- {MagLev trains, - Click to Expand}
Several long-distance rapid transit MagLev Trains run throughout the Myriad's interior surface. These Trains run horizontal from bow to stern, servicing each deck of the vessel. The Trains stop at various stations across the way, many of which are Elevator stations where cargo (in the form of MagLev Train Carts) are lowered up and down the various levels of the ship. Smaller stations are for personelle use only, and are more common on the decks of the vessel where the crew spend the majority of their time. MagLev services are sharp and on time, running in both directions on the tracks and turning around at intersections at various points on the tracks. Constant updates for the MagLev schedule are provided at the stations, and a Marine can catch a ride from bow to stern in no less than half an Earth-time Hour. - {Hydroponic Department, - Click to Expand}
'Hydroponics' is the process of growing plants in a nutrient solution without soil. Hydroponics have allowed spacecraft the ability to supply themselves in long-distance voyages for centuries, however the Hydroponics Department of the UNSC Myriad is particularly large and well constructed as it must supply the Myriad and its accompanying fleet indefinately should supply links be broken with the core regions - which it often is. The Hydroponics Department of the Myriad is also known for its groundbreaking fungal department - where 'meat-like' fungi are grown and 'meat-tasting' products are created. As well as providing the Myriad with food, the staff of the Hydroponics bay also provide landscapers for the Memorial Park and hundreds of different plants that help decorate the Myriad and make it more pleasing for the crew. The Hydroponics Bay also provide crew with the opportunity to grow their own plants, giving out basic kits that are enough to grow simple vegetables, berries, fruits or flowers - to supplement the food rations or beautify their quarters. Although seeds are only provided by the Hydroponics Bay, imports are not allowed on board. - {Research and Development Department, - Click to Expand}
The Myriad Research and Development Department is responsible for all the xenoarchaelogy, microbiology, astrophysics and xenoengineering (to name but a few) work that goes on in the Myriad. While the Myriad is outfitted for war, potential new discoveries can never be missed so the Myriad maintains a staffing of science crew - and often goes out of its way to get the egg-heads what they want. The R&D group is also responsible for coming up with improvements to standard manufacturing practices on the Myriad, and improved calibrations for weapons and ship-born armaments. - {Armouries, - Click to Expand}
The Armouries of the Myriad are many and each well-stocked. Weaponry is something that isn't lost to the Myriad, and with a constant supply of weapons and armour from the Manufacturing plants the Armouries are never lacking in just what you need. While each Marine is granted, as standard, training in a set number of weapons it is the Myriad Armoury Services' goal to train the Marines, ODSTs and SPARTANs in whatever weapons they want or require. A well-trained Marine is a well-performing Marine. From M45D/Tactical Shotgun to the NA4 Flamethrower and the M379 Light Machine Gun - the Myriad has it all. - {Frigate Bays, - Click to Expand}
Two Frigate Bays line the underside of the Myriad, at Bow and Stern. Both bays take up the majority of several levels of the Myriad's body and each houses four Stridentt-class Heavy Frigates and one Paris-class Heavy Frigate. The Frigates are docked independantly of each other in cages constructed of reinforced glass and reverse-engineered Covenant forcefields. The glass covers the left, right and reverse sections of the cage while the roof and forward sections are the Myriad's internal metal structure. The base of the cages are protected from the void of space by reverse-engineered forcefields and thick Titanium-A3 blastdoors. Essentially the frigates, when staffed and prepared using the retractable walkways, are lowered from the cages through the forcefields and out into the 'underbelly' of the Myriad, a section of the Myriad still defended by the external Titanium-A3 armour, but capable of opening to the void of space. Most of the Hangers and Cargo Bays are also located in this heavily defended underbelly. - {Destroyer Bays, - Click to Expand}
As well as the larger Frigate Bays, the Myriad also has two Destroyer Bays for the smaller Medusa-class Heavy Destroyers. They bays are constructed exactly like the Frigate Bays, but are staffed and outfitted to maintain the much heavier, much more densely constructed Destroyers. While Frigates are faster than Destroyers, Destroyers have Titanium-A armour twice as thick as a Frigate, and two Magnetic Accelerator Cannon over the Frigate's singular. Destroyers also lack the storage capacity of the Frigates - they make terrible troop transports and are designed to simply escort larger Capital ships. - {Cargo Bays, - Click to Expand}
The Myriad is home to two dozen small - large cargo bays, capable of housing all but the largest (carrier-class sized) freighters. The two largest of these cargo bays, when not scheduled to recieve cargo from a suitably sized freighter, can be found housing the fleet's accompanying Springhill-class Mining Vessels unless they're out on deployment. Each of these bays are linked to a warehouse, and an army of trucks and forklifts serve both bay and warehouses. From the Myriad cargo is also distributed to all accompanying vessels, so the cargo bays are more or less the heart of the fleet - with the MagLev trains serving them as it's arteries. - {Command Bridge, - Click to Expand}
The Myriad's Command Bridge is simply massive. The bridge itself is split into three sections: War Systems , Engines and Command.
