Personality:Claire is a generally cheery girl, always optimistic, sometimes far too trusting and wearing a smile despite everything life in the wastes has thrown at her. She's always happy to help out others, although what she can help out with isn't really that wide a scope. Her small stature doesn't really do much for her in a fight, and so she tends to avoid them, by far preferring to talk things out rather than resort to combat. When she finally sits down and talks or thinks about things and drops her normally cheery demeanour, the rest of her emotions will come flooding out whether she wants them to or not, although this will normally only ever happen with someone she's very close to. Or when she's incredibly drunk, depending on her mood.
Born into a fairly well-off family who made their living in craftsmanship and repairing in New Yellowstone, Claire was fairly lucky in comparison to the fates of most wastelanders. She grew up fast, being given as much of an education as was possible, never really going outside to socialise much, as she always preferred to be inside, tinkering with some new toy or piece of old junk that one of her parents had cast aside. When Claire was old enough, around the time of her sixteenth birthday, she began to help out with their work, fixing whatever old gadgets and bits of tech were brought to her, and eventually even being trusted with maintaining some of the weapons that the people of Yellowstone seem to need oh so much. This carried on for many years, with Claire looking to end up taking over her parent's business when she was older. It may not have been the most exciting life, but it was one that she was content with, as she was safe and had a future which, to Claire, seemed secure enough.
It didn't last. Her father soon started taking drugs, as Claire reached her twenties. It began with things like Steady, which he excused with being necessary to help him work more effectively, however as time went on he started more and more dangerous chems, eventually ending up hooked on Psycho. His continual violent outbursts led to more and more trouble for the family, until they could no longer keep up with the fines he incurred, especially since most of their money was disappearing to fuel his addictions. By the time Claire was 22, it reached the point where they were finally thrown out of the town and, with nowhere to stay, joined a small group hoping to set up a camp near the Rock Forest aiming to make some money from the petrified wood there in exchange for Claire's family's services in maintaining the group's tools and weapons. For Claire, it was more of the same and she tried to make out as if that was all it was, however she was a lot more upset about losing her happy, secure future than she made out to be, especially as her father now started turning his rage onto Claire and her mother. She could only keep it up for half a year, and after one final night of abuse, she decided she had had enough. With her bags hastily packed with barely enough food or water, and a simple club for self-defence, she slipped out of the camp late at night, heading North, not really knowing or caring where she would end up. Roughly noon the next day, after Claire woke up from her impromptu night of camping, she immediately regretted her decision. It was hot, she was covered in ash and barely able to walk or breathe properly, and half of her food was already ruined since she had no clue how to store or manage it properly to keep it safe. Despite her immense fear of what her father might do when she got back, she decided to return to the camp. On the way there, even more horrifying scenarios ran through her head, like what her father might have done to her mother when he found out, as he would likely blame her, if people had gone looking, if they thought he may have finally killed her and tried to hide the fact he had done so. Nothing seemed too ludicrous for Claire's racing mind, but any such thoughts stopped dead when she finally reached sight of the camp. Smoke, a sickening smell, and many, many corpses, most of which she recognised. As she walked through the gutted shell of the camp, she saw one or two survivors sitting amongst the ruins, shellshocked, as well as others returning from scavenging runs to find their tiny settlement completely destroyed. Claire found out from a few of the survivors what had happened: Raiders had attacked, but they had done so just before a group of Horsemen arrived. The resulting firefight left many raider and civillian casualties, but wasn't what caused the total destruction. That came when the Horsemen demanded payment for their amazing act of goodwill. Those who couldn't afford to pay were mostly killed, which was a large number of the people in the poor community. Those who could almost pay the demanded amount were allowed to live, but were told that if they were encountered by the Horsemen again, they would be treated as raiders or bandits would be. The settlers didn't need a fresh reminder of what that would be. As Claire had suspected, her parents were part of the group who couldn't afford to pay, their corpses lying in the centre of the camp.
A number of the survivors who could pay the full amount returned to New Yellowstone to begin again, but a few of those who couldn't stay mentioned where they'd originally come from, Flathead. Claire joined a band of them who decided that their best bet would be to try and get back through to Flathead County, and try to start over there. Through their travels, Claire picked up her knowledge of energy weapons, which she needed to use regrettably often, as the number of their group was gradually whittled down. By the time they finally reached the edge of Flathead County, there were only four of them left, the others lost to attacks, the elements or simply giving up. Two of them decided to head to Coram, whereas Claire and the other survivor, Michael, set out for Central Haven. Around 24 when she arrived, Claire then picked up work there maintaining their various high-tech gadgets, working her way up from fixing the vending machines to even being trusted with helping to run parts of the forcefield. She still keeps in touch with Michael, despite him living on the other side of the city from her, and working in a completely separate job.
