Because of her faith in others and her distaste for their mistakes, Fal is both overly idealistic and too selfless for her own good. Because of her passions, she is often too sensitive as well, taking insult at the smallest slights and worrying what others think of her. History
Heritage
Falria Artemii was born the only child to Darin and Tyla Artemii, her ties to the Jedi Order beginning long before her birth. Her father Darin came from a much larger family, with six siblings of his own, taken from his family to train as a Jedi before he could come to know his family well. Darin's past was uneventful in comparison to other Jedi, completing his time as a youngling, soon becoming a Padawan and helping his master with his missions as Darin trained.
As the Clone Wars began, Darin continued to serve under his master, fate bringing the two into the underworld of Coruscant on the very day that Order 66 was initiated. Their goal had been to root out a smuggler said to be ferrying supplies to the confederacy under orders of one of the Senators, the pursuit taking them down below the Uscru Entertainment District. The message came through clear and strong as the Jedi above were slaughtered, and Darin's master quickly led them into hiding. At his orders, the two abandoned their robes and lightsabers, losing themselves in the billions of people below the upper levels while Darin's master sought out a way to escape the planet.
Time brought relief, and within a few days, his master led them towards a ship he had arranged, but their escape was not meant to be. As they reached their place on the ventilation shaft, they were ambushed by mercenaries who planned to turn them in. Though Padawan and Master escaped, it was not without a price. Without their lightsabers, they had been hopelessly outmatched, and Darin's master had received grievous wounds. Only a few hours after their escape, Darin found himself alone in the underworld, burning his master's body with respect and moving into the lower levels.
Not daring to risk alerting another to his time as a Jedi, Darin used his training to investigate what was to be his new home. Level 1294, and the levels above and below were fully controlled by a gang, giving some relative safety as one of the more civilized levels. With order kept in check by the armed mobsters, Darin made his home here, taking up residence in one of the abandoned rooms of the level. With haste, he found a way to make a living for himself, fearful of starving and using credits none had seen him earn lest the gang become suspicious. With the gang control of the levels, they controlled the businesses as well, and Darin found himself working for them in a bar – one of a chain of bars used to store weapon stockpiles on a regular basis. Every week the stockpile would be moved to a different bar, to avoid the Imperial Sector Police attempting to confiscate it if found.
As the years continued, Darin found himself attached to one of the mercenaries employed to protect the moving caches, the two spending most of their nights at the bar talking while she was on guard duty. Eventually the nights at the bar led to nights at each other's homes, and the two became far more then friends. Tyla had been born in the underworld and lived her entire life on these levels, always dreaming of something more then the hand she had been dealt. Cutting all ties with his heritage, Darin abandoned his Jedi vows and married Tyla, swearing to one day give her a life better than the one they both had.
Within a few years, Tyla came to be with child, giving birth to a healthy baby girl in the year of (3 ABY). The two raised their child carefully, Darin finally looking for ways to escape the planet in secret. Even between the two of them, their jobs barely afforded to keep the family fed, certainly not offering enough for the two to book passage away from the planet. With the rebellion in full swing, Darin considered turning to his old ways to bring them a better life, but dared not risk discovery.
As the Emperor fell, Darin and his wife eagerly awaited the liberation of Coruscant, Darin finely confessing his past to his love. For a time, Tyla was angered with him for endangering her and more importantly their daughter, but as the New Republic pushed forward, all was forgiven. In 6 ABY, as Coruscant was liberated, Darin, Tyla, and their daughter Falria finally escaped to the surface, joining with the new Jedi order.
Shunned by many of the other survivors for his choices and abandonment of the old ways, Darin was nonetheless accepted as a volunteer, resuming his training as a Padawan while Falria was taken on as a youngling, their family finally provided for. Though not force sensitive herself, Tyla was permitted to work for the Jedi, running errands for whatever was needed as a layperson. At this time, Falria found herself place into a clan with other younglings, beginning her own education as a Jedi initiate.
The New Jedi Order
Separated from her family, Falria was shy at first, but soon grew accustomed to her clan and their primary instructor, another surviving Jedi Master who had cherished training the younglings and had resumed his role in this new order. With a Jedi instructor over them, the youngling clan began its training as initiates. Before she even fully understood what she was doing, Falria began training to open herself to the force.
As she began her training, Falria found it difficult to adjust to the expectations placed on her despite her age. Though this passed with time, she never found herself at the top of her clan, and was often closer to the lower of the class. During the morning, Falria participated in training similar to that of old, first focusing on Force studies, struggling with meditation and opening herself to the force. Her midday classes were not nearly as bad, studying history, science, math, and learning how to read and write. After their midday meal, Falria found her niche, for though she wasn't exceptional, during the physical exercises she found she could hold her own.