War Systems is where crew members, dumb AI and the ship's Smart AI constantly read information coming from the Weapons Bay. It is their job to instruct Weapons Bay on calibrating and upkeeping their weapons. It is also the job of War Systems to maintain shield output and run electronic countermeasure systems. Command for War Systems is internal, although important decisions or problems that require special authority go direct to Command Section. They are otherwise left to handle the situation as they are trained.
Engines are by far the most automated section of command, due to the alien nature of the XR2 Borlin Fields: S81/X-DFR that powers the ship: it is largely run by the ship's Smart AI with Dumb AI assistance. Although the men and women of Engines Control keep an eye on the situation and relay information to the Command Section - and back to the AI that run the Engines and the staff that maintain them.
Command is the third and most important section of the Command Bridge. And also the smallest. Command is where the Captain and his XO give special commands to the ship and all it's sections. Here they also communicate directly with the Smart AI and instruct it. Direct links are also to the Communications Station, who process commands and filter them through the ranks. Command is also home to the HIGHCOM Representative and other high ranking officers from the Navy, Marines, ODSTs and SPARTANs - forming a council of sorts for the running of the ship during special circumstances, like combat. - {Hangars, - Click to Expand}
Hangers are many upon the Myriad, and come in four forms.
First are the Ground Deployment Hangers, where Pelicans andVultures are kept hot and ready for launch with accompanying Marine, ODST and SPARTAN payloads. Shortswords and Sparrowhawks are also deployed from these hangers, although it is preferable to deploy them within orbit.
The second are Ordnance Deployment Hangers, which are generally larger and connected to the Cargo Warehouses and the Manufactory Level. The ODH houses the Albatross, Pods and run the Darter Delivery System (a combination of Pilots and Dumb AI that deliver cargo to ground forces using the D82-EST Darters).
Third are the Emergency Extraction Transport Hangers, EETs tend to be AirCare Ambulances however they are also equipped to take Pelicans in emergency situations. These Hangers are fully staffed as emergency med bays, including surgical and diagnostic equipment that can be used before the patient is transferred over to the Med Bay.
The fourth and final hangers are the most important in ship-ship combat. These hangers house racks of F41 'Broadswords' and the older YSS-1000 'Sabres'. These Starfighters are well maintained and regular training exercises are run in coordination with the carriers accompanying the Myriad. A number of these hangers also house Open Frame 92/Extra-Vehicular Activity 'Booster Frames' for special SPARTAN Ops.
