History
Born to a Sith Lord, and an unknown mother, Alara was taken in by her father, the Sith Lord Argilax, in the early days of the Sith Empire. Alara's training was very different than other Sith younglings, as she was kept out of the Korriban Academy, Alara being personally trained from birth by Lord Argilax. Argilax was strict, but definitely not mean, by Sith standards anyway. She adapted to the Sith training regime very quickly, having not known life outside of the Sith.
For most of Alara's younger years, she was a glorified intern. Argilax used her as a device for fetching people and items. Argilax would often leave Alara on his ship while he and his small crew would search for ancient Sith artefacts left on long forgotten planets. Most of what he found was junk, though his luckiest find, for both Argilax and Alara, was a Sith Holocron. It was possessed by a Darth that Alara never knew the name of, though she did know that it was from the Great Galactic War.
Alara didn't know what her father learned from the holocron, only that a year after it's procurement, the Sith Kingdom lost a Darth. And gained another. Darth Argilax had a very nice ring to it. With her father's newfound title, came more responsibility for Alara, which she was quite glad to receive. She was now accompanying him wherever he went. The ship's crew would have said that she was like a lost puppy, following Argilax and his instructions to the letter.
Alara was matched when Argilax chose another apprentice. An attack dog, once trained. He was young, strong, but not the brightest disciple. You could easily tell that he was expendable, but he was all but blind to the fact. He was a few years older than Alara, 13, where she was only a mere girl of 10. In the sparring matches, it was surprisingly matched. The boy had the strength, but she had everything else. Maneuverability, cunning, and the training. The boy would throw his weight around, but she would simply dodge and attack vulnerable points. Over the years, the matches tilted more in the boy's favor, as he learned to fight better.
Over the years, Argilax built a following. It was only small, but they were fiercely loyal, for Sith. Argilax knew that they would attempt to assassinate him one day, and so he strived to be more powerful than they were, at all times. That stretched into protecting Alara, his one weakness. Alara was his prodigy, his heir. He loved her, in his own way. Of course, nobody knew that, by the way she was trained. They all saw Argilax as her tutor more than anything. They had never heard 'father' come out of Alara's mouth.
Alara was honed as a weapon of the Sith in her teens. She was exceptional, she turned out a lot better than Argilax could imagine. Alara accomplished her first kill at 17. After all these years, the attack dog had tried to bite the hand that fed it. When Argilax was meditating, he attempted to walk in, and kill Argilax. He wouldn't have succeeded anyway, Argilax had felt his presence as soon as he entered the room. But he also felt Alara, whom was trailing the attack dog. To throw him off guard, Argilax stood, and Alara drove a knife into his spine.
That was the day she earned her lightsaber. It was simple, yet elegant, like all sabers.
