was spared the majority of assaults in Nuclear war, as a lot of Canada is open land. The major Canadian cities would have been bombed like their American equivalents. No Vaults were reported to have existed in Canada at the time of the Great War. So any populations either migrated from America, or somehow survived the nuclear fallout that would've burnt the Canadian plains, forests and mountains. It is highly possible populations survived the war in the wild regions. Mutant moose anyone? Or Mutant walrus, fun for the whole family.
- I'd expect a lot of forests to survive in the far wild locations, away from civilization. Although radioactive Fallout would've kill the native species and mutated what was left. The plant life itself would've probably mutated as well. Several people who have originated from Canada were in Fallout 1 and 2, and Ronto is a major military power. So its safe to assume the cities of Canada are being resettled at a rate much like the US'.
- The open plains of Canada became irradiated endless snow plains. The north remained very inhospitable, mutant creatures and irradiated snow fall being constant dangers.
