Personality: Lucy, Lucy, Lucy... how does one describe The Librarian?
Well, we can begin by saying that Lucy has Aspergers, not that it is a well known fact. Her mental condition makes her almost unable to be aware of the outside Wasteland as a threat. She is unable to tie laces, eat foods that are two different colours or comprehend very simple constructs. What Lucy can do, however, is recognize knowledge and take in information like a sponge. This is why she has restricted herself (or rather, committed herself) to The Archive. Any information given to The Archive is also fed into Lucy's mind.
Her knowledge is, of course, restricted to lack of experience with certain fields of information.
Due to her condition of Aspergers, it is assumed Lucy would be very anti-social. This is incorrect- Lucy is extremely polite and mindful of her wording, being able speak in such a way that may convince someone she is actually something else (tricking them), if need be. Lucy loves teaching other people. It's how she makes friends.
When someone enters The Archive to become a Curator, she gets quickly acquainted with them. This is, of course, because she often finds herself lonely in The Archive with all the knowledge The Curators can throw at her, giving her the task or organizing it all and keeping it all intact. A job that she takes extreme pride in.
Though Lucy engages in social interaction with anyone who enters The Archive, she will never expose a close guarded secret regarding her origin in Little Lamplight... her greatest shame.
History:
Lucy was born in 2264 in Big Town and was quickly, at a really early age, taken to Little Lamplight by her unknown parents. Growing up around children was an experience that Lucy both loved and dreaded, learning quickly how nice (and mean) certain people could be and how different they were from herself. Others used to see Lucy as... an oddity within Little Lamplight due to her nature to study things in extreme detail. And because she refused to eat two foods of different colours within certain time periods.
But the children of Little Lamplight understood that Lucy was the way she was and accepted it. She grew up studying all she could from Little Lamplight, even at some points attempting to go beyond Murder Pass a few times to pry on the Vault down there, but often returned empty handed due to both fear and radiation.
She did, however, return one lucky time with a microscope and used it to see what little secrets appeared on... well, anything. This was what Lucy was found doing most of the time in her youth.
By the age of 13, Lucy was tired of living in the cave. She wanted to know what was beyond Little Lamplight... and prior to what she would tell anyone who she met beyond Little Lamplight- she actually broke the most sacred law of Little Lamplight.
She escaped. Lucy did not wait until her 16th birthday to leave, but instead, left mid 15 due to a dispute and much hatred drama with other closed-minded children. She quickly found herself in The Capital Wasteland, full of ghouls, super mutants, warring factions, monsters and, the worst of all, raiders.
Between the years 2279 and 2285, Lucy explored The Capital Wasteland (or at least most of the middle, north-west, southern and south-east portions). She often wore leather and carried a simple 10mm pistol with her (which often had no ammo, so she learnt to run extremely fast) while studying plants, mutated animals, the history of the Wasteland and society.
She found many things during this adventure. Crashed veribirds, tales spoken over campfires, technology of all kinds and how society has adapted. From Megaton to Old Olney, she got to see and study most of the Capital Wasteland in adventures that she barely understood how she got herself into, due to the Aspergers and lack of social understanding at some points in her life.
In 2285, while entering the Arlington Library for the first time, she was extremely interested in finding intact pre-war books. Directed to this location, she quickly became aware of the annoying Brotherhood presence and spent her time slowly and wisely sneaking around in the darkness to avoid detection. The flaw behind this poor tactic was not knowing what lurked in the darkness with her. And she was very confused when she bumped into a couple sneaking in the darkness with her... They grabbed her wrist and quietly (yet politely) sneaked out of the library, empty-handed, but also undetected. This is where Lucy met Corvus Blackwater and Jessica Rose, two eccentric exotic scrap collectors who had tons of rare scrap back in Megaton and Bethesda. They quickly became good friends through the share of interest and, oddly, Corvus and Jessica taking a liking to Lucy blurting out facts from time to time.
They decided to travel together into the DC ruins, hoping to find intact pre-war books.
Together, they found The Georgetown Public Library.... but were unaware of the traps that lurked. Automated traps activated and Lucy took a bullet to the kneecap, shattering most of the bones within her knee itself.
The creators of these traps, Mr. and Mrs. O'malley, Ghouls who were over 200 years old by this point, found the wounded and somewhat friendly trio and invited them into their home- the underground library. It was here that the O'malley's tried to fix their error and patched Lucy up the best they could... but the damage was permanent.
After realizing she couldn't walk very far, Lucy swore she would have to stay in the library (as a joke) and take care of it. This formed an idea in Corvus's mind where they would collect information and bring it to Lucy (also as a half-joke)... but the idea caught on and, over a period of two days, the five planned a group that would, in the future, be called The Curators.
Lucy has the only named position within The Curators due to her commitment she swore in 2285.... that she would organize, repair and keep The Archive in order and repair. All information that was known by the founders was uploaded or written, every item was put inside The Archive and every book was put on shelves. Over the years, more and more was added to The Archive.
In the modern day, Lucy took on the name "The Librarian" and only gets to communicate to the outside world through the Long-Range Transmitters and when Curator's visit. Food and drink is supplied to her as she takes care of The Archive with great enjoyment.
Her only dream is to teach the outside world the best she can, by teaching The Curators as much as she can and, hopefully in the future, setting up a radio station. That is Lucy's dream.