There is a fifth type of hanger, although the Infinity only four of them. These specialised Hangers are open directly to the void of space, much like the Frigate Bays, and are used to house the two Sahara-class Heavy Prowlers that accompany the Infinity and two spare hangers. - {Crew Quarters, - Click to Expand}
The Myriad has more than enough crew quarters to house the fourty to fifty thousand crew, Marines, ODSTs and SPARTANs that call the ship home. There is spare room, in fact, due to the need to rescue or house individuals from certain situations or from their escort fleet. Each Crew Quarter is fully fitted with cafeteria, showering blocks, cryo-chambers, bunks, changing rooms, fitness gyms and 'relaxation zones' of many flavours. Chapels to various faiths are also provided. Crew Quarters are also located within close proximity to the Armouries and are linked directly to the Med Bay, Observation Deck and War Games Simulation Deck. There is nothing a member of the Myriad's crew could want that isn't somewhere in her Crew Quarters.
Each member of the Myriad's crew get their own bunk, however bunkrooms are shared by four individuals of the same sex and the quality is determined by rank. NCO and low-rank Officer bunkrooms are comparatively large considering the amount of space required by UNSC regulations. Each of the four members of crew are granted adequate personal space, including a fold-down desk over their bunk with inbuilt personal computers. The Enlisted bunkrooms are much smaller, but their platoon living spaces are far larger and more appropriately outfitted. Of course Officers are granted singular bunks in their own bunkrooms, lavishly decorated and exceedingly comfortable. Albeit lonely, compared to the NCO or Enlisted bunkrooms. - {War Games Simulation Deck, - Click to Expand}
Spurred on by the success of the 'War Games' Simulations run by the UNSC Infinity and its successors, the Myriad has dediacted an entire deck to the running of these War Games. Simulation pods arranged into rooms, typically 12 to a room, which are linked to each other and the War Games Server.
Typical Fireteam combat simulations put six marines on six other marines, utilising a dynamically generated location based upon surveys of real planets, locations and even recountings or footage of Forerunner and Covenant installations. The simulation's purpose is to be as lifelike as possible, down to individuals experiencing pain as a deterrence to getting injured during the simulation. UNSC, Covenant and even Promethean weaponry have been input into the simulations, allowing Marines, ODSTs and SPARTANs to get a feel for all types of armaments.
Larger War Games are possible, and it is entirely possible to link all the War Games Simulators together in the War Games Server - allowing for grand engagements to be played out. In such large scale simulations, vehicles are also included although a real world understanding of the driving method is required.
The Myriad plays host to an improved service of the War Games. Not only are the War Games for crew on crew training, it is possible to engage A.I. Controlled foes. Typical Human, Covenant and even Promethean tactics have been input into the A.I., allowing for lifelike engagements against possible real world foes. There is also a running beta, designed by the R&D Department (specifically the 'Myriad Foundry' division), which allows Pilots to simulate in-atmosphere and non-atmosphere engagements. The R&D Department wishes to integrate both standard ground Simulations and this newer Pilot Simulation into one seamless battle from Space to Ground. Currently the alpha build is also inclusive of frigate-sized vessels. - {Observation Deck, - Click to Expand}
The Myriad's Observation Deck sits directly above the War Games Simulation Deck. From the Observation Deck, the crew members can not only relax and watch (and interact with) screens of current War Games Simulations but they also get to do so amongst the stars. For along the walls of the Observation Deck there are windows into the space around the Infinity. Stars, planets, nebulae, even the other vessels in the Myriad's fleet. While these windows are made of glass, they are in fact just screens that show live-feed footage taken by extremely high definition cameras on the hull of the Myriad.These cameras also serve as the 'eyes' of the Captain, his Crew and the A.I. that serve the vessel. The observation deck is a typical relaxation and meditation spot for the crew of the Myriad, and even the crews of her accompanying fleet stop over for a chance to see the stars in the splendour the Myriad provides. - {Memorial Park, - Click to Expand}
Memorial Park is located deep within the bowels of the Myriad, surrounded by the Observation Deck and War Games Simulation Deck above and Crew Quarters all around it or linked to it. Truly the park is the spiritual heart of the Myriad's crew. A lot of UNSC money went into creating this living, breathing, green space. At the centre of which is a proud memorial - a UNSC Marine stood atop a rocky outcrop, saluting to the clouds - to all the fallen UNSC personnel of years gone by. Many notable names are inscribed upon it dating right back to the First Covenant War. A special epitaph details any Myriad crewmen to have fallen in service to the ship.
