10 years after the world-altering events of Skyrim. . . It is the 211th year of the Fourth Era. Ten years after the death of Emperor Titus Mede II and the return of Dragons to Tamriel. The continent teeters on the edge of a grand conflict not seen since the Great War of 4E 175. The bold and young new Emperor, Attrebus Mede II, reigns from the Ruby Throne of the Imperial City. His Empire still reels over the losses of the Great War and the other disasters of the Fourth Era. The biggest threat to peace for the Empire comes from the Third Aldmeri Dominion, the alliance of Altmer and Bosmer that circles the Empire like a gryphon over a wounded indrik. The Dominion is guided by a ruthless Altmer supremacist faction known as the Thalmor. The head of the Thalmor, and the de facto leader of the Dominion, is an Altmer by the name of Archon Calynwen. While the Archon's legal power ends with the Thalmor, her political willpower smothers the other leaders of the Dominion. The Dominion makes no decision without her approval. It is widely regarded as only a matter of time before the forces of the Empire and the Dominion come face-to-face on the battlefield again. Subterfuge by the Imperial's Penitus occulatus and the Thalmor is a daily norm across the continent. Some actors work to slow down the eventual war, buying time for their respective forces to fully recover from the wounds of the first. Others seek to bring the conflict out of the shadows, or prevent the fallout from it from harming their own people. Cults of worship to the missing-gods Shor and Shezarr have sprung up across the Empire, while renewed faith in the Dragon-God Akatosh burns bright with the return of his children... Dragons. Brought back to Tamriel by the Dragon-God, Alduin. Their presence has been felt across all corners of Tamriel, their existence no longer a mere rumour. Many dragons have taken to living in isolated roosts, knowing full well that this second chance of life is likely to be their last. Others have taken to pillaging and burning the regions they settled in, looking for tribute and submission from the civilised races. A minority of the dragons have taken to the Way of the Voice, roosting around the Throat of the World under the tutelage of the dragon Paarthunax and the Greybeards of High Hrothgar. No matter how they choose to live their second life, dragons face the ever present threat of the adventurers, fame-seekers and dragon-hunters who hunt them - often unsuccessfully.
On The War: The renewed conflict between the Aldmeri Dominion and the Cyrodiilic Empire seems soon to begin. The borders of Valenwood have burnt and the Empire is dug in deep, the cry for war is loud on both sides and animosity runs high. The Embassies of the Dominion still stand, but the people of the Empire are less willing to bend to their whim. The Thalmor have failed to eradicate the worship of Talos completely, although they have stamped out the organised worship of it throughout most of Tamriel. For now, the most devout followers of Talos keep their faith hidden. How long until the denizens of the Empire sets their sights on removing the Aldmeri chain around their necks?

The First Century - 100 Years of Turmoil. {The First Century:}
4E 1 - The Oblivion Crisis comes to a close, mere months after it began, ushering in the Fourth Era. The last son of the Septim dynasty, Martin, sacrifices himself and the Amulet of Kings to forever close the bridge between Nirn and Oblivion. The armies of Mehrunes Dagon, Daedric prince of Destruction, are banished and the Empire is left leaderless. High Chancellor Ocato and the Elder Council attempt to maintain control, but the Empire remains weak and disorganised.
4E 3 - Following the devastation of the Oblivion Crisis, the militant religious order of the Vigilants of Stendarr forms out of the Knights of the Nine Divines. The order spreads rapidly across the Empire due to its less restrictive recruitment. Vigilants join the hunt for members of the Mythic Dawn and any rogue elements of Daedra that survived the end of the Oblivion Crisis. Eventually they extend their inquisition to hunting other Daedric Cults and covens of Necromancers, Witches, Vampires or Lycanthropes in all the corners of Tamriel.
4E 5 - The Red Year. The disappearance of the last of Morrowinds Tribunal of living gods, Vivec, causes the Ministry of Truth to become unstable. The great rock hanging above the city of Vivec begins its descent once more, and is held back only by the sacrifice of souls to power an Ingenium. It works as only a temporary measure, as the Ingenium fails and the rock collides with the city at incredibly speed and force. Southern Vvardenfell is annihilated, creating a submerged crater known as the Scalding Bay, and the geological upheaval triggers the super-eruption of Red Mountain. The entire island is left in ruins, hundreds of thousands of lives are lost or destroyed, and the fallout of the eruption causes mass destruction across the rest of continental Morrowind.
4E 6 - Cyrodiil struggles to cope with the influx of refugees from Morrowind, the Imperial Legion is stretched thin managing the catastrophe and continued rebuilding of the continent after the events of the Oblivion Crisis.
4E 7 - The Province of Black Marsh secedes from the Empire. Led by the An-Xileel and the Hist, the Argonians take the weakness of the Empire as an excuse to punish the Dunmer of Morrowind, who had held their people as slaves for centuries prior. The invasion of Morrowind is quick, Argonians massacre many communities of Dunmer in the swamps of Southern Morrowind, liberating plantations and entire Argonian tribes. House Telvanni and House Dres are crippled by the war, with only the forces of House Redoran enough to stop the Argonian advances and push them back to the swamps. Argonia still occupies much of these lands to this day. House Redoran uses its military sway to unite the other Great Houses together in the Grand Council of Morrowind. The Houses Hlaalu, Redoran and Indoril hold most of the power, with the Houses Dres and Telvanni filling a more historic role as they recover from the destruction of Morrowind.
4E 9 - Seeing the success of the Argonians against the weakened empire, the Mane of Elsweyr declares independence of the province. A short-lived war breaks out between the Khajiit and the Empire, with a number of regions in Valenwood and the city of Leyawiin in Cyrodiil falling to the Khajiit. The Imperial Legion and the Cameron Dynasty of Valenwood push back, until the Treaty of Dune is signed that grants the Khajiit independence as the Confederacy of Elsweyr. Leyawiin is returned to the Empire, although some regions of Valenwood were left to the Khajiit.
