Name: The Followers of the Aspects
Type of Faction: Religious Group
Leader: The Bicorn Reborn
Other Notable Figures: Gary North (Head of the Zealots of Freedom), Simon Graham (Head of the Zealots of the Charity), Andrew Draper (Head of the Zealots of Equality), Nieve O' Neil (Head of the Zealots of Truth), Basil Fletcher (Head of the Zealots of Community).
Weapon Types Used: Essentially, the Followers of the Aspects are a tribe of raiders banded together by religion, so they use whatever they can get their hands on. Numbers: Around 500, but growing rapidly.
Beliefs: The Followers of the Aspects believe that the earth was created by Terragaia, a mother like deity whose form and shape are unknown. Terragaia created the rest of the deities in the way she wanted the world to run the most pure and best for everyone. Each of these deities represents an "Aspect" of a good, pure life. Each Aspect has a group of "Zealots", who are the most commited to that Aspect and have arranged their lives around it by committing themselves to enforcing the rules of the Aspect. Every deity then went on to create a species that reflects their qualities. However, Terragaia had always been locked in a struggle between good and evil with her brother, Heresus, who for each aspect that Terragaia created, he created a Heresy, an opposite of that aspect. The Followers of the Aspects are commited to finding and wiping out those who practice in the heresies. Heresus, unlike Terragaia, is not immortal, but is in fact reborn in another body every time he dies. Some Followers of the Aspects believe that this is why he hates Terragaia, but that is not an established fact from the Bicorn reborn. The Followers of the Aspects believe that Heresus's most recent reincarnation was in the body of the High Minister Miriam Ahab, as she violates in some way (if not a fictional way) every single one of the Aspects, being the Ultimate Heresy, which is who Heresus is. It is also believed that in a time where a Heresy has taken over, a deity will be reborn into the world to free the animals on the planet from the Heresy. That is why in the UK wasteland, where most people are held in a dictatorship and are not free, the Bicorn (the deity of freedom) has been reborn to free the oppressed. It is believed that any of those who practice a Heresy are not worthy of the life given to them by Terragaia and should be killed. The following aspects and their heresies are the ones that the Followers of the Aspects follow, as they are the ones relevant to humans.
In reverse order of importance
The Aspect of Charity: The Aspect of charity says that if a person has too much money or food than they need, they should give their excess to those in need of it, and if someone is in need of help, you should help them, no matter what it is they need help with. The deity representing this aspect if the Gaolin, the biggest creature to ever walk (or fly across) the earth. He stood at 124 feet tall, with a wingspan of 500 feet. His appearance is similar to that of a gigantic hairless bat, except he had three wings, the third one being not of much use, and he had an arm protruding from his chest. The Gaolin went around the world, helping all he could with his tremendous strength and power. This all ended when he came across the Heresy of Charity, the Boarath. The Boarath was an immense pile of flesh, whose head was just about visible under the fat all around its body. It had no limbs. This caused the Gaolin to help it, as it was unable to gather its own food. However, no matter the amount of food the Gaolin brought to the Boarath, it was not satisfied, and always demanded more. Eventually, the Boarath demanded that the Gaolin allowed itself to be eaten bit by bit by the Boarath. Due to the Gaolin's helping nature, he reluctantly accepted, and he cut off his third wing. When the Boarath had eaten the wing, he demanded another wing, and another, until eventually, all of the Gaolin's limbs were gone, and he was just a head with a torso. Finally, as the Gaolin watched his life's blood ebb away, he died, and unfortunately for the Boarath, his body turned into a huge swarm of Mega and Minor Bats, common in the UK wasteland. The Zealots of Charity make sure that everyone gets what they need, and if someone is refusing to give their food and money to those who need it, the Zealots of Charity "encourage" them to do so. The Zealots of Charity also give all of their money to those in need and most of their food, and as a result of this it is by far the least popular zealot group. It is believed that Miriam Ahab has violated Charity by never giving out any food or money to any of her subjects. Ahab also takes in vast quantities of wine and gifts from those who want to be in good favour to her, yet she never gives any out to those who actually need it.
