It had been an uneventful two days aboard the Tenzan as she shot through the blackness of space. The passenger ship had last departed a small Hytotl colony, and was on its way to one of the more populated human colonies. The route itself wasn't particularly dangerous, pirates were few and far between, not to mention the Tenzan itself was usually fast enough to outrun any potential threats. Of course even with her impressive speed, the journey itself was still a lengthy one, just a little over four days total. Finn didn't mind the long journey's as much as some of the other crewmen did, then again he always seemed to have ways to keep himself occupied, some of them the captain didn't always approve of... Fortunately the Apex's mechanical prowess was impressive enough to keep him from getting fired it seemed, if the Captain wasn't scolding him, he was usually praising him. Indeed Finn had done quite a good job of keeping the aging human-designed vessel in flying condition. Honestly though, if you asked Finn, he'd simply tell you that the only reason he could conduct repairs and maintenance so easily was because the ship itself was so simplistic in design. Despite its age, the Tenzan was a fairly reliable ship, and humorously enough Finn generally liked working on human ships more than Apex ones. Today had been a slow day for him, just general inspections and engine tuning, that was until a call came in about a passenger complaint that one of the cabins was unusually stuffy, likely due to a malfunctioning ventilation system. Finn couldn't help but smile when he was told which one, for he'd already had a bit of fun with one of it's occupants, much to her disdain...
A brisk walk saw the simian to cabin 13, given they had a fairly light load of passengers this time around, he already knew who occupied this one. There was that stuffy Hytotl lady he'd already pestered a bit with a few small pranks, a yellow Novakid sporting all that western-y gear they seemed so fond of, and a happy-go-lucky human gal that could play a pretty sweet guitar, he kinda felt bad for the last two... The last bunk in the four person room was empty, not that that seemed to make the prissy Hytotl any happier. Honestly Finn was surprised she'd booked passage on the Tenzan at all, while she wasn't a bad ship, it was pretty obvious from her shared cabins and lack of amenities that she was intended more for cheap travel rather than comfortable travel. That wasn't to say the beds weren't soft or the food wasn't edible, it just likely wouldn't be up to par with some people's more 'refined' palates.
"Room service!" the Apex said in a joking tone as he rapped his knuckles on the door to room 13.

This. Sucked. This sucked hard. This sucked with an extra side of tempura. Why in the world did her ship have to break down?! It wasn't her fault that the mechanics weren't able to keep the ship from breaking down--that was their job and her diplomatic duties usually took several days if not weeks at a time. It was their fault that they got it wrong and their fault that a week wasn't long enough to keep the ship in top condition. So why was she being punished by being sent on this crappy economy vessel?! Of course, she knew why she was aboard the Tenzan: it was the only ship she could get on that would get to her intended destination before the negotiations were scheduled to start, and even then it would probably be cutting it close. Mostly what she was dealing with was trade deals on behalf of one of the other daimyos. Hell, this was being done as a favor! She was being put through all of this because her uncle decided that her free time wasn't worth as much as that of one of his allies' diplomat's time. Not the ally, his freaking subject! Over his own family! So, perhaps it was natural from all the stress she was going through that she was going to be a little cranky.
That said, the ship wasn't making it any easier. Perhaps any one of the issues she was subject to would have been only a minor nuisance. Itchy blankets? Alright. Obnoxious roommates constantly pestering her and making noise while she was trying to plan out the negotiations? Fine. Pranks from some jackass Apex who apparently didn't get the message that his people weren't savages? Tolerable. All that together? If she could have she would have physically gotten out of the ship and pushed just to make it go faster. So when the air conditioning in cabin 13 started dying and no amount of finagling with the thermostat fixed it, she was at her wits' end. Making things worse was that one of the people aboard was a Novakid, and while she was fine with their presence most of the time having one putting off heat was just one more issue she didn't want to deal with. Especially without any humidifiers. WHY THE HELL DID THIS SHIP NOT HAVE HUMIDIFIERS?! She had to take a shower damn near four times a day to keep her skin from drying out! One of those in the middle of the night! At least they weren't charging for it.
Of course, as she was sitting in the sweltering room (note, probably just mildly uncomfortable, she's just prissy), she thought she would have been happy to hear the mechanic knock on the door. But no, as she set aside her datascroll, she was horrified to hear the voice of that infuriating Apex. There is no curse harsh enough to describe the rage I feel. Still, she played her part well, straightening out her kimono and putting on a plastic smile to greet the man at the door. "Thank goodness! It's been roasting in here. Please, come in." With that she stepped aside and let him in, allowing him to look into the ventilation system. "I was tinkering around with the thermostat, but it didn't seem to be working."

