Born into a family of alcoholics and drug abusers, the male spent most of his early years in a Virginia town. Though his mother was kind to him, and treated him right, she was still a drug addict. He was raised well, but at the age of 17, raiders invaded the small town that he lived in and killed everyone, leaving the male as their sole witness.
Before he knew it, his family was dead, and his town burning to the ground.
Lucky for him, the BoS was sent on an attack mission to destroy the raider threat, but the were too late, and they'd only been able to "rescue" Nolan, with no family, the Brotherhood took him in under their wing and taught him their ways. He would repay them for saving his life by sticking around.
He had been introduced to a Knight through this, who would train Nolan as an Intiate. The Knight had a son, who was also an initiate at the time. The initiate told Nolan what he knew. The Initiate was known as Dean Jameson. The two Initiates would form a bond that Nolan had not felt for quite a long time. The duo became somewhat of a story within this brotherhood chapter. They'd been known to cause small amounts of mischief, but no one was prepared for what they did next. They went on a 'stealth mission' together with laser pistols to see what it was like being out in the real wasteland. This weaponry was fairly easy to acquire as Dean's father was in charge of the weaponry, and a few missing laser pistols weren't noticed as long as they were returned. They encountered a party of raiders who'd taken some prisoners, a woman, and a ghoul. Dean and Nolan thought they were hot shit, and shot one of the raiders in the leg, and freed the prisoners in the commotion. This story was kept secret from the rest of the chapter, for a little while. The two had told the other initiates of their awesome tale of heroism, granting the scorn of other BoS members for sneaking off. However, they'd proven they could use their skills in battle quite well. Granting them a promotion, under close watch of the Brotherhood, of course. The two were honored for their heroic deeds. If he learned anything from his childhood. It was how to defend himself. He became a field agent for the Brotherhood. Not much had gone on over the next few years, besides stories of what was going on in D.C. and the Commonwealth. He was usually just sent out to find old, pre-war tech.
His service did not go unnoticed, and he had been called to action.
He'd been told that he was going to Point Lookout, to begin a small settlement. He didn't know much else about the mission, besides the fact that he was supposed to help build the stepping stones to start this settlement.
He was on a small Riverboat led by a slightly unenthusiastic woman named Nadine. He'd be on a pier in no time.

Scribe Smith's Log 0301-D
"We're starting the expedition to Point Lookout, heading down the Potomac. All seems to be well, a slight breeze in the air. The men seem to hold a tension among themselves. They're prepared to fight, but not sure what we will encounter. I've noticed that Mirelurks like to lurk around these parts of the water, but thin out as we travel along the river."
Water is mostly clean, as we travel down the river it shows signs of some degradation. Perhaps oceanic radiation has begun to seep into the waters. Further investigation necessary.
...
"We've arrived, slight resistance on the docks but nothing the men cannot handle. It seems the corpses hold obvious signs of heavy inbreeding and radiation, they seem to possess the same mind-state as ghoulification. They possess hostility to anyone- or anything that is not their own kind...Interesting, I'll inform the other scribes to take a look into it."
End Log.

Nolan had quickly settled in to a lonely location inside of The Homestead Motel, a small room, but large enough for his things.
The room became his home-base of his tinkering operations. He worked with all sorts of different tiny machinery and tinkered with them. He did all sorts of thing in his free time. Screwing with his power armor and the likes.
