Personality: Harry is slow to warm to people and has a short temper, but anyone who gains his trust he treats as family. He is also quite stubborn, especially when his goals are driven by anger. Harry is still getting used to the 'rough living' of the world outside the vault. He often comes across as naïve and pampered to natives of the wasteland.


Harry Wake was born to security officer Joseph Wake and reactor technician Marlene Watts in 2260, in their home in Vault 138. Growing up, he had few friends, but got on reasonably well with his older sister Phoebe, though her rebellious nature sometimes got him into trouble with the Overseer. He was quite an intelligent child, and in fact followed in his mother's footsteps as the vault's reactor technician. He also learnt how to operate and maintain firearms from his father.

During his time working as a reactor technician, Harry was involved in an affair with one of his co-workers, Angela du Pontaine, the wife of a high-ranking security officer. She was ghoulified by a minor leakage of the reactor, and sent out of the vault. She asked Harry to come with her, but he refused. He still regrets his decision today, but has little hope that he will ever see her again (and if he does, he's sure she won't be too happy to see him).

Around four months ago, Vault 138's Overseer, Albert Chang, revealed that he, and every Overseer in the vault's history, had been androids. In fact, they were all the same android, self-modifying its appearance each time an Overseer 'died' to fit that of the new Overseer. Vault-Tec's aim was to see how an essentially immortal, near-human being would use their centuries of leadership. Despite Chang (and his 'predecessors') being particularly skilful and benevolent leaders, the announcement led to outrage throughout the vault, with many stating their desire to leave. This led Chang to put the entire vault into brutal lockdown. Phoebe Wake disappeared one morning, and Chang, in a fit of rage, had her parents executed. Harry managed to escape the vault, and has since wandered the ruins of New York City, hoping to find his sister and perhaps return to Vault 138.