4E 10 - Potentate Ocato is assassinated, likely by Thalmor agents that saw the influential Altmer as a threat, triggering the Stormcrown Interregnum. Cyrodiilic warlords fight for control of the Ruby Throne and the title of Emperor, with the Elder Council torn and fractured by the power struggle. This internal conflict lasts for 7 years, and proves to the provinces of Tamriel that the Septim Empire and all it built is dead.
4E 13 - The forces of Hammerfell and High Rock sack the Imperial-sanctioned City of Nova Orsinium, forcing many Orc refugees to flee east into Skyrim and Cyrodiil. They are often looked down upon in favour of the Dunmer refugees already crowding both provinces. Many Orcs settle the region of Craglorn on the Skyrim-Hammerfell border, but are persecuted by the Redguards of Dragonstar.
4E 14 - The Counties of Leyawiin and Bravil independently secede from the Empire. Not long after they begin warring over the Niben Valley, turning the region into a quagmire of blood and bones. The Khajiit and Argonians of the region are persecuted heavily as spies by both sides.
4E 16 - The High King of Skyrim formally hands over settlement rights of the Island of Solstheim to the Dunmer of Morrowind. Many Dunmer had already travelled to the island after the Red Year, but now hundreds more leave Skyrim to help repopulate the city of Raven Rock and the surrounding countryside, which suffered its fair share of devastation in the Red Year. They bring with them creatures native to mainland Morrowind, like the Netch, Kwama, Guar and Nix-Hounds, changing the ecosystem of the island. House Redoran assumed control of the settlement efforts, and places Councillor Brara Morvayn in control of Solstheim.
4E 17 - Titus Mede, a Colovian warlord, captures the Imperial City in a daring and almost bloodless display of military genius. The Elder Council crown him the new Emperor of Tamriel. He sires a son the following year, Prince Attrebus Mede, and sets about cementing the Mede dynasty as the new Emperors of Tamriel beginning with conquering Bravil and Leyawiin.
4E 18 - The Blades, the personal bodyguards of the Emperors of Tamriel, end their service with the Emperors. Citing that their initial charge was to defend the Dragonborn line of the Septim Dynasty, not the new-found Mede dynasty, they retreat to a background role of caring for the Empire - not the Emperor. In response, Emperor Titus Mede establishes the Penitus Oculatus. This group takes on the mantle the elite bodyguards of the Emperor and spies for the Empire.
4E 22 - The Thalmor seize control of the Summerset Isles by overthrowing the King, Calenon Aldmeris, and putting in place a puppet from a distant branch of the ancient family of monarchs, King Naemon III. The new king immediately declares independence of the islands now known as Alinor from the Empire.
4E 29 - A Thalmor-backed coup in Valenwood ousts the King of the Cameron Dynasty from his throne. The Empire and its Bosmer allies are caught off-guard by the power struggle, and are forced from the woodlands by better-prepared and equipped Bosmer insurgents and their Thalmor allies. In an eerily similar event as those in Alinor 7 years prior, the Thalmor put a puppet Cameron in power. Queen Lorhwen Cameron, seceded from the Empire at the behest of the Kingdom of Alinor. The two Kingdoms form the Third Aldmeri Dominion and both come under the increasing sway and direction of the Thalmor. The Dominion severs all official contact with the Empire as it establishes power in its lands, a formal relationship between the two powers isn’t established for 70 years.
4E 40 - The Umbriel Crisis. A floating city, Umbriel, appears off the coast of Argonia, south of Lilmoth. Urged onwards by the machinations of a rogue Hist tree and the local branch of the An-Xileel it controlled, an army of undead sea beasts and unfortunate sailors sacked the city. The inhabitants of the city were killed, their souls dragged up into the floating city and their bodies raised to march amongst the undead host. The event became known as the Slaughter at Lilmoth, and the city remains but a shadow of its former self. Umbriel and its undead host moved ever north through the heartland swamps of Argonia, destroying dozens of tribes and towns as it went, enslaving all those that died to it. Eventually the host moved into Morrowind, ravaging the cities of Stormhold, Narsis, Daven’s Watch and delivering further destruction upon the already suffering Dunmer of Mournhold, Bal Foyen and Ebonheart, crippling House Indoril. The city settled for several weeks over the Scathing Bay of Vvardenfell, where Vivec once sat, before it turned west and the host began the long march towards the Imperial City. The Empire, forewarned by its scouts and agents, prepared the Sixth Legion for defence around Cheydinhal to stop the undead host. They failed, and the Siege of Cheydinhal was ended abruptly when Umbriel shadowed the city and sapped the souls from the defenders. The remnants of the Sixth Legion joined the First and elements of the Second Legion at the Red Ring Road, where they prepared for the eventual siege of the Imperial City by the undead host. Countless died in the ensuing combat, their souls harvested by Umbriel, and all attempts to stop the city by the mages of the Synod and College of Whispers failed. Then as abruptly as it appeared, the nightmare spectre of Umbriel vanished over Lake Rumare. Prince Attrebus Mede took responsibility for banishing the city, alongside his agents and a young Breton noble-lady from Lilmoth, Annaïg Hoïnart, who would go on to marry the Prince and eventually serve by his side as Empress upon his ascension to the throne.
4E 42 - The Night of Green Fire. Altmer dissidents had been regularly fleeing the Thalmor in Alinor for the last decade, many arriving by boat to the city of Sentinel in Hammerfell, where the Altmer had set up a thriving community. Thalmor agents stole into the city during nightfall and began their purge. The Thalmor and dissidents alike were powerful mages and the use of destruction magic thundered from both sides. The ensuing magical conflagration burned much of the city to the ground before the Tenth Legion could arrive to fend off the attack. The entire refugee district, and most of the Altmeri and Bosmeri population of the city had been purged.
4E 65 - Councillor Brara Morvayn of Solstheim passes away, replaced by her son Lleril Morvayn.
4E 90 - Emperor Attrebus Mede passes away. He is succeeded by three sons and two daughters with Empress Annaïg Mede. His eldest son, Prince Taig Mede, ascends to the Ruby Throne.
4E 95 - House Hlaalu make an attempt on the life of Councillor Lleril Morvayn in an attempt to seize control of Solstheim and the ebony mines of Raven Rock from House Redoran. The coup is quelled, and House Redoran uses its position on the Grand Council of Morrowind to further chastise House Hlaalu. House Hlaalu is disgraced and cast from its status as a Great House, stripped of titles and land. In their place House Sedras is elevated to the Grand Council and granted the kahouti’s share of Disgraced House Hlaalu’s former assets in Western Morrowind.
4E 98 - The Void Nights. The two moons of Nirn, Masser and Secunda, vanish from the skies. Mass panic occurs across Elsweyr and for two years an entire generation of Khajiit is born mangled and monstrous. Of those few newborns that survive, the Void Cubs, the majority are killed by their own parents to spare them the suffering of a moonless sky. Some are raised to adolescence, but fall to the call of the Dro-m’Athra and are cast out of society and into the wilderness as bent cats.

The Second Century - The Great War. {The Second Century:}
4E 100 - With the sudden return of Nirn’s moons to the night skies, the Void Nights comes to an end. The Thalmor openly take credit for returning to two moons and the Khajiit begin to credit the Thalmor as the saviours of their race. Imperial influence wanes dramatically in the Confederacy, and Altmer-Khajiit relations prosper.
4E 101 - The island of Artaeum disappears from Tamriel. Home of the Psijic Order, the island has disappeared once before in recorded history. The Psijic Order pulls back its presence across the continent and seizes all attempts to maintain the established politics of Tamriel. Many Altmer dissidents blame the increasing hostility of the Thalmor to the Psijics, and an attempted invasion of the island gone awry.
4E 107 - Emperor Taig Mede dies in combat against a clan of Minotaurs that attacked his traveling party as he went to visit the Kingdom of Wayrest. As Emperor Taig was heirless, the Elder Council passes the succession to his younger brother, Prince Attrebus the Younger, now Emperor Attrebus II.
4E 112 - House Sadras formerly establish worship of the True Tribunal in Narsis. Based out of a new Tribunal Temple, priests who were considered dissidents by the previous Tribunal firmly worship the three Good Daedra and the ancestors of the Dunmer people. It is considered a return to the roots of the Dunmer, and the old Tribunal of Almalexia, Sotha Sil and Vivec is branded false. The three once-gods are demoted to sainthood. Worship of the True Tribunal spreads far and quickly, spread by the greater Dunmer diaspora to locations as diverse as Cheydinhal and Raven Rock. Belief in the False Tribunal begins a steady decline towards obscurity and hereticism. House Indoril, famed for its dedication to the old Tribunal suffers greatly as the people flock to the new religion yet it remains steadfast in support of the old Tribunal. House Indoril and House Sadras conflict on the Grand Council is common and bitter.
4E 115 - The Elsweyr Confederacy dissolves over a dispute between the Mane, based in Torval, and the influential High Priestess of the Lunar Clerics in Dune. The High Priestess, backed by the tribes of the northern plains reforms the ancient kingdom of Anaquina as the Moon-Blessed Lands of Anaquina and rules as its first Lunar-Queen. The Mane rallies his followers in the jungles of the southern Elsweyr and establishes dominance over the region now known by its ancient name, the Kingdom of Pelletine, and begins the short-lived War of the Broken Paw against the Lunar-Queen. The Thalmor broker a peace after months of bloody civil war between the Khajiit, convincing the two sides that they must exist in harmony as the moons do and that the Aldmeri Dominion shall act in the capacity of the aligned-moons, the Third-Moon. In effect, the twin nations of Khajiit become client states to the Aldmeri Dominion, who lend them their economic and military aid in return for casting out the last Imperial presence in the region.
4E 122 - The Great Collapse. Much of the north-eastern region of Skyrim collapses into the Sea of Ghosts in a great avalanche. The city of Winterhold is almost completely destroyed by the event. The influential College of Winterhold, the oldest still-active faction dedicated to the study of magic in the Empire, remains unscathed - standing out on a peninsular of rock while the rest of Winterhold around it crumbled away. The Nords blame the mages for the act, and a distrust for magic first founded in the Oblivion Crisis quickly takes deep root amongst the people of Skyrim. The College denies the charges, claiming that the event is somehow tied to eruption of Red Mountain during the Red Year, and the College was only saved by the magical skills of its students and masters.
4E 129 - The old city of Riften is burnt down in an uprising against its corrupt Jarl. The fire, initially meant to oust the Jarl from his castle, spreads throughout the city and reduces it to ash. While the city gets rebuilt, its status is considerably diminished from the sprawling city of old.
4E 130 - Councillor Lleril Morvayn repairs the Bulwark of Raven Rock due to the increasing frequency of ash storms from the ever-erupting Red Mountain. Before its completion, the city of Raven Rock was expected to eventually be buried beneath the ash.
4E 143 - The venerable Emperor Attrebus II passes away, leaving the Ruby Throne to his eldest grandson after the death of his own son a number ten years earlier, the Prince Marcus Mede ascends to the Ruby Throne.
4E 150 - Argonians bent on further revenge against the Dunmer land on the island of Solstheim. The Siege of Raven Rock is long and harsh, but it is repelled by Councillor Lleril Morvayn and the soldiers of House Redoran under his command.
4E 153 - Distrust and anger between Hammerfell’s two primary political factions, the Forebears and Crowns, has reached a boiling point after over a century of renewed hostility. A collection of armies from the Forebear supporting city-states of southern Hammerfell descend upon the Crown-controlled city of Skaven. They demand control of the city be handed over to the city-states. The Crown forces rally to the defence of Skaven and civil war seems almost certain to bloody the sands of the Alik’r, when Emperor Marcus rides in at the head of the Tenth Legion to negotiate a peace. The two sides dissipate, but it doesn’t stop animosities from further inflaming into smaller scale skirmishes between the two factions across the province.
