Personality: Lucia isn’t an evil woman, though that isn’t to say she’s innocent. Lucia is a woman driven by her obsession to revive the love of her life. She will do absolutely anything to get him back, and sod the consequences to her. She doesn’t want revenge, as it won’t bring her husband back, so she has never sought it, in fact, she cares very little for the person who killed him. She doesn’t believe she’s a good person anymore and her actions to revive her victims into the wooden golem bodies are purely driven by guilt. She believes that guilt is the only thing stopping her from surrendering completely to darkness… Well that and hope. She hopes she can eventually find a way to revive her husband… And then maybe then she can undo all her mistakes over the years. She mentally punishes herself for her acts.
This desire to undo her mistakes is opposed by the darkness within her. Her desire for her husband, and the corrupting influence of the Daedric Princes, has left her soul tainted. She sometimes feels compelled to kill, and gain herself a new body for her husband. When this happens, she acts somewhat logical, but primarily she works off instinct. When she needs to defend herself she is quick to act.
On the outside, she’ll seem to be “nice as pie” and will appear caring, and worried, which she genuinely is.. .somewhat,. She does this act mostly because she wants to keep the woodsmen calm, so that their life with her isn't as hard as it could be.
Lucia had been a young, pretty thing back in the day, hidden away in a Synod branch within Leyawiin. She was a promising student, who seemed to have a natural talent in mysticism, but was far too curious for her own good, but a good student all the same. She saw a bright and hopeful view of soul stones, she saw the preservation of the soul, and believed that it was, in a way, a kind of immortality. Although her teachers tried to dissuade her from this view, it never really worked, even if she pretended that she understood. At this young age, she also pondered on the potential of soul trapping. She wondered if it could work on human, but because of the illegality of the issue, she avoided the topic with her teachers… even then she continued to do theoretical research in private.
Throughout her young life, she honed her skills, spreading into the school of Thaumaturgy and becoming quite skilful in telekinesis, so much so she was able to use it in combat. She made her living working under the masters at the Synod school.
She had been visiting the Imperial city when she stumbled, quite literally, onto a city guard. Petrus Siluanus was his name. An imperial right out of fairy tales, at least that’s what Lucia believed. It wasn’t exactly love at first sight for her, it was more… enamoured at sight. Petrus took her hand,, and immediately helped her up. He even apologised, which was a lot for city guards. He even led her to the place she needed to go. He disregarded orders, or just plain forgot about them, as he gave her a tour of the city. After she’d left, Petrus swore his commander just let him off without a scolding, but Lucia knew different... she let him live the lie though. Soon enough Lucia began spending more and more time in the Imperial City, than back home at the Mages School, and it was clear the romance between Petrus and Lucia wasn’t going to end, and so Lucia left the academy.
Within the month, Petrus and Lucia were wed. They had their home, small, quaint and out of the way. The plan was for Petrus to gain rank in the city guard, and for Lucia to start her own magic shop in the city. But like most plans, they don’t all go accordingly. Lucia’s plan turned sour the evening after their wedding.
Petrus, being the dutiful city guard that he was, went back to work immediately after the wedding. Lucia, though she wasn’t initially too keen on the idea, decided to meet him after his patrols were over and walk home with him. So she waited, by the barracks, and eventually out he came, dressed in his civilian clothing. Together they walked home, laughing and giggling, just like a young married couple… But out of nowhere, a person jumped out of a shop nearby, Lucia wasn’t sure which one, all she heard was a screamed “thief!” Petrus snapped into action, an instinct from his career and charged the thief. Petrus must’ve forgotten he was unarmoured, because when the thief stabbed him through the gut with a dagger, he barely even flinched. He toppled over with the thief, who immediately squirmed from under Petrus and vanished down an alley. Lucia raced to her husband’s side, collapsing next to him as she attempted to save him. She cursed herself for not following the restoration route, so all she could do was to put pressure on the wounds. By the time the actual restoration mages came, it was too late to save him. All they could do was to make his passing peaceful. So they took him to a nearby temple, and forced him to drink as much alcohol as possible, to remove the pain.
In her horror of losing her loved one, she thought back to her research. She was told he couldn’t be saved, but she knew that was a lie. At least, she thought it was a lie. Lucia raced home, grabbing her research and an empty soul gem. She had done the same spell with animals, so she figured that if she tried harder, she could do the same with a man.
She marched on the temple, and barged her way through. She quickly took out the priestess by whacking her over the head with a chair thrown with telekinesis.
A few hours later, Lucia was gone, her husband was dead. Lucia was never seen again in the city. Some believed she threw herself off the wall, some believe she ran away. At around this time, though no one put two and two together, a witch appeared in the Great Forest. She was only ever spotted a few times, moving through the trees and she never seemed hostile, so most just ignored her and left her to her own devices.
In reality this witch was Lucia, living her life in exile, researching the darker arts of mysticism. In exile she planned to bring her husband back from the “dead”, though in her mind he wasn’t dead, for he was trapped in a black soul gem.
At first she planned to craft Petrus a body born of magic, but unfortunately she could never figure out how she would even craft such a thing. Over time she approached many a cult, researching any option that could help her. Years past and she got nowhere. So Lucia decided to approach Merida. She’d ruled out the Ideal Masters, knowing that they wouldn’t have given her, her husband back. They’d have given her his corpse… So she believed Merida would be the best option.
Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. When approached, Merida’s followers were horrified to find out that Lucia was powerful enough to trap a man’s soul, knowing what dark magic would’ve gone into that act. They did consult with Merida, just to make sure nothing could be done. Merida, however, was offended that Lucia had corrupted her grounds with her dark magic, and ordered her followers to kill the witch and free Lucia’s husband’s soul. When Lucia figured out what Merida had ordered, Lucia began to fight. She had respect for Merida, but she didn’t want to die at her hands, and so she fought against Merida’s followers and escaped. Lucia spent the next year evading Merida’s followers. Every now and then she’d run into them and would have to fight for her life.
With the option of Merida’s help, out of the window, Lucia was tempted to seek help from darker hands. Though he wasn’t Lucia’s first choice, Molag Bal proved to be something of an eye opener. When she approached his cult, they initially tried to attack her, but she defended herself well, and eventually gained audience with the cult leader. The cult leader, recognised her power, and decided to convert her to Molag Bal’s way, thus gaining reputation with the prince, and spreading his power. So the cult leader introduced her to Molag Bal, and both revealed that she had the power to bring her husband back… All she needed to do was to take the bodies of men by force. At first, the cult helped her with her experiments. She aimed to replace the heart, with the soul gem, with a plan to reanimate the body with the new soul gem heart. It looked promising and Lucia was grateful, even if the first attempts didn’t work. After a while, she began to almost worship the Daedric Prince. Her desire to revive her husband grew and grew, until she barely thought about killing to save her husband.
She didn’t know when it happened, but soon enough she realised she had killed around twenty people. When she realised she fled the cult with her husband’s gem. She could almost sense Molag Bal’s clutch on her soul, and though she knew the taint would last forever, she couldn’t bear to be in the presence of the cult anymore.
She fled home, returning to the Great Forest. There she found an abandoned shack and chose to live out her days in solitude. She prayed to Merida and a whole host of other gods and goddesses for strength to resist the taint on her soul, and for a couple of years it worked. She didn’t see anyone; she lived quietly and fended off any creature that got too curious. Everything was nice… Or at least as nice as life was without her husband.
In some sort of divine punishment, or test, Lucia stumbled upon a wounded man in the forest one day. He pleaded for her help, when she turned to leave. Unable to say no, Lucia went to the man and took him to her cabin. There she tended to his wounds, although he spent the next few days asleep and defenceless. All the while, Lucia watched over him. As time went on, the temptation rose up within her, the taint reared it’s ugly head. She struggled for a day or so, but then gave into weakness. For her husband, or at least that’s what she told herself, she removed the man’s soul, placing it in a black soul gem and attempted to infuse the soul of her husband’s into her victim’s body. For a split second, her husband was awake, he stared around, and then he was dead again. She returned his soul back to his soul gem and buried the corpse.
She gave into temptation again over the months to come, and each time she would get a glimpse of her husband. Soon enough she had six black soul gems filled with the souls of people she had killed. So the battle of morality verses corruption raged in her very soul. She wanted her husband, but she felt remorse for killing so many. In her darkness, she came up with a plan. She’d take the bodies, like normal, but she would produce a temporary body for those she had killed. So she set upon crafting a new body with the soul gem heart. She took inspiration from the spriggans in the forest, when crafting the bodies, knowing that she could replace the bodies and upgrade them, so she knew her crafting skills didn’t need to be wonderful right away.
The first wooden bodies were simplistic at best, arms and legs, and a featureless face. After a few months, she managed to give them basic features, hands and joints, enabling them to move. She attempted to give them a more “human” form. In some sort of celestial irony, the bodies she’d made for her victims sprung to life after much work was put into crafting them. Her victims, although confused at first, eventually grew to “understand” their situation. Lucia told that she had rescued them from life threatening situations and that she had did all she could to save them. This wasn’t the truth… But they weren’t to know, were they? Some chose to return home, never to be seen again. Some tried to go home, but after being mistaken for spriggans returned to Lucia. Some never left. Not knowing what to do, Lucia resigned to allow them to stay. Together they built a small little hamlet around her shack. The community though small, was for the large part, hidden away.
Every now and then, more woodsmen would arrive in the community, due to the actions of Lucia. Lucia had gotten a lot smarter in her deception over the years. She began using her telekinesis to set up accidents, which would then mortally would the victim. She used this technique in a variety of ways, but the results would remain the same and a woodsman would wake up in Lucia’s hamlet.