Space. The final frontier. Or, at least, that's what people would have you believe... people would always love to take the happiness out of situations. For example- people say space is pure darkness, but that simply wasn't true! Melody could quite clearly see suns and far away planets from the window. Staring into space, seeing the beauty of the galaxy from a tiny, tiny (and rather cheap) room inside a spacecraft. The concept of this reality thrilled Melody. Her very nature depended on being thrilled and cheerful about the smallest thing. Otherwise... she wouldn't be Melody, would she? The blonde Human was indeed cheerful, led on her bed in her quarters, watching Space from the confines of a reinforced glass window... upside down, of course. Her room was quite tidy and clean with simply a guitar laying against a wall lazily, a blue coat littered on the floor, a flute and flashlight randomly under the bed and a sack of apples tucked in the corner of the room. Laying non-moving for the longest time, the blonde giggled happily before rolling off the bed, landing with a 'thud'. Standing up instantly in a blur, she dusted off her red dress. Somehow, in the millisecond between landing and getting up, she grabbed the blue coat- quickly putting it on with a large smile.
Not much was known about Melody to the crew- other then the obvious fact she was cheerful, most defiantly Human and loved apples. But she rarely left her quarters and hasn't done anything to indicate any intelligence, skills or athletic ability... other then, now and again, the odd person passing her door may hear some soft music being played from inside. Having played music at the Hytotl Colony for enough time to satisfy Melody, she boarded the Tenzan with the sole intent of moving on, carrying almost nothing with her, but instruments, a flashlight and a sack of apples. She most certainly took a liking to the Apex Engineer, smiling happily and waving to him every moment she has the chance. Her cheerfulness didn't stop at the Apex either- the Hylotl, the blonde would shyly wave to now and again and the Novakid... well, Melody seemed amazed by the Novakid's style, if anything. Fascinated, even!
The blonde sat back on the bed with her guitar in hands, beginning to happily strum an upbeat tune without a hesitation. Those shells for walls may block out most of the sound, though races with higher hearing ability may still be able to hear the Human play her music. It was a beautiful sound- she was obviously very talented at what she did, but it's such a strange setting- the Tenzan- for such music to be played.
Melody would remain in her room, playing her guitar, unless disturbed.

Spin, spin, spin, stop. He's practiced this move more times than he could count. Spin, spin, spin, stop. He loved this feeling too, sure what he was doing was just for show, but it impressed people sometimes and even got him some cash on the side for public space transportation. Ace was spinning his two pistols in the mirror near his corner of the Cabin, of course he had unloaded them and put them on safety earlier, he wasn't that much of a gambler, but he needed to practice. It was a morning routine, something to keep his spirits up as he traveled known space in search for his ship. It was a morale boost for him, telling himself he was indeed the best star sheriff around and that he could get his ship back and get back to work. So, he kept on spinning his iron pieces to himself, not doing much else as he carried little on him, Ace only carried what was on him and that was only his clothing, hat and pistols, so he took up very little of the cabin, to the fortune of his cabin-mates.
Ace Gunn, self-deputized star deputy, really didn't talk much to the other passengers he was with, he'd gotten used to being the silent type on these kinds of voyages and this one was no different, though the blonde human seemed to be studying him over a bit and the Hylotl seemed to pass small glares while tinkering with the Air Conditioning unit that kept the room at a temperature that Ace assumed was good for the Human and Hylotl, he wouldn't know as he really just doesn't like anywhere specifically too cold. Apparently, it had died out and as Ace knew it, the Hylotl seemed to blame him for putting off so much heat. Well it wasn't exactly his fault, sure he was a walking humanoid-gas ball that when he died would supernova, but point being he didn't put off THAT much heat, Ace simply thought the woman was a bit judgemental with her glares.
Almost nothing else happened with the Novakid, he straightened out his sheets of his cot and laid back a bit, giving the Apex a small tip of his hat when he walked in to fix the A/C Unit, maybe the Hylotl would actually stop glaring around the room so much if he fixed it.