4E 168 - Emperor Marcus Mede dies from a bout of illness and is succeeded by his youngest son Prince Titus Mede, now Emperor Titus Mede II.
4E 171 - The Great War begins. An emissary from the Aldmeri Dominion brings a sudden ultimatum to Emperor Titus Mede II. The concessions range from handing over vast swathes of Hammerfell and Cyrodiil to the Dominion, outlawing the worship of Talos, the dissolution of the Blades and exiling the Direnni Clan of Altmer from High Rock. The Emperor rejects the ultimatum, and is presented with the heads of every member of the Blades that was serving in Valenwood, Anaquina and Pellatine. The next day an army led by the Thalmor general Lord Naarifin emerges from camps hidden from Imperial eyes in Anequina. The Dominion advance flanks the Imperial defenses along the Valenwood border. Leyawiin falls quickly to the invaders and Bravil is besieged on all sides. Simultaneously, an army under the Thalmor general Lady Arannelya crosses into Cyrodiil from Valenwood and bypasses the defences of Anvil and Kvatch, heading straight for Hammerfell where they join the Dominion Fleet in the Sacking of Rihad and the Massacre at Stirk. The Tenth Legion are forced to retreat across the Alik’r Desert, an event that leaves their numbers depleted by over a third known as the March of Thirst.
4E 172 - The Burning of Valenwood. In an attempt to distract the Dominion forces marching up the Niben, the Fifteenth Legion led by General Trano push into Valenwood through the dense jungle of Malabal Tol. Using battle-mages from the Synod with magical fire, the Fifteenth Legion commits to the Sacking of Silvenar. The fire burns out of control for several weeks as the Fifteenth Legion push east towards the Reaper’s March and Anaquina, reducing much of the northern border of Valenwood to a burnt husk. The Fifteenth Legion then settles into the long Siege of Arenthia, a border city with Cyrodiil.
4E 173 - The Knights of the Nine based out of their monastery fortress in southern Cyrodiil are put to the sword by Aldmeri forces. Killed to the very last, the order once again fades from Tamriel. The sacred relics they harboured are scattered across Tamriel - either hidden by Knights or their allies, or pillaged by Aldmeri forces.
4E 173 - The Second Legion stationed on the border with Argonia attempts to relieve the Eleventh Legion currently held down in the Siege of Bravil. The relief force is mid-way through crossing the bridge at Fort Redman when it suddenly collapses. Khajiiti forces under the banner of Chieftain Nasta surge from the undergrowth on both sides of the Niben and carve a bloody swathe through the Legion. The Battle of Redman Crossing is eventually turned in favour of the Imperial forces when Chieftain Nasta is cornered and cast bloodied into the deep, slaughterfish infested, river. The Legionnaires on the western side of the Niben are broken and slaughtered, leaving the Second Legion at half strength as it began the long march to the closest friendly crossing of the Niben, the Red Ring Road far to the north.
4E 174 - The Sack of The Imperial City. Following the lack of reinforcements to Bravil, the city eventually falls and the Dominion forces filter north towards the Red Ring Road. A series of short battles and sieges follow as the Imperial forces are pushed back to City Island proper and a the handful of crossings. The First Legion, defenders of the Imperial City and the Red Ring Road, sacrifice themselves to punch a hole through the siege and get the Emperor, his family and as many civilians as they could out of the Imperial City and North across Lake Rumare. The city falls when the Dominion Fleet, fresh from action around Hammerfell and High Rock, brings reinforcements from Alinor up the Niben. Many citizens take shelter in the Imperial Sewer network, but are slaughtered as General Naarifin summons lesser Daedra to hunt them down. The Imperial Palace is burnt, White-Gold Tower looted of its precious artefacts and numerous atrocities committed on the defenseless population of the Imperial City. It is rumoured that General Naarifin and those officers beneath him commit the atrocities in the name of the Daedric Prince Boethiah.
4E 174 - Following the successful capture of the Imperial City, a contingent of Dominion forces are sent North to harass the city of Bruma and destroy the last headquarters of the Blades at Cloudruler Temple. The Siege of Cloudruler is a bloody one, but it is short. Thalmor mages bring the walls down upon the heads of the Blades and the massacre is so complete that the Blades are considered extinct afterwards. Those that escape are hunted down mercilessly by the Thalmor.
4E 174 - With the Empire is busy fighting the Dominion and the Skyrim-based Fourth Legion heading to relieve Imperial forces in Cyrodiil, the Reachmen of Southwestern Skyrim rise up in rebellion. They quickly conquer Markarth and take the rest of The Reach almost bloodlessly.
4E 175 - The Battle of the Red Ring. Emperor Titus Mede II and the stragglers from the First Legion make contact with the Fourth and Third Legions led by General Jonna. Together they devise a plan where they will split the Legions into three hosts to surround the city. The Fourth Legion would besiege the city from the North, while the Third Legion made contact with the remains of the Second Legion on approach from the South. The Sixth Legion, fresh on approach from Morrowind would approach from the East. The combined might of the Imperial Legions was enough to besiege, and conquer, the occupied Imperial City. The Dominion forces in the city, surrounded and cut off from reinforcements, were slaughtered to the last. It is said Emperor Titus Mede II himself killed Lord Naarifin and his Daedric benefactors in close combat, although rumours persist that the Emperor was wounded by an attempted assassination attempt before the battle and some now forgotten hero took his place at the front of the battlefield.
4E 175 - The White-Gold Concordat. Knowing his Legions were exhausted and the Empire unable to continue committing to the war, Emperor Titus Mede II sought out negotiations with the Aldmeri Dominion to end the war. The peace treaty, deemed the White-Gold Concordat, was almost identical to the ultimatum that Emperor Titus Mede II had rejected at the start of the war. The worship of Talos is outlawed. The Blades, the personal guards of the Empire, were disbanded. Large parts of Southern Hammerfell, occupied by Aldmeri forces during the war, were ceded to the Dominion. The Thalmor were given free reign to set up ‘Embassies’ in the provinces of the Empire to ensure the terms of the Concordat were met. In return, the war would end and the Empire could keep the rugged mountainous region it had claimed north of Arenthia in Valenwood, pushing the Cyrodiilic border down to the next branch of the Strid River. The Direnni Clan was also allowed to maintain its presence in High Rock.