Zealots of Charity Uniform: The Zealots of Charity wear anything they can find, usually just a piece of cloth wrapped around their body. There is no specific uniform for the Zealots of Charity although each Zealot of Charity will have a self-domesticated minor bat.
The Aspect of Community: The Aspect of Community says that unfortunately, humans are not able to function properly on our own, and therefore rely on the help of other humans for us. To allow the community to function, all humans must work together and not fall out with each other, as it will disrupt the community. The Aspect of community also says that for the community to work properly, they have to follow certain generic laws (i.e. Don't Steal, Don't Murder etc.). The deity of community is the Brechon, another gigantic creature, yet no-where near as large as the Gaolin, standing at roughly 27 feet tall at its maximum height. The Brechon has no fixed shape, and is made up entirely out of tiny formless individual creatures with their own individual brains. These tiny creatures worked so well as a community that they thought as one, even though they were all individual creatures. This allowed the Brechon to move and do things that other creatures couldn't. The Heresy of Community, the Ornis, a small, worm like creature with no features at all except a mouth, became jealous of his powers. The Ornis set to work at turning the creatures against each other, spinning elaborate tales about to the tiny animals about what the other tiny animals said about them. Due to the individual animal's lack of intelligence, they believe the Ornis, no longer being able to function together as a community. It is in this way that the Brechon as a single entity died. However, some of the creatures saw past the Ornis's tricks and stayed together. When the Brechon died, they kept together and flocked away from the rest of the tiny animals. They took on the form of tiny ants, and became the Swarmer ants found in the UK wasteland. The Zealots of Community work as the law enforcement for the Followers of the Aspects, making sure that they function well together as a community. The Zealots of Community try not to use force to enforce the law, but they have been known to do so often. Because High Minister Ahab doesn't actually violate community in any way, the Bicorn Reborn had to come up with a way in which she violates it, spreading rumours such as "she splits apart friendships by executing half of the friends", and "she makes people work alone to watch them struggle and die".
Zealots of Community Uniform: The Zealots of Community always wear some kind of armour, usually a light leather so they can run. This is because they are law enforcers and need to be protected. The Zealots of Community can be told apart from the rest of the armoured people by their shoulders, which will have an image of a giant swarmer ant on it.
The Aspect of Truth: The Aspect of Truth says that it is necessary for humans to tell the truth, because if people lie, then society will never be able to advance if everyone lies. The Aspect of Truth also says that any information you have that you think is important should be shared with everyone else so they can learn. The deity of truth is the Dreith. The Dreith is a very small creature that is pretty much just a blob of flesh on legs with a mouth. However, although it doesn't look like much, the Dreith is one of the most powerful deities, second only to Terragaia herself. The Dreith was able to manipulate his surroundings to suit his needs. He did not need to eat or drink, as his powers provided enough nourishment for him. His powers also made him very wise, and the other deities would go to him for his wisdom and guidance. The Dreith always told the truth, and as such all those he spoke to told the truth. So far as the Dreith knew, everyone told the truth, and he trusted everyone immensely. The Dreith is sometimes also called the Aspect of Trust, as he trusted everyone. The Heresy of Truth, the Humape, a humanoid creature who stood at around 6 feet tall, took advantage of the Dreith's ignorance about lies, and told the Dreith that every deity on the planet would die if the Dreith did not transfer all his powers to the Humape at that very second. The Dreith trusted him and immediately blessed the Humape with his powers. The Dreith died shortly afterwards, as without its powers it was not able to feed itself. The Humape lived on, and created his creatures in his own image. He created humans, the only animals on the planet thought to lie. He also blessed us with the intelligence he got from the Dreith, meaning we could be just as powerful as he once was. The Zealots of Truth act as the interrogators and torturers, getting the truth from other people who have been cursed with the ability to lie. Only the most sadistic people are allowed to become Zealots of Truth as more often than not torture is required to get the whole truth from people. High Minister Ahab violates the Aspect of Truth by constantly lying to her citizens. It is believed that she lied her way into power and she lies to keep herself in power, and it's only her charisma (granted to her by the Humape) that stops her lies from being unraveled.