The Apex saw right through the Hytotl's fake smile when she opened the door and let him inside, though his own smirk was very much genuine as he stepped past her, a few of the tools on his belt clanking together along the way. "Thank you m'lday, you are most gracious." he'd tease playfully in an overly-posh voice as the door was closed behind him. Teasing aside, Finn could tell right away something was definitely wrong somewhere, the room was unusually stuffy, likely due to a problem with the ventilation system or something along those lines if he had to guess. "Played with the thermostat already did ya? Well I'll go ahead and take a look at the guts of it just to make sure that's not the problem." he'd reply as he made his way across the room to the touch pad on the wall. Anyone watching would have been able to tell he'd done this more than a few times, as the simian pulled a screwdriver from his tool belt and used it to effortlessly pop the outer panel of the thermostat off, exposing the wiring and other innards. After putting his screwdriver back, Finn took a couple of minutes to closely examine the various wires and connections for signs of damage. Seeing nothing in the way of damage to the visible components, the Apex pulled a small flashlight from his tool belt and flicked it on before hunching down and using the light to peer into the opening the thermostat had been resting in. Since there was still power going to the unit, Finn wasn't about to stick his fingers in and feel around, but he could at least get a fair look at a few of the parts within the wall. A few more minutes passed before he flicked off the light and stood back up straight. "Welp, if the thermostat itself is malfunctioning then the break in the connection has got to be in the wall somewhere, but I'd rather check a few other things before I go prying any panels off..."
After wedging the thermostat module back into the wall and ensuring it was secure, Finn turned his attention to one of the two ventilation ducts on either wall. "Heard any funny noises? Like rattling, scraping, that sorta thing?" he'd ask any of the bunch that happened to be listening. Of course when no such sounds were reported, the simian merely 'Hmmm'ed lightly to himself as he once again drew his power-screwdriver from his belt and began to unscrew the many screws holding the vent on the wall. Within a few seconds he'd pocketed a half dozen screws and popped the vent from the wall, revealing a small fan running quietly. After a quick visual inspection of the machinery, Finn put the vent back in place and quickly screwed it back down, at which point he'd head over to the second vent. Upon repeating the process there, the Apex let out a pleased "Aha!" as he set the vent aside. "Think I found your problem, looks like a malfunctioning fan, easy fix so feel free to unruffle that kimono." he'd jest towards the Hytotl with a playful smirk and a wink before he actually set to fixing the fan. Right away the Apex discovered the fan itself was perfectly fine, it had just stopped working due to old wiring, which was easily replaceable once he'd cut power to the unit. "So..." Finn began as he worked, figuring he'd make a bit of small talk with the three. "What are your guy's plans once we reach uhh, wherever we're going?"

It was blatantly obvious to Minako that the apex was mocking her with his greeting, but she decided not to dignify him with a response. Instead she simply found a seat while he got to work looking over the thermostat, though she wagered that wasn't the actual source of the problem. She was roughly familiar with human equipment, in fact her ship had a few bits and bobs of human origin, and while she wasn't impressed with the quality of the stuff on this liner she knew that human electronics were fairly reliable. Now, mechanical work on the other hand... well they were very mixed. While she waited, she mostly just sat down and continued her work, trying not to think about the other people in the room or (especially) that damn Apex. Really, she wasn't normally this cranky, but everything about this trip was a disaster to her. At least the human was a decent enough musician rather than one of those folks who just smashed the guitar strings like a savage--that was an annoyance that seemed to be in every species. But dammit her skin was itching from the dryness! SHE HATED THAT!
To his question of there being any noises, Minako responded with a shrug, "Not really; though it was already a noisy unit." Of course, to her anything that was louder than a whisper would have been noisy, so that was like saying that a car had a bad suspension because she could feel the bumps. Eventually he found the cause, which earned a relieved sigh from her... though that only lasted until he poked at her. Immediately she shot him a whithering glare before ducking her head back to her pad, deciding it was better to just ignore him than give him more ammunition. Wasn't her fault that these humans didn't think Hylotl would ever be on the ship and didn't get any damn humidifiers, or heck even some wet cloths or something. That didn't protect her from him attempting to make small-talk and, after the others spoke up or there was a long enough pause, she spoke up. "Assuming the ship isn't delayed, I'll be checking in with the planetary state house and hope I have enough time to take a loooong bath before negotiations start. I hate being dry..." They were headed for the planet of Hesperus, which was something of an arid world with rich mineral deposits, though it had plenty of other industries there. Of course, she was there for the silver and titanium mines as well as the steelworks, since that was all important for industry, and with her people starting to recolonize some surfaces, it was important to get that stuff started ASAP. That said, she really was dreading the semi-desert environment. Not a problem if she could get nice and wet and keep a wetcloth on hand, but she had forgotten to get hers off of her ship so she was currently without that. She really hoped she could take a bath beforehand, otherwise that negotiation was going to be hell.