4E 175 - Not all were happy with the Concordat. The Redguards of Hammerfell deeply opposed the ceding of their lands to the Aldmeri Dominion. Seeing it as a betrayal, King Fahad of Hammerfell rejected the terms of the treaty and Emperor Titus Mede II was forced to renounce the Kingdom as a province to maintain the Treaty. The Tenth Legion pulled out of Hammerfell, and the Redguards were left to continue their fight against Lady Arannelya and her Dominion forces.
4E 175 - The city-states of Dragonstar and Elinhir in the Craglorn mountains secede from the Kingdom of Hammerfell while the Redguard forces are weakened from the war with the Dominion. The Kingdom of Craglorn is established through the political marriage of the Redguard King Yaleb of Elinhir and the Nordic Queen Elissa of Dragonstar. The Kingdom attempts to subjugate the local Orc clans, both those descended from the refugees of Nova Orsinium and the Iron Orcs native to the region. Conflict is common between the two forces, with the Orcish clans banding together against the Kingdom.
4E 176 - The Markarth Incident. At the behest of Hrolfdir, the deposed son of the Jarl of the Reach, convinced High King Istlod of Skyrim to create a militia led by veterans of the Great War to retake The Reach from the Reachmen. In exchange for retaking the region, they promised the militia free reign to worship Talos in contravention of the Concordat. Led by Ulfric Stormcloak, the militia crushed the Reachmen forces at Markarth with the aid of the thu’um, an ancient magical art. The survivors of the Reachmen forces fled into the mountainous wilderness and formed a group called the Forsworn to continue their insurgency against the Nords of Skyrim. Not long after the victory, the Empire allows the Thalmor to arrest Ulfric Stormcloak for his open worship of Talos. Although he was eventually released from Thalmor custody, this incident kindled the fire of resentment of the Thalmor and the Empire in Skyrim.
4E 178 - The Battle of Hegarthe. The Aldmeri forces continued their push into Hammerfell, heading for the city of Hegarthe, the current location of King Fahad himself. Lady Arannelya believed that the Forebear cities, who had openly opposed the monarchy for over a century, would stand aside while the Dominion forces dealt with their problem for them. Attempts were made to lure the Forebear population of Hegathe to betray their King to the Dominion. They did not. As the Aldmeri host marched on Hegathe they were attacked from the rear by the combined armies of the Forebear City-States that had only twenty years prior almost started a civil war to dethrone King Fahad. The Dominion, distracted by the Forebear army, left themselves open to an assault by the Crown forces out of Sentinel, led by King Fahad himself. The Dominion were routed, and shared an eerily similar fate as the Tenth Legion as they retreated across the Alik’r desert, harassed by the clans that dwelled within it along the way.
4E 179 - The Siege of Hew’s Bane. In a bloody and quick year, the Aldmeri forces were pushed back from their holdings in the conquered cities of Gilane and Taneth by the combined forces of Hammerfell, backed by unofficial aid from the Breton kingdoms of Wayrest and Daggerfall in High Rock. Pushed into the peninsular of Hew’s Bane, the Dominion soldiers led by Lady Aranneyla held the Prince’s Gate at the only pass into the peninsular for half a year without reinforcements or aid from Alinor. The veteran Abah’s Mer, as the Dominion forces took to calling them, were finally relieved by the Dominion Fleet near the closing of the year.
4E 180 - The Second Treaty of Stros M’Kai. Following the stalemate at Hew’s Bane and the ongoing and bloody Siege of Rihad, the Aldmeri Dominion sued for peace with Hammerfell. It officially withdrew its forces from the region of Khefrem in southern Hammerfell and Rihad, but maintained occupation of Hew’s Bane and the region around the towns of Chaseguard and Roseguard west of Rihad and the Brena River. King Fahad almost backs out of the agreement, but only agrees at the behest of the Kings of Wayrest and Daggerfall.
4E 181 - The ebony mines of Raven Rock, after centuries of exploitation, finally run dry. The city turns to hunting and fishing for sustenance, and many Dunmer leave for better work opportunities on the recovering mainland.
4E 182 - The young and strong Orcish King Drubuk Gro-Danush reaches an accord with Emperor Titus Mede II. With the support of the Empire through the veterans of the Third Legion, the Orcish King conquers Dragonstar and Elinhir in an event known as the Pacification of Craglorn. The Empire re-establishes the province of Nova Orsinium in the Craglorn mountains, with King Drubuk as its vassal. In return for taxation of the Chorrol-Elinhir-Dragonstar-Wayrest trade route, the Orcs are granted control over the mountains as long as it pacifies the region and ensures the route from Cyrodiil to High Rock remains clear. In support of this effort, the Empire invests in a new Imperial highway through the region and the re-commission of the defunct Fifth Legion to support the king in its defence. The economy of Craglorn quickly picks up pace, with many mines flooding the Imperial market with high quality resources. The Orsinium Orcs begin construction of a new Nova Orsinium, while the Iron Orcs content themselves with returning to their mountain holds. The cities of Dragonstar and Elinhir chafe under being ruled by an Orc, but the Imperial presence and booming economy keeps them quelled.
4E 183 - The Jarl of Windhelm Hoag Stormcloak, dies. His heir and son, Ulfric Stormcloak, assumes the mantle of Jarl upon his release from imprisonment by the Thalmor. His rule is good for the Nords, but the Dunmer and Argonian populations chafe under his xenophobia. Imperial ships coming through the port find an icy welcome.
4E 188 - The city of Wayrest falls victim to a wave of corsairs led by the Abecean Pirate King, Velehk Sain. Rumours abound about the corsairs being paid to disrupt the Bretons of High Rock. The port and much of the city is ransacked before the King’s Knights and the Sixteenth Legion can force them back into the sea.
