Originally, The Lodestar was used by an independent expedition group. They hoped to find fame by mapping out the Unknown Regions and had chosen a VCX due to its ability to fend off any dangers. The group pretty much found nothing and got into the smuggling business. Along the way--as many smugglers do--they made many enemies. One of these enemies was a retired pirate who was fairly well off. Ruul Othisku was hired to hunt these smugglers down and did so with haste. He was paid quite well and given the ship, as well. Along his travels, Ruul met a Rodian junker and had him repair the minor damage the ship had taken over the years. A few years later, he bought six OOM Security Droids to operate the ship's guns and hired the junker--Choobis Needu--as his co-pilot.