Within a few years, the Jedi code was second nature to Falria, and she was developing quite nicely, slowly but surely learning how to focus on her meditation without breaking concentration. Her knowledge of studies was passing at least, even if not the star pupil, and while not the strongest, she was the smallest and quickest of the younglings in her clan. Continuing with her training, Falria was educated in lightsaber combat, slowly but surely adapting herself to the strains of fighting.
At ten, as the New Jedi Order relocated to Tython, Falria received her first opportunity to attempt the initiate trials with the other younglings of her clan. Succeding in both the test for her knowledge of the Jedi code, and with mock lightsaber combat, Falria's personality led her to fail the third. Asked to provide judgment for a fake crime set up for her trial, Falria incorrectly chose to release the man, falsely believing his apologies to be sincere.
Practicing for another year, along with the other initiates who had failed their first attempt, Falria managed to pass her second attempt at the trials, easily succeeding in her third task this time. While the first had been to pass judgement, this time she was required to provide aid for a citizen, and happily fufilled her duties during the test. With great pride, Falria proceeded on, hoping to be chosen to become a Padawan.
As the months passed by and she waited, Falria was able to visit with her family for the first time in years. Her father Darin was in his eighth year as a Padawan now, readying himself to take the Jedi Trials, her mother Tyla still serving the order, now as a guard for the construction efforts of the new temple. In her free time away from her own studies, Falria began practicing combat with her father and her clan instructor, focusing on two weapon combat for the upcoming annual apprentice tournament, hoping to catch the eye of a master there.
Like Father, Like Daughter
Falria trained for the next six months, aging to twelve and increasing her skill with her training blades before the tournament finally arrived. When the event finally began, Falria confidently began her attack on the other students. She took fourth in the tournament, defeated after one of the more skilled students disarmed her of one of her blades, displaying her clumsiness at the use of a single weapon. Despite this, Falria felt confident she had caught the eye of at least one knight or master, yet to her surprise and fear, she was not chosen that day.
Nearly another month passed by, and though she continued her training, Falria became more and more concerned that she would not be chosen as a Padawan, failing both her father and instructor, forced to join the Jedi Servie Corps. With only a month before her time was up, she found relief as a returning Jedi Knight selected four of the initiates, young and old, to become his Padawan's. Orun Fain was a kind man, and Falria retired to the temple's chapel to meditate happily.
Expecting to depart the planet, Falria was surprised as Master Fain announced to his new Padawan's that he would be staying on Tython for a time to study what history the New Jedi Order had managed to recover. Confused, but obedient, Falria continued her studies at the temple, furthering herself in her skills and celebrating with her family as her father succeeded in his own trials. Despite her own happiness at the time, she began to find the scorn held for her position by the other Padawans.
Though she knew her father had forsaken his role as a Jedi in the past, it had not occurred to her that she would receive ridicule for such heritage. As time passed and she grew older, Falria found it more and more pressing. The other padawan's held no love for her as her clan had, and even her master seemed to treat her with the least respect of all his pupils. After five years of hard studying, practice, and work, Master Fain finally announced his intent to leave Tython, and that it was time for all of them to forge their first lightsabers.
Traveling to one of the caves on Tython, Falria saw an opportunity to impress her master. Gathering twice the materials needed and taking twice the time that the other Padawans did, Falria returned to her master with not one, but instead two lightsabers, favoring on her focused form. Pleased with herself and certain that he would approve of her extra effort, she was surprised to find that Master Fain was disappointed with her, lecturing her on focusing too much on one thing and trying too hard to impress him.
Defeated, her ego taking a toll, Falria bid her family farewell and traveled back to her birth place of Corsucant. With the other Padawan's and her Master, the five of them began serving as protectors for Senators, Master Fain advising where necessary, giving Falria the opportunity to learn more about galactic politics. As the years progressed, Falria saw the other Padawan's departing one by one to take their trials, leaving her alone despite what she felt was significant advancement on her part.
When Falria reached twenty two, she openly confronted her Master, wondering why she had not yet been allowed to attempt the Jedi Trials. Angering him with her brashness, Master Fain scolded her for her impatience, telling her that situations like this were the exact reason she had yet to proceed, and that he still had more to teach her. Reluctantly, Falria left Coruscant, heading with Master Fain to Yavin-4 to study ruins and deal with sightings of a Redeemer force in the vicinity.