4E 188 - Fighting between two of Cyrodiil’s largest skooma traffickers leads to a series of violent fights in the city of Bravil, the Lucky Old Lady statue is destroyed in the fighting and an unknown crypt beneath it is ransacked. The Twelfth Legion is called in to place the city under temporary martial law. Anti-Imperial sentiment remains at a high amongst the city’s Khajiit population.

The Third Century - The Dragon Crisis. {The Dragon Crisis:}
4E 200 - The Mechanical Heart, Sotha Sil’s attempt to create a divine power source for the Clockwork City finishes construction, 207 years after his death. The Clockwork Apostles, who had been struggling to keep the realm alive, now face the threat of a realm too alive. The bio-synthetic Fabricants begin to take a sentience of their own, and become capable of reproducing with each other. Plant life begins to grow abundantly and slowly smother the city.
4E 201 - A rogue Clockwork Apostle named Mecinar, exiled from the Clockwork City for inhumane experiments, returns to the city to rally other exiles and take control from the Apsotle Council. A short and bloody conflict occurs over the right to control the Mechanical Heart that threatens to tear the Clockwork City apart. Fate brings a forgotten hero to the City, who challenges Mecinar and sacrifices himself to the Mechanical Heart to destroy the threat of the rogue Apostles. With the heart secure, the Clockwork City is allowed to flourish again.
4E 201 - High King Istlod of Skyrim passes away. A moot of the Jarls is called to formally recognise his young son and heir, Torygg, as High King of all Skyrim. Torygg is an impressionable youth, untested in combat and married to the beautiful Elisif ‘the Fair’. At the moot the grizzled veteran of the Great War, Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak of Windhelm speaks boldly and openly about independence from the Empire for Skyrim and the Nords. He makes an impression on High King Torygg and is invited to the court to speak further on his concerns. Yet when Jarl Ulfric travels to Solitude, he came to challenge the High King in a duel for the throne. Jarl Ulfric was easily marked to be the winner, as he was older, stronger and more battle experienced. Yet Ulfric chose to use the thu’um to strike High King Torygg down. This breach of the ancient tradition resulted in Ulfric being branded a regicide yet he fled the city before he could be arrested.
4E 201 - The Stormcloak Rebellion. Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak, a criminal and a regicide, evades arrest at the hands of the Empire and the forces of Skyrim loyal to the High King. Once back in Windhelm he raises his banners and calls upon supporters from across Skyrim to join him in ousting the Empire. Their primary belief is that the Empire and the White-Gold Concordat puts the Nordic way of life at risk. He is joined by the Jarls of Dawnstar, Riften and Winterhold in what would become known as the Stormcloak Rebellion. Combat breaks out across the province as rival holds use the rebellion as an excuse to settle age-old scores.
4E 201 - The Imperial Response. The Fourth Legion, based in Skyrim, begins securing the holds most loyal to the Empire. The Nibenese General Tulius is brought in from Cyrodiil to direct the efforts of the Fourth Legion against the Stormcloaks. He makes it clear he respects the rights of Skyrim’s Jarls to elect a new High King in a Moot, and receives the backing of Jarl Elisif the Fair of Solitude - the widow of High King Torygg. The Jarls of Falkreath, Markarth and Morthal side with the Empire, and after a short period of negotiations on behalf of a local Nord, the Imperial Champion, so does the Jarl of Whiterun.
4E 201 - Civil War in Skyrim. With the introduction of the Fourth Legion to the conflict, Skyrim enters into a short period of bloody civil war. Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak is captured by Imperial forces early in the war, but manages to escape during the Burning of Helgen. The Stormcloak Forces initially make gains in the holds of The Reach and Hjaalmarch with the aid of a Nordic Champion, who aided in Jarl Ulfric’s escape from Imperial custody, and the offensive culminates in the Siege of Whiterun by Ulfric’s forces. The Siege is broken by the aid of the Imperial Champion, securing the physical heart of Skyrim for the Empire. This is met with a pushback from the Legion who trigger the Siege of Riften and replace Jarl Laila with Jarl Maven Black-Briar, the matriarch of the local and highly influential Black-Briar family. The Legion offensive is bolstered by the security of the land-routes from Morrowind, High Rock and Cyrodiil. The Stormcloak forces found themselves pushed back into the North-Eastern reaches of Skyrim and the forts they controlled fell to Imperial siege. Their guerilla war persisted for some time, slowing the Imperial approach on Windhelm - the seat of Jarl Ulfric himself. The eventual Siege of Windhelm was long and bloody. The Stormcloaks put up a fierce defense of the ancient city. The Nordic and Imperial Champions met in open combat on the steps of the Palace of the Kings, a display that those who witnessed it would keep with them forever. As the siege drew to a close, the Empire was left victorious. Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak was dragged out in chains, bound and gagged, before General Tulius and his second in command, the Nord Legate Rikke. Rikke herself delt the execution blow on Jarl Ulfric and the rebellious Jarls were replaced with those more willing to work besides the Empire. The face of Skyrim changed, but the heart remained divided all the same. The Stormcloak Rebellion, dampened though it was, lived on for a time as disorganised and disunited bands of insurgents.
4E 201 - The Dragon Crisis. Amidst the backdrop of the Civil War in Skyrim, Alduin the World-Eater returned to Tamriel. The Dragon-God of the Nordic Pantheon began his assault by targeting the town of Helgen, who at the time was playing host to General Tullius and his prisoner Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak. The Burning of Helgen was almost the end of the Civil War, but it was the trigger for a new crisis for Skyrim - the Dragon Crisis. Alduin, fresh from his display of dominance at Helgen, scoured Skyrim for the bones of his kin and begun to raise them back to life. Dragons, not seen in such large numbers since the First Era, begin terrorising Skyrim and surrounding provinces at the command of Alduin. While Dragons can be killed, a Dragon’s soul remains tied to its corpse unless absorbed by another Dragon, or a Dragonborn. As the Divines would have it, one such Dragonborn emerged from the war-torn province on a personal quest to end the tyranny of Alduin before he could conquer Tamriel. The Dragonborn gathered a power, knowledge and a group of close companions on their quest. Many of which perished. Venturing into Aetherius itself, she struck out at Alduin and defeated the Dragon-God. Yet dragons remained, and Alduin had resurrected many of them before his defeat. Scattered to the corners of Tamriel and beyond, rumours of these Dragons spread until nobody could deny their return. It is also rumoured that some of Alduin's most trusted lieutenants were taught the secret of resurrecting dragons long since dead whose souls are ready to return.
4E 201 - The Dragonborn Conflict. Following the resurgence of Dragons, the Dragon Cult of old is reformed by the desperate, the power-hungry and the mad. The cult discovers ancient ruins on Solstheim that point towards another Dragonborn, Miraak, trapped in the Daedric realm of Apocrypha since the early First Era. Under Miraak’s guidance, they partially release him from his prison and they begin to subjugate the local Skaal population. The cult scours Skyrim for the Dragonborn that stopped Alduin in an attempt to kill her. The Dragonborn travels to Solstheim to find the source of the cult, and succeeds in freeing the Skaal from servitude and vanquishes Miraak. She disappears from records during these events. The Dragon Cult, leaderless once more, retreats into the shadows.
4E 201 - The Dragon Paarthunax with the help of the cult of Nordic tongues, the Greybeards, attempt to teach a minority of dragons the Way of the Voice. It is the hope of Paarthunax that he can help his siblings overcome their nature to dominate the mortal races, and perhaps live side-by-side with them as some of them once had.
4E 201 - The Blades, the personal guards of the Septim Empire, reform from the last known members who had found themselves hiding in the shadows of Skyrim. They are reinvigorated by the reappearance of the Dragons and their ancient Akaviri origin as the Dragon hunting ‘Dragonguard’. They begin recruiting highly skilled individuals from the masses of people who have had their lives changed or destroyed by the returned Dragons. Their presence, however, contravenes the White-Gold Concordat and puts them at odds with the Thalmor, the Empire and the Greybeards sworn to protect the Dragon Paarthunax.
4E 201 - The College of Winterhold finds itself embroiled in a Thalmor plot to steal an ancient artefact from Skyrim. The Thalmor agent in charge of monitoring the College kills the Arch-Mage of the college, only to be stopped by a Dunmer Refugee that had risen up the College’s ranks. The Dunmer is granted the title of Arch-Mage, and exiles the Thalmor from the College. The whereabouts of the artefact and its nature remain unknown to the wider community.
4E 201 - A series of werewolf attacks plagues the province of Skyrim. The ancient lycanthrope hunting order of the Silver Hand moves a large contingency into the province from High Rock to investigate. They find themselves hunted in return, triggering a shadow war that sees the Silver Hand almost extirpated from the region. Curiously the werewolf attacks die down, perhaps in fear of persecution. In unrelated news, the mercenary guild known as the Companions based in Whiterun changes leadership with the death of Kodlak Whitemane to a previously unknown Nordic man.
4E 201 - Local records of Riften note that the criminal underbelly becomes far more organised under new mysterious leadership, spreading its influence across the province and beyond. Jarl Maven Black-Briar seems content to ‘confine’ the situation.
4E 201 - A series of violent vampire attacks (including the annihilation of the local Vigilants of Stendarr) across the province triggers the reformation of an ancient vampire hunting group known as the Dawnguard. Formed from elements of the Vigilants, the Silver Hand and local heroes, the Dawnguard take up residence in their ancient home of Fort Dawnguard near Riften. The Volkihar Clan of vampires are found to be the main cause, and despite the death of their Lord Harkon, the shadow war stretches on to this day. A number of smaller forts are established across the province and in a desperate attempt to boost their Dawnguard are often allowed to recruit from local holds or conscript prisoners held by the Jarls.
4E 201 - The ebony mines of Raven Rock reopen after a crypt beneath the old mines is discovered to contain large deposits of the rare mineral. This triggers a resurge in prosperity for the city, and the return of Solstheim to the front of Morrowind’s political sphere. An attempt by Morag Tong agents hired by Disgraced House Hlaalu to assassinate Councillor Lleril Morvayn is thwarted, and the House is persecuted further on the mainland by House Redoran.
4E 201 - The Telvanni Mage Lord, Master Neloth, rebuilds the Telvanni settlement of Tel Mithryn. A number of mages visit Neloth in his attempt to understand the Ash Spawn, beings made entirely of Red Mountain’s ash and the Heart Stones that spread across the region during the Red Year. The threat of the Ash Spawn continues to grow, and the Telvanni are desperate to find a solution before their spread extends to other parts of mainland Morrowind.
4E 201 - Penitus Oculatus records show that the last known sanctuary of the Dark Brotherhood in the Empire is destroyed, killing many of its members. It is believed the Oculatus triggered the attack due to rumours of an assassination plot on Emperor Titus Mede II.
4E 201 - Emperor Titus Mede II is assassinated onboard his personal vessel, The Katariah, whilst making a visit to Solitude. The Elder Council chastises the Penitus Oculatus for failure in protecting the Emperor. A Councillor named Amaund Motierre is found dead soon after, although his connection to the events is unclear.

The Third Century - A New Emperor, the Present Day. {The Third Century:}
4E 202 - Following a period of deliberation by the Elder Council, Emperor Titus Mede II’s successor is chosen from his family. The young Emperor Attrebus Mede III is crowned Emperor of Tamriel, and begins his campaign to unify the provinces. Beginning in Skyrim, the Emperor offers amnesty to the Stormcloak Rebels. In return for service with the Legion under their own brigade, all crimes of treason would be omitted. These “Stormcloaks” serve the Legion along the border with the Dominion, showing them the real threat isn’t the Empire in Cyrodiil. While a significant number choose to accept the amnesty, a minority of rebels continue guerilla operations in Skyrim - but are treated as little more than bandits.