A portion of the ship's spent air is filtered by the genetically enhanced living vegetation in this park. Trees grow tall, some even bearing fruits, and the soul is real and covered in lush - well maintained - grass. The park is serviced by a dedicated crew of landscapers and the center of the vast green space is even home to a small lake - stocked with a real aquatic ecosystem. Authentic picnic grounds surround the lake, with piers that are a favourite for watching the fish. Although fishing is prohibited.
As the water teams with life so does the surrounding park, real breeding bird colonies exist in the trees as do squirrels and a warren of rabbits. Hunting these animals is also prohibited, although occasionally a cull is performed by the groundskeepers and any salvageable food is sent to the kitchens. Yet the most spectacular thing about this park is the realistic sky. A dome shaped structure of image screens portrays a blue sky with moving cloud formations and even an artificial sun. But as 'night time' falls (and truly the only night aboard this vessel) the screens fade to a sunset, and then a full live-feed view from the 'top' of the infinity, giving the chance of staring up into space as the Myriad passes through it.
As part of the Memorial Park facility is an accompanying Museum, including a full staff of historians. The Museum focuses on the history of the UNSC, its personnel, weaponry and vehicles. Notable displays include 'The MA5 Series - A Marine's Best Friend', 'Evolution of a SPARTAN' and a memorial to famous Personnel and UNSC Navy Vessels from the First Covenant War and the period afterwards - such as John-117, the UNSC Spirit of Fire, Captain Jacob Keyes, the UNSC In Amber Clad, the UNSC Infinity and Sergeant John Forge, 'Heroes of the UNSC'. - {Communication Station, - Click to Expand}
The men and women of the Myriad's Crew are also tasked with running the Communication Station aboard the Myriad. The advanced pieces of hardware and software in this section allow the Myriad to remain in contact with not only the other ships of the fleet, but to open secure communication channels to ground forces with portable communication technology. The Myriad is even capable of communication with HIGHCOM - utilising secure and secret automated long-range communication sattelites stationed throughout UNSC Space (and beyond). Although often, the Myriad is beyond even the reach of these sattelites and must rely upon the decisions of its Captain and HIGHCOM Representitive. - {Weapons Control, - Click to Expand}
The Myriad is outfitted with hundreds of external weapons designed for ship-ship combat and ship-ground bombardment. The majority of these systems are controlled via A.I., who aquire, track and ultimately destroy targets. The Dumb A.I. used in this department are designed specifically for this purpose, ensuring maximum firepower from the Myriad's stock of weapons. The ship's Smart A.I. aids in aquiring high priority targets from the hectic crowds of fighters and frigates that form during Ship-Ship engagements. However the Myriad's Crew is responsible for setting and monitoring the parameteres of these weapons. It is the job of Weapons Control to paint specific targets as the Command Deck dictates and to relay information such as MAC cooldown, ammunition stores and weapons readyness. - {Manufacturing Department, - Click to Expand}
The Manufacturing Department of the Myriad is a largely automated system of factories that produce everything the Myriad and its crew expends, from ammunition to guns, battle armour and even Vehicles and ship parts. The Myriad is only capable of doing this due to the Mining Vessels located within its fleet and the occasional aquisition of resources from nearby UNSC or Concordat colonies. The Manufacturing Department allows the Myriad to resupply itself after protracted engagements or lengthy excursions into untamed space where resupply from the UNSC isn't possible. - {Med Bay. - Click to Expand}
While most sections, Emergency Hangers and Crew Quarters will have trained staff and basic medical gear, for more serious injuries or even contracted diseases the Myriad is equipped with a top of the line Med Bay. The staff here, having worked as Navy Surgeons or Civilian Medical staff, are well trained with almost all situations they can encounter aboard the Myriad. While modern science has allowed many things previously crippling to be curable, however such injuries as amputations are only treatable with robotic, A.I. assisted, replacements and should a Marine be crippled like this - they are handed over to the UNSC for honourable discharge as soon as is possible.

