So ... I've got a question about Ancient/Master magic.
The basic concept of the character I'm creating is that as a youth she, along with many others, were captured by a coven of witches, who, somehow, had gotten a hold of the lost magic of the Hand of Decay. The captives were for experimentation. The girl was being decayed, and would have died, if some Vigilants of Stendarr didn't intrude - having been on the hunt for the witches for some time. Following that she joined the Vigilants and follows their quest to hunt down Daedra and their ilk, though she specifically wishes to find the Hagraven in charge of the coven who cursed her.
There are three problems already I can think of with this idea:
1. Where did they find the magic? There's a reason why it's lost - it's Ancient magic. Long out of practice. I'm going to need to do a lot of thinking and explaining of how and where they found it.
2. How on earth do they cast it? There's definitely no Master mages among them - that sort of talent would make this relatively small coven very famous. The only solution I can think is that they joint cast it, taking all the power of their leader, a Hagraven (who I suppose would be a Expert), along with a couple Adept Hags, and then the rest being Novices and Apprentices to have enough Magicka to cast the darn spell. It would mean so much is used that they would only be able to use it once per day and would be weak and vulnerable afterwards which is why the Vigilants manages to rescue her.
3. Do I need to create a character faction sheet for them? I already want to make one for the chapter of the Vigilants that she will be joining - but should I make a second for the coven? I do want the Hagraven to be a reoccurring character - if only to have her slay the witch eventually, but a lot of details about the group is still fuzzy to me (like how they get the magic in the first place).
Anyway, I'm curious as to what you guys think of it.
This is still all in the making so don't be afraid to send me back to the drawing board.