4E 202 - A moot of Skyrim’s Jarls declares Jarl Elisif the Fair as High Queen of Skyrim, the event is attended by the Emperor and a monument is erected in Solitude to High King Torygg, Emperor Titus Mede II and all those sons and daughters of Skyrim that gave their lives in the Civil War - a testament to the dangers of internal strife.
4E 203 - A collection of Breton, Orcish and Redguard explorers under the pay of an enigmatic Direnni Mage Lord set off from the Isle of Betony to sail west. They seek to re-chart the islands of Once-Yokuda, and dispel the centuries old myth that the islands are rising out of the sea.
4E 204 - After the return of Dragons to Tamriel, a resurgence in the worship of Akatosh has sprung up across the Empire and to a lesser extent Alduin in Skyrim. The Chantry of Akatosh has based itself out of the Cathedral of Akatosh in the city of Kvatch, Cyrodiil. The Defenders of Akatosh have re-established the ancient knightly Order of the Hour, who have rebuilt their old fortress south of the city. The Order was soon visited by a dragon, Nokkronpaal, that began to roost in the fortress. Nokkronpaal dispenses his wisdom to the Order in exchange for the tributes regularly brought to him by the pilgrims of Akatosh that visit the site.
4E 204 - During a tense moment of border conflict between the Kingdom of Daggerfall-Camlorn and the Kingdom of Northpoint, the Emperor stepped in to mediate the situation. Imperial power in the Kingdoms had weakened since the Oblivion Crisis. The relative calm of the region had produced an unusual level of peace for the Bretons, but the Great War had created a feeling of tension between the Kingdoms. The Empire pledged the support of three Legions for the region Seventh, Fourteenth and Sixteenth Legions. They would act as buffers for the Kingdoms against the Aldmeri, and provide manpower for dealing with the Imperial peace.
4E 205 - The Ra’nasta Uprising. The Khajiit of the Niben Valley begin a protracted guerilla war against the counties of Bravil and Leyawiin in an attempt to carve out their own kingdom. The Twelfth Legion is called in to suppress the uprising, although it initially struggles to root out the cause. The Khajiit are well equipped, supplied and informed of the Imperial movements, drawing out the conflict for months. The Aldmeri Dominion deny any knowledge of the uprising’s origin, and denounce the Khajiit publicly - although make no move to stop the flow of arms out of Anequina into the Niben Valley. General Auventus, in charge of the Twelfth Legion, decided upon a radical course of action to stop the Khajiit from succeeding in their goals. The Twelfth Legion march into Anequina and put to the sword any Ra’nasta supporting Khajiit. Auventus decided upon sacking the town of Altans, despite calls from the Empire to return back to Cyrodiil and outrage from the Khajiit and the Dominion. A Legionary Decurion took it upon himself to murder the General in his own tent, rather than have the Legion sack the town of Altans and trigger a second Great War. The Twelfth retreated, political disaster averted, and the Ra’nasta Uprising beaten into submission by the attempted purge. The Decurion was taken back to the city disgraced and in chains.
4E 206 - An expedition from Windhelm sets out on the months long journey to make contact with the island of Roscrea. After a short stop at the island of Bleakrock, the expedition sets off for Roscrea. It never returns.
4E 206 - The Grand Council of Morrowind begin a campaign to retake lands from Argonia. They meet resistance from the heavily entrenched Argonian forces. After calling upon the Empire for assistance, the Imperials send a expeditionary force under the command of the Ninth Legion. The Grand Council is disgruntled by the token support, but are assured by Emperor Attrebus Mede III that the Legions must be kept on reserve lest the Dominion strike again. The Dunmer don’t get far into reclaiming territory, pushing into the eastern parts of Deshaan and liberating the towns of Selfora and Silent Mire. The expeditionary force from the Ninth Legion sets up in the ancient fortress of Tal’Deic and begins rebuilding the structure. The offensive falters at the disastrous Siege of Stormhold, leaving the Shadowfen in Argonian hands.
4E 207 - A plague of pirates hammer the coasts of eastern Tamriel, from Solstheim to Khenarthi’s Roost. The upsurge in piracy is blamed on a new leader amongst the pirates of Cathnoquey, an island east of Tamriel. A ship of refugees from the island of Yneslea makes landfall in Morrowind, telling of the fall of the former Imperial colony to the mysterious Pirate King of the Padomaic. Tamrielic response is muted, with the Empire and Dominion fearing leaving their coastlines exposed by sending out an armed response to chase the pirates back into the Padomaic Ocean.
4E 209 - After 21 years the construction of Nova Orsinium is considered largely complete. The iron-clad fortifications are considered a marvel of the modern era, with designs intended to secure the Orcish hold in the region for many Eras to come - not a novel idea given it is the fifth attempt to do so. The Orcs, given the task of securing the wild Craglorn region for the Empire, give the local Goblin and Ogres tribes an ultimatum. Join with Orsinium, or perish. Many clans choose to accept, and true to the Orcish words many of those that don’t are driven from the region. Once again, Orsinium becomes home to tribes of Goblins and Ogres alongside Orcs. The unity of the Children of Malacath spurs the worship of him amongst the orcs of Nova Orsinium, putting them at odds with those in the Kingdom that worship the Imperial Divines. King Drubuk attempts to quell any potential conflict by promoting the mix of both religions in synchrony. It is through the teachings of Drubuk that the Orcs come to refer to Malacath as “the Orcish Divine”. An irony not lost on the Prince.
4E 210 - The out-of-season migration of the walking trees of Valenwood troubles the Green Wardens that monitor them. The trees move further south than usual, with one disastrously rooting itself on the southern cliffs of Grahtwood, which collapses under the weight and send the tree and the hundred Bosmer that called it home crashing into the sea. Scared and outraged, the Bosmer are quick to buy into the idea that the damage caused to the forest by the Imperials during the Great War is the root of the problem.
4E 211 - Present Day.