The UNSC ship yards around Reach begin construction on something amazing. It has been twenty years since a vessel of this size has been constructed by the UNSC, and the media are excited for its unveiling. They have to wait, of course, as construction of the vessel takes just under 8 years to complete. Media attention is constant, although it died down for a good six years until the expected completion date drew close again. The UNSC kept the vessel under a black sheet, not literally of course but the Media were only leaked specific images of its construction and the site was of course deemed a permission entry only zone.

An extensively merited Captain, William Herrik, is chosen from a council of Admirals to command the new vessel. Spoken of as 'Keyes Reborn' by his impressed crew due to his grasp of modern and old tactics, and his 'ingenious' instinct. The real reason for his command for the vessel was his outstanding service during the Battle of Chihahna 4.
As the vessel, freshly dubbed the 'UNSC Myriad' rolled out of the assembly yard, the UNSC spoke not only to it's excited citizens, but it's allies in the Concordat and its fearful enemies the Covenant. The Myriad was a weapon, one of the most powerful ever produced. The reverse engineered energy projectors allowed for localised glassing, the HAVOK Tactical Railgun potentially allowed the Myriad to destroy entire fleets from afar. The UNSC was in awe, the Covenant was outraged. They said it was a "clear display of strength that is a poorly veiled threat", and they weren't far from the truth. For the Myriad had the muscle to back up its threat, and the freshly constructed fleet that was revealed alongside it were the UNSCs latest in an effort to showcase it's future, largely reverse engineered Forerunner and Covenant, technologies and extensive resource availability.
The Myriad Fleet slid from its orbit around Reach into the arms of a galaxy that feared and respected it. There was a surge in UNSC popularity in the Middling Colonies, and a surge of insurrectionist sympathy in the outer colonies. For the UNSC had the resources to create this 'over armed behemoth' but not the resources to secure the outer colonies from the Promethean raids.
Well the Myriad was going to fix that.

{The 2641 Battle of Chihahna 4 - Click to Expand}
The 2641 Battle of Chihahna 4 took place over the outer colony it is named after, 'Chihahna 4', colloquially known as Chiha. Promethean forces, a mere scout party yet clearly out manning and out gunning the local UNSC garrison, exited slip-space at 08:43 in the dark side of Chihahna 4b, the second tidally locked moon of the planet. Cyber attacks began upon the small work colony within minutes of the slip-space jump registering on UNSC servers. Communication was cut, and only hard lined communication stations remained up and running to register the attack and most importantly, warn the colonists and the UNSCDF of the coming threat.
The Promethean drone Fence-class Fighter Bombers immediately swarmed the colony, beginning a bombing campaign that only ended with the arrival of the UNSC Luxor, an Autumn-class Heavy Frigate that immediately launched it's fighter compliment and engaged the Promethean Fences in combat. Soon the Fences were joined by their fleet, two Bastion-class Carriers disengaged themselves from stable orbit behind the planet's second moon. As if a meteor shower had suddenly struck the small colony, the skies over the major population areas lot red with the light of falling pods. Promethean Towers, carrying the data stores, particle construction stations and ready made Promethean and Sentinel Constructs, crashed deep into the surface of the planet. As they opened they released wave after wave of Promethean forces upon the lightly armed civilians, Colonial Militia and UNSCDF.
