Welcome, everyone who will care about this thread (hopefully more than 1 person )
This story is one I had a long time ago, and is actually one that spawned the story of my graphic novel (some of you may recall I mentioned I was writing one a while back). I never used it, as some aspects of it are heavily inspired from the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzamiya (don't know how to spell that name), but, seeing as it's now all for good fun in the Free Form section..."Why Not?", am I right?
The story follows Sarah Leheron, a Grad Student at Staton University (obviously a fictional school). Sarah is a perfectly normal young woman, with nothing remarkable about her, and someone who is just in general, boring. Indeed, Sarah is sort of like the Dursleys from Harry Potter, except she's not fat and isn't as mean as they are, but she shares their love of normality and views "oddities" as negative things. Sarah is attempting to earn her Doctorate in Medicine (with an emphasis on neurology) when, one day, one of her old professors, Michael Devens, a psychologist, brings to her home (which is near the Staton Campus) someone that Sarah has only heard about, but never met: her fifteen year old cousin, Miranda Caldwell.
Miranda's parents have lived in the town of Staton all their lives. They've also had very difficult times due to very little money. After Miranda's father loses her job, her parents, not being able to afford to take care of their daughter decide to send her to live with her cousin, Sarah, indefinitely until they can fix their situation at home. The story focuses on Sarah attempting to cope not only with Miranda's behavioral eccentricities, but the fact that she also possesses incredible powers. Powers that can alter the world her at will! A team of professors within the university, lead by Professor Devens, are very interested in monitoring Miranda, and making sure she is happy and that she is living a good life with Sarah (who Deven's suggested that Miranda's family try to send their daughter to, as Devens felt that Sarah's very ordinary personality would help Miranda adjust to more ordinary people and lower her eccentricities).
Meanwhile, other people outside the university have slowly caught wind of the girl with great powers. Some of them wish to manipulate her to use her powers to their own ends. Sarah and the professors of the university must keep an eye out to make sure Miranda's powers don't fall into the wrong hands!
So, that's the story. And with that, I have something of a rule: The whole story basically revolves around Miranda basically being something of a god, without really fully understanding that. She knows she has powers (a lot of people do in this world) but she doesn't realize just how powerful she is. Throughout the story she shows an ability to do a variety of supernatural things, but a lot of those she does accidentally, not fully knowing how to do them. She's also very childish and somewhat gullible, which is why the people at the university keep an eye on her.
Basically, what I'm saying is, Miranda is very powerful, more powerful than other characters, but she doesn't really realize it, and others try to manipulate her into making themselves more powerful. Please keep this in mind when making your characters.
Here's a character sheet (borrowed from Sal, with some modifications). I'll post my characters in a proceeding post. GO team!:
