Nexus Weekly News
March 20th, 2016
General News
If you're wondering why the News this week has been a little late in coming, wonder no longer. It's been a busy week for us, and things don't look like they're going to be slowing down any time soon. But, today also happens to be GuardsGhost birthday, who's been a major help in getting the Fallout 4 site update worked out. Be sure to wish him a happy birthday, and offer up some thanks for all his hard work as well!
Fallout
We're two days away everybody. Two days away from the first Fallout 4 DLC and I'm sure all you fallout fans are just dying of anticipation. Automatron may have some big implications for our beloved fallout universe, with the seeming return of the Mechanist, or a new one entirely. There's no telling what might be capable when it comes to the robot modifications, and the big thing we're all holding our breath over is whether or not Bethesda will solidify ending canon like we saw in Fallout 3. Either way, a brand new adventure looks like it waits for us with the Automatron DLC.
A major overhaul is coming to the west coast, with Caesar's Legion gaining a lot of land east of Hoover Dam we hadn't specified before, and more factions have been absorbed within their ranks. That's not even including the massive amount of land the NCR controls. It's difficult to pinpoint just how much these groups would have solidified their control over their respective regions, but Dawg's already written half a dissertation length on the Legion alone, so there's a lot of information coming.
Once our West Coast is back open however, we'll be taking new character submissions and old character re-submissions for Fallout in full order. If you've posted a generalized character with the proper information and dates, don't worry. We won't be asking you to resubmit it. We'll make a rule thread dedicated to how handling the resubmittal will work. The biggest change in all this however, is that we've made changes to the G.O.A.T., our character template. You're going to see some new sections in there, as well as consolidation of other sections. Overall, there's more description on how to fill out a character template now, so hopefully this will make things easier for everyone, and help us approve characters for use quicker!
Perhaps the biggest change coming with the template is the inclusion of a changelog. We know that characters rarely stay exactly the same during their use, so we're implementing this as a way to try and let you bring your characters forward as they move throughout multiple threads and storylines. This is going to be especially important for factions, which is next on the list for an overhaul. You can see a brief description of how to use this changelog in the Fallout character template, and overtime we'll be bringing this addition to every template on the forum.
Halo
For those of you that don't follow along with Halo Waypoint's "Canon Fodder" blog posts, there are some new things to talk about this week, though none of it looks like it's going to directly affect our setting. the Halo: New Blood released this month, digitally on March 2nd and on paper March 15th. The story follows Edward Buck, everyone's favorite ODST, and gives insight into his invitation to join the SPARTAN-IV Program. In addition, an announcement has been made for Halo: Tales from Slipspace. A graphic novel anthology, they haven't given us any definitive information besides it's release date - October 12th, 2016.
Star Wars
While we don't have anything immediate for you concerning Star Wars this week, we're still working on bringing you all a guide for the military. Currently, a look is being taken into the Empire's strategies, and how they would operate in our galaxy at war. With their most common ships detailed, it's now being determined what vehicles, ranks, armor, and weapons they'd use most frequently.
Legacy of Chaos
For those of you that remember, this is the custom world of magic and fantasy we've been constructing here at the Nexus. If you've not yet heard, we've created a wikia article to house all of the information. Currently, it's just not reasonable to try and contain so much in the Nexus threads alone. Zensun, our resident coding expert, has been working on our template's there, setting up infoboxes and incomplete page notifications. All in all, he's doing an excellent job, and with the more technical aspects being handled we can focus more on setting up our help guides and wikia policies for article creation. Without Fallout as our main priority, this likely won't be completed anytime soon, but as you're hopefully becoming used to we'll keep you updated on our progress here.
- Immortal, signing off.