The UNSC Luxor, under the command of Captain William Herrik launched all available Marines, ODSTs and the one squad of SPARTAN Vs under his command to relieve ground forces. Every available Pelican, Pod and Darter was launched to the surface baring troops, vehicles and armaments for the civilians. Broadswords were launched to engage the renewed waves of Fence-class fighters, in an attempt to defend the Shortswords as they attempted to bring down the Towers. It was Captain Herrik's next, brave, move to head directly into combat with the Promethean Carriers. The battle was long, protracted by constant needs to retreat out of the effective range of the Promethean's energy-based weaponry while peppering the Promethean's with missile upon missile salvo. Cpt Herrik led the Prometheans into low orbit around Chihahna's secondary moon, and remote detonated the UNSC Frigate's low-yield HAVOK missile (secreted into location mere moments before by the brave crew of Darter AU-1034-26) as the Promethean vessels passed over it. The moon's thin ,partially terraformed, atmosphere erupted in flames - shattering the shielding on the Promethean vessels. A crater, roughly 25,000 km in diameter, was formed from the bomb and the simply massive discharge of material from the moon pelted the Promethean vessels, crippling one and completely destroying the second. Cpt Herrik, narrowly escaping the destruction himself, turned his Frigate around and engaged the crippled carrier - it's lack of shielding making it vulnerable to the Frigate's MAC blasts. As the last Promethean Carrier died, so too did the control it had over the ground forces on the clone itself. The uncoordinated invasion force was quickly destroyed.

For two years the Myriad Fleet cruised the UNSC Colonies. It's purpose to shore up defences on these colonies, using it's inbuilt Manufacture Departments to supply any under stocked UNSCDForces it found. But most importantly it hunted Insurrectionist forces, luring them into traps with 'crippled' UNSC Freighters and besieging, or outright destroying, their asteroid or planet side bases.
But it's true purpose was in tracking the Prometheans. They had been quiet since the Myriad had been constructed, clearly they had been watching too. Eventually, in the September of that year, the Myriad Fleet received an emergency distress signal from a colony in a neighbouring star system: Chihahna 4.

{The Second Battle of Chihahna 4: - Click to Expand}
The Myriad Fleet exited slip-space around Chihahna 4. Opening contact with the colony led to the news that there hadn't been an attack on the planet for four years. The confused and disheartened crew of the Myriad had lost yet another trail on the Prometheans to a dead link, probably an Insurrectionist trick or a delayed message from a damage buoy.
But that was far from the truth. As slip-space jumps registered on their sensors, the Myriad soon found itself ambushed by not one or two Promethean vessels, but an entire fleet. Keep-class Frigates immediately engaged the Myriad's fleet, harassing it's escort and damaging it's shielding. Bastion-class Carriers, at least 4 of them reared into view and launched countless Fence-class Fighter Bombers to engage the fleet and the colony in a repeat of the events four years prior. But the worst was yet to come, as an enormous Citadel-class flagship - dwarfing even the Myriad - loomed in the distance. The Myriad launched it's Frigate and Destroyer complements, immediately becoming embroiled in a fight against the Keep-class Frigates assaulting the fleet. The UNSC Carriers accompanying the Myriad were completely bogged down, Promethean Frigates swarming them like bees, making the Carriers unable to launch their fighter complements.
Cpt Herrik had a hard decision to make, force his Carriers to defend for themselves and instruct the Frigates and Cruisers at his disposal to attempt to aid them or to engage the Promethean Carriers launching a devastating assault upon the planet. The Myriad sped towards the Carriers, and before the slow moving vessels had even registered it's change in direction the Myriad's complement of four MACs and three Energy Projectors had simultaneously fired and crippled one of the vessels. As the Promethean Carrier began it's slow uncontrolled descent towards the planet, the Myriad sped through the deveststion it had caused and cleaved a second Prometean Carrier in two. The Myriad sustained minor damage from the impact, having thrown the majority of its shielding power in front of it as an effective ram, but immediately engaged the final two carriers with its massive assortment of missiles, MACs and Energy Projectors.
Meanwhile, the Myriad Fleet had secured it's Carriers with minimal losses, but the attention it had given to securing itself had left the line broken and soon they were engaged in battle with a second wave. And the Citadel itself. The fleet could only watch, their weapons powerless, as the Citadel seemed to open like a deathly flower. Power could be seen charging from a pylon in the centre, much like the Covenant energy projectors they had all seen before. Yet so very, very different. It was beautiful, yet horrifying, as the golden-red light shot forth from the Citadel and struck one of the Carriers. The shielding, reverse engineered from Covenant and Promethean technologies many years before, shattered like glass and flickered out of existence and the beam simply cut the vessel in half.
