Name: Gabriel Salinas

Age: Thirty-two years

Bio: Gabriel never had a ton of financial success before the outbreak. Not for lack of trying - he graduated summa cum laude from UTSA with a criminal justice degree - but he just never seemed to have much luck. He was passed up because he didn't have the qualifications other applicants did, passed up because he lacked the requisite three years experience for an entry-level job, passed up at least once probably just due to racism. He wound up being something of a drifter: floating around, doing odd jobs here and there, filling in short-term positions just to make ends meet. Relationships never lasted long, thanks to his relative lack of stability.

Things had just started to look up when the outbreak occurred and the quarantine was instated: he'd found a nice job out in Indiana, met a girl, even started to save up for living conditions more respectable than a two-room apartment--and then, suddenly, it was back to square one. He'd picked up a few nifty tricks, some usually associated with illegal action, before he settled down; those made going back to the drifting he knew best pretty survivable. It certainly wasn't always comfortable, but the simple fact that he was still alive after two and a half years was more than many could have hoped for.

Personality: Gabriel was always the kind of person to act tougher than he ever felt, and surviving in a post-outbreak America only strengthened his resolve to present a facade. On the surface, he's a brusque, world-weary man who only really speaks to crack wise or offer relevant information. Under that, though, is a man with a heart two sizes too big for his chest who struggles not to wear his emotions on his sleeve. This outbreak has been a lot harder on him than he cares to admit, both physically and mentally. Companionship of late has always seemed to result in too much attachment and then crushing loss for Gabriel; but solitude of late has always seemed to result in crushing loneliness, a desire to just have another human around to laugh with. He's struggled hard to juggle the two extremes, to luck into a situation that doesn't devolve into something horrible.

Equipment: He prefers to travel fairly light, keeping most of his gear either holstered on his person or in a backpack. He does carry a fair few weapons, though: namely two pistols--a .45 and a nine-millimeter--a hunting rifle, and two melee weapons: a collapsible steel baton and a respectably sized folding knife. While he carries some ammunition and food with him, he tends to leave a more sizable stash at a base camp.

Cars aren't really a thing Gabriel has concerned himself with - he tends to prefer his own two feet, or a bicycle. He knows how to hotwire one, but never really learned enough about long-term maintenance and upkeep to make keeping a car around very feasible.
