In this thread, you can find the basic information about the factions in the fallout universe, separated by their specific locations. If you require more detailed explanations on factions, such as their history, all known NPC's associated with the faction, or other information not listed, we recommend you visit the Fallout Wikia Site, where nearly all of this information is taken from.
Leader: Mother Curie III
Holdings: Holy Light Monastery, Springvale, Capital Wasteland.
Type: Religious Cult
Interactions: Friendly
Brief Description: The Apostles of Holy Light believe that ghouls are the next step in human evolution, and that humans should not resist the transformation. They actively irradiate themselves with radiation traps in the Holy Light Monastery, and are known to irradiate any purified water they find and pass it out to travelers willing to accept it, although they no longer force it. They also pass out pamphlets to the nearby town of Megaton. While not hostile, there are unintelligent ghouls inside the church, including a Reaver and a Glowing One.
Leader: Elder Lyons
Holdings:
Type: Militaristic Quasi-Religious
Interactions: Friendly. Enclave and Super Mutant hostile.
Brief Description: The East Coast Brotherhood of Steel is a splinter faction of that on the west coast. It is currently the most powerful faction on the East Coast, and controls Project Purity, a group with the purpose of providing free purified water to the wastes. While mostly friendly to wastelanders, gaining access to the group itself requires rather draconian entry rules, save for those born into the faction. The group utilizes power armor for its individuals, and has access to Vertibirds, Laser and Plasma weaponry, and a large robot named Liberty Prime. They are in a constant battle with the Super Mutants of the Capital Wasteland, and are thus far in a stalemate with them.
Leader: Protector Casdin
Holdings:
Type: Militaristic Technological
Interactions: Neutral
Brief Description: The Brotherhood Outcasts are a splinter faction of the East Coast Brotherhood. Their belief is that Elder Lyons has lost the true purpose of the Brotherhood of Steel, and have defected. They are most identifiable as separate from the Brotherhood of Steel in that their armor is painted red and black. They hoard any technology they find, as well as repair and utilize robots for combat. While both the Brotherhood Outcasts and Brotherhood of Steel consider each other traitors, neither are openly hostile to the other as long as they remain unprovoked by the other group.
Leader: Unknown
Holdings: Unknown
Type: Militaristic Supremest
Interactions: Mostly Hostile
Brief Description: Once a powerful force on the East Coast in the Capital Wasteland, the Brotherhood of Steel has destroyed most of their holdings. Their technology is unmatched as they continue to further themselves, but their requirement of remaining 'pure'
has thinned their numbers greatly. With the appearance of highly trained squads in the Capital Wasteland after the destruction of Raven Rock, it is assumed the Enclave still operates well in other areas on the East Coast, most likely having a strong foothold in several states.
Leader: Sonora Cruz
Holdings: Regulator HQ (Old Shack), Capital Wasteland
Type: Vigilante Lawmen
Interactions: Friendly towards 'Good people'
Brief Description: The Regulators are a group of 'law-bringing' mercenaries who kill people who have done 'bad things.' Their main targets tend to be raiders, murderers, slavers and thieves, requiring their members to bring back their targets finger upon death. They tend to wear dusters and cowboy hats, with laser weaponry their preference. If a regulator deems an individual to be 'evil' they can even kill the person and bring their finger back for a much smaller cap reward, but pay nonetheless.
Leader: Reilly
Holdings: Ranger Compound, Seward Square, Capital Wasteland
Type: Mercenary Ranger/Explorer
Interactions: Friendly
Brief Description: While for all intents and purposes a mercenary group, Reilly's Rangers operates under a higher set of morals then other mercenaries. Luck seems to be a deciding theme for the group, represented by by the four leaf clover in their emblem. In addition to their mercenary activities, Reilly has also been mapping the Capital Wasteland and now sells detailed maps to those with the caps for them.
Leader: Commander Jabsco
Holdings: Fort Bannister, Capital Wasteland
Type: Mercenary
Interactions: Neutral/Hostile
Brief Description: Talon Company is a mercenary organization active in the Capital Wasteland. Doing various jobs, from bounty hunting to fighting against the super mutant occupiers of Washington, D.C.. Even as far as mercenaries go, these men and women are vicious, killing anyone that doesn't wear their emblem, similar to raiders. The reason for this is simple - they are working for an unknown third party, with simple orders - keep the Capital Wasteland a lawless, disorganized place.
Leader: Unknown
Holdings: Unknown
Type: Scientific
Interactions: Neutral
Brief Description: While little is actually known about The Institute, their technology and scientific progression rivals that of the Enclave, able to create artificially intelligent androids. They are located somewhere in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and are descendants of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Leader: Lord Ashur
Holdings: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Type: Raider / Slaver
Interactions: Hostile
Brief Description: The Pitt, a faction of the same name as the area they live in, are a group of raiders and slavers that also have their slaves produce steel and weapons. The largest group in Pennsylvania, and having successfully cured the Trogoldyte Degeneration Contagion, they have began sending raiding parties to the rest of Pennsylvania, enslaving or recruiting any and all people they find. They now pose a severe threat to the rest of the East Coast.