Zealots of Truth Uniform: The Zealots of Truth wear long robes that cover their entire bodies, because the Zealots of truth often whip or cut themselves all over their bodies to punish themselves for being descended from the Humape and being responsible for the death of the Dreith. Usually their head is uncovered just as a sign of respect.
The Aspect of Freedom: The Aspect of Freedom applies to all creatures, not just humans, and because of this it is the second most important Aspect. The Aspect of Freedom simply says that all creatures are free, and should never have that freedom taken away from them. The deity of Freedom is the Bicorn, an over-sized goat with enormous horns and two heads. It had plain grey fur. The Bicorn was not born with two heads, but it was born the most free any animal can ever be. It was so free, in fact, that it could change the environment and itself whenever it wanted. Because of this freedom, when it decided it wanted a second head, it simply grew another one. The Bicorn is also the only creature to have bested its Heresy, the Satyr. The Satyr is almost exactly the same as the satyrs from Greek mythology, except it was huge, standing at 50 feet tall, dwarfing the Bicorn. The Satyr was a slaver, and he captured the Bicorn by luring it into a cage, but as soon as the door was shut behind the Bicorn and it became trapped, it decided to grow to 200 feet tall, destroying its cage, and then it decided to punish the Satyr for its actions by stepping on it, reducing the Satyr to no more than a smudge on the ground. Suddenly, the Bicorn became completely pure, its fur turning the purest of whites and its soul being cleansed of any Heresy permanently. Free from any Heresy, the Bicorn went on to create its descendants in its own image, creating the mountain goat commonly found in the UK wasteland. Mountain Goats are the most free creatures alive, as they belong to no-one and are able to eat anything. Zealots of Freedom are just warriors who specialize in freeing people. It's fairly obvious how Miriam Ahab violates Freedom, as all her subjects are completely under her control and are far from free, often being forced to work to death.
Zealots of Freedom Uniform: The Zealots of Freedom will always wear giant goat horns on their heads whilst running into battle as a sign of respect for the Bicorn. This usually causes terror in the enemy as from afar the Zealots of Freedom do not look like humans. The Zealots of Freedom also wear white fur overcoats over their armour, again as a sign of respect for the Bicorn.
The Aspect of Equality: The Aspect of Equality, like the Aspect of Freedom, applies to all creatures, and generally goes hand in hand with freedom. The Aspect of Equality basically says that every creature has an equal right to life, so no creature should be killed unless you are prepared to use all of the creature, so you would be allowed to eat it, but you must not waste any of it. The deity of equality is Terragaia, who created all creatures on Earth equal. Ever since the beginning of time, Terragaia has existed. She created the Earth and all the deities on it. However, Heresus, her brother, was always evil, and for every good thing that Terragaia did, he would do something equally evil, such as create all the heresies for all of the deities. Terragaia is still in this struggle, and it is believed that if Heresus is killed enough times, he will die permanently, so Terragaia tells her followers to hunt down and kill Heresus whenever he is reborn. The Zealots of Equality are much like the Zealots of Freedom, as they fight for what they believe is right, killing any who refuse equality. The Zealots of Equality are very popular with ghouls, and 70% of all the Zealots of Equality are ghouls, trying to kill Ahab for what she does to ghouls. The Zealots of Equality also are vegetarians, believing that it is not fair to kill an animal to just to eat it. Ahab violates Equality by hating ghouls and ordering any ghoul to be hunted down and killed, even the ones that aren't feral.
Zealots of Equality Uniform: The Zealots of Equality have no set uniform.
