Personality: So'om is normally lighthearted and easy going when it comes to a change in plans. He cares for the opinion of others even when their opinion conflicts with his. With this said he is not one to be used and expects to be filled in totally on the situation at hand. No secrets and all knives on the table are the fastest ways to get his respect.
Much of his early childhood is unknown to him except the few memories he has of it. So'om was a child born in the city of Taneth to a military family in the heat of the Great War. So'om's father was never around as he spent most of his time in the Imperial Legion fighting the Dominion in the fruitless defense of Hammerfell. His absence left his wife and son with little money to sustain themselves, forcing his wife turned to thievery from the local market. Days turned into months and months turned into years before they heard from his father. A small one sentenced letter was all that had been smuggled into them, the memory is still burned into his head as the fourteen year old read it aloud to his petrified mother. "Legionnaire Sorrows' life was taken in defense of Skaven. -Legate"
It took a few days for the news to settle in for both of them. The emotional pain was too much for So'om's mother and she took her life leaving him an orphan on the streets. The struggle to survive seemed to get harder and harder with every passing day. He took any job he could get whether it be a clean delivery job or a dirty market robbery. Almost six months had gone by before he was rescued from the cold, Hammerfell nights. He was taken in by a wealthy merchant down on the docks who made his riches in dealing with the Dominion. As much as he hated living with his families enemies he complied and helped deliver packages for the merchant for the next two years and eventually fell in love with his daughter, but everything changed when the White-Gold Concordat was signed by the Empire. The treaty caused much resentment within his city and soon talk of putting old disputes behind and liberating Hammerfell from elven occupation became more then talks.
So'om was quick to jump on board, literally, in overthrowing the occupation. He joined a rebel crew of sailors in attempt to raid Aldmeri supply lines along the coast. Here he learned how to fight with a blade and soon became very skilled with a scimitar as they went toe to toe with the superior elven vessels and equipment. He also became swift on his feet from the high demand of sea life. Not to mention the bare knuckle brawls he participated in with his fellow crew mates. The lashing of the harsh sea and thrill of bloody naval combat made him feel alive for the first time in his life. In just five short years the poor, orphaned boy had turned into a skilled soldier.
When the Second Treaty of Stros M'kai was signed So'om returned home to Taneth where he was recognized for his service to Hammerfell and given command of his own ship in the Taneth navy. He swiftly seized the opportunity to marry his former caretaker's daughter and start a life with her but it was short lived as she passed away from an undiagnosed illness. He held this position and lived a relatively peaceful life aside from the civil war until being accused of aiding the escape of Aldmeri spies. Before he could be trialed for these false accusations he fled to Skyrim where he became a mercenary and adventurer for hire.
