Personality: Jane has a very positive attitude towards life in the Wasteland. She's very upbeat and tends to act quite childish. Always adventurous, she acts very companionly towards others that she enjoys being around. Jane wants to find at least one person to explore the Wastelands with, as she's been rather lonely for the past couple months. (Unless you count the random traders she had 3 minute discussions with as company) She didn't have many friends when she was little, which could be the reason she desires them now. Overall, she has a very positive and generous personality.
But with these come the negatives. Jane is aimless, lacking a purpose and direction other than simply finding a place where she can enjoy herself without having to stick around in it. Again, Jane sometimes acts very childish, which could have some unwanted side-effects. Very calculating and devious, she will stop at nothing to get what she wants (So long as it can be obtained through subterfuge. Anything else is out of her league, and she has the capacity to realize that). Even though she has these flaws, she's been able to survive, so she believes that they can't be all that bad.
Jane was born in Vault 35, located in Montana, one of the few vaults still surviving to this day. The majority of the residents in the vault are deathly afraid of the outside world, however, which meant no connection to the Wasteland. Ever since Jane was young, she had an adventurous spirit, sneaking her way around the vault into restricted areas. She would sneak into rooms regularly, even going into the Overseer's quarters a couple times. Every time she was successful in not getting caught, she would take a little something for posterity. This is how she became adept at craftsmanship, as she would commonly put the stolen items together. First as toys, later as actually useful items. (For example, her Swiss army knife is made entirely out of stolen items from the vault.)
As she reached her late teenage years, she had been caught more often, as her age made her lose the size and weight advantage she had as a child. Not that it mattered, as sneaking around the vault had gotten stale after so long. On the day of her 18th birthday, she approached the Overseer about leaving the Vault for a life of adventure and exploration. The overseer said no, refusing to let her leave. She asked constantly, always being told no. She came to the conclusion that in order to leave she had to do something drastic.
And so she did. Just weeks after her 20th birthday, she caused a fire in the kitchen while the overseer was eating there. Nobody was injured, but in the confusion, she stole the keys to the Overseer's office. After searching around for a couple of minutes, she found the password to the vault door. What's next is not what you think, however. She was smarter than this. Upon discovering the password, she put everything back the way it was when she first got there, and later snuck back to the kitchen, laying the Overseer's keys on the table he ate at. Weeks passed, and she put the second phase of her plan into action. Late at night, she snuck out of her living quarters and escaped the vault with little resistance. The only thing she had to worry about was the guards who came to stop her upon the alarms that signified the opening of the vault. This was easy to deal with, however, as they were unwilling to follow her to the wastes. (Similar to the Lone Wanderer when he left vault 101)
The first days were tough, but they were actually easier than she had anticipated. The vault residents always talked about how being outside in the wastes was equivalent to suicide, but it was surprisingly survivable. Sure, irradiated water wasn't too great, but it was easy to get rid of radiation if you had the caps. She started scavenging the wastes in order to survive, and did a fairly decent job. The more she got around, however, the more she learned of a place to the south full of adventure and excitement, a place holding the closest things to nations in the wastelands, and the large amount of people in that area. She simply couldn't hold herself back. Over the next couple months, Jane slowly made her way across the wastes of former Montana, Idaho, and Nevada, until finally reaching the area she had heard of. This is where the past catches up to the present, and Jane now makes her way into NCR territory, awaiting what this new place will bring.