History: I won't go into the history in much depth, as I will do that when I create the Bicorn Reborn character. When the religion was first created by Graham Keaveny (who would later be known as the Bicorn Reborn), it did not include the Aspect of Equality or the Aspect of Community, so it was a lawless society that did not believe that all life was equal. It grew quickly as it matched with the raiders' belief that all should be free. Because of the lawlessness of the religion, sacrifices to the deities for help were common. This wasn't too bad, until because there was no law, humans were being murdered as even bigger sacrifices. This went on until someone thought it would be a good idea to sacrifice the Bicorn Reborn to Terragaia, the mother deity. As religion consumed the town where Graham lived, he had to flee with his five most trusted friends who would later become the leaders of the Zealot groups. After wandering the wastes, scavenging supplies for a few years, Graham decided to make another religion, but this time it included the Aspects of Equality and community to stop the same thing from happening as last time. Again, it grew in popularity due to the ideas of freedom until it was big enough to take over the town which Graham had left, killing all those who had first tainted the religion so they would not be able to speak against the new one. The religion is still now expanding, occasionally taking over entire towns, those disagreeing with the religion's beliefs occasionally being framed as Heretics and being forced to convert on pain of death, but most wastelanders like having something to discipline them and the fact that resources from the community are pooled and given to those in need appeals to most wastelanders as it will mean they don't go hungry.
Animals I Have Introduced to the UK in This Post:
Mega and Minor Bats: The bats of the UK have mutated from the radiation, becoming much larger, the more common minor bats standing at around 2 feet tall, but major bats, often found in heavily bombed areas, have mutated even more and can occasionally stand at 4 feet tall (though this is very rare). Minor bats are mainly found in bombed forests and caves, but major bats can be found all over the UK, though very uncommon. Both form of bats' eyes have disappeared, skin growing over them, but they were never needed anyway. Their claws are huge and razor sharp, and are used to crack open the shells of insects like radroaches, but are also used to kill small animals. Humans only become a target for the bats when there is no other food, and even then the minor bats will only go for those small or weak like children. Mega bats have been known to go for adult humans, but an adult is still a challenge even for the largest mega bat, they would rather just hunt some deer or attack a group of children. The bats' ears, although over-sized before mutation, are now enormous, standing double the height of the head. The ears are needed to track animals down from great distances, and it's not uncommon for a mega bat to hunt something down from five miles away. They are generally black, but albino bats are not uncommon. Minor bats are much tamer than mega bats, and can therefore be tamed, but major bats are feral and attack any humans on sight.
Swarmer Ants: Swarmer ants are over-sized ants, becoming the size of modern day mice. They live and feed in hundreds, each ant working as a part of a group then as an individual, as if hundreds of ants all have the same mind linking them. They feed on sweet things, and are often found near pre-war sweet factories and shops, but failing that they will eat any plant life they can find and feed off the glucose stored in them. Swarmer ants produce a very sweet smelling liquid as a bi-product which is secreted in their nests after digestion. This liquid is often used in Wasteland perfume manufacturing, but it can also be fermented to form an alcohol, or it can be consumed as a kind of wasteland honey. Unfortunately, though, the liquid is kept deep in their nests, which house thousands of ants, and when the nest is attacked, the ants swarm the attackers (that's where they get their name from), each ant able to rip off and consume sizable amounts of flesh. As a result of this, Swarmer Ant perfume is very expensive because of the risk involved in harvesting the liquid. Swarmer ants are found UK-wide on their scavenging hunts, but their nests are found few and far between.
Mountain Goats: Common in the highlands, the mountain goat is truly one of nature's hardiest creatures. Because they live up in the mountains, mountain goats mainly escaped the effects of radiation, yet mutations do show. The goats have two forked tongues, and their digestive system has become incredibly tough to survive the nuclear winter, and they can now pretty much digest anything, even if it has no nutrients in it. The goats' pupils also are no longer landscape, but are now vertical. Mountain goats, as the name suggests, are only found in mountains.