All hands were lost on the UNSC Indomitable, both sections of the Vessel were quickly engulfed in internal explosions. Silent, deadly, captivating. The shell-shocked UNSC fleet heard only the one order, the sound for retreat, from the Captains lips. Three out of four of the Promethean carriers had been destroyed or crippled by the Myriad - but it's shields were suffering and against the Citadel... The best idea was the idea was to regroup. Deployed Marines, ODSTs and SPARTANs on the ground were given their last decisive orders to come for hours as communication was cut by the Citadel coming into orbit. Stay strong, fortify and gather the civilians for extraction.
It was a harrowing three hours for the Myriad and her compliment, the loss of two more frigates to the Citadel within half an hour of the call to retreat put some urgency into the Fleet. The Citadel was slow moving compared to the UNSC vessels, so the Myriad and her fleet gathered on the opposite side of Chihahna 4, currently out of the sunlight, and sent down what reinforcements they could before leaving Chihahna 4's orbit for the gas giant Chihahna 3. Along the way they were constantly harassed by the Promethean fleet hot on their tail, seemingly abandoning their assault on Chihahna 4 so they could pursue the Myriad Fleet.
The battle of Chihahna 4 had taken an unexpected turn for the UNSC, the ground forces had seemingly won as the Promethean forces were destroyed or routed. While the Fleet found itself hard pressed to escape the looming Promethean Fleet, constantly harassing them in their tactical retreat. The UNSC has the advantages of a determined escort - but the Promethean Fence-class Fighters were seemingly endless. Several frigates sustained crippling damage, falling behind only to be swarmed by the Promethean fighters and corvettes. The UNSC forces eventually managed to reach Chihahna 3, gathering around an automated mining facility. The facility, being on the UNSC borders, was outfitted with automated defenses. However, the point defence turrets and two retrofitted 'Onager' rail guns were hardly worthy of combating the Promethean Fleet. But the Myriad Fleet, never one to be put off by the odds, turned around to face their foes in a classic defensive line. As the swarm of Promethean Fence-class Fighters bordered the horizon, the Myriad's Sabre and Broadsword complements sped forth to meet them in combat. Outnumbered, yet determined, they put up a valiant fight. Gains were made, thanks to the automated defences on the platform and the UNSC fleet, but that didn't stop the Prometheans from advancing.
Corvettes and Frigates, backed up by Cruisers, were next. The Myriad Fleet knew their targets, and the Myriad herself proved exceptionally suited to her role, using plasma projectors to burn through the Promethean shielding while their MAC strikes crippled the weakened vessels. But all was for naught, as when the Citadel-class flagship entered into range and it's deathly flower opened to the cosmos it tore through not one Cruisers but two with its first strike. The second crippled a Carrier, forcing the weakened vessel back behind the lines. The third would take a larger prize.
All was lost, the Myriad Fleet was in disarray and the Prometheans were assaulting with excessive force. Several Cruisers and Frigates were punctured with Promethean Towers - their marines already deployed and leaving the Fleet undefended to the boarding assault. It dawned upon Herrik that this fleet, this overly armed fleet, had not come for some backwater planet. There had been excessive surveys of the Chihahna System, and there were no Forerunner structures hidden here. Instead this fleet was here to hunt them, hunt the Myriad. Show the UNSC the price of their ego, their threat. Just as the Myriad had lured Insurrectionist forces using a fake signal, so had the Promethean's lured her. She would serve not as the shield of Humanity, but instead her debris would be left to float the dead colony. Her broken back a sign to Humanity, the Sangheili, the San'Shyuum, that their time had come. The age of the 'Lesser Races' was over.
But the Myriad would not be a corpse left to rot. She would be a martyr, a hero, a vessel that would go down in history as defending the UNSC to its last man. The Captain gave the order, his officers seemed shocked at first. But their faces hardened, they too were determined to finish their hunt. The Myriad begun it's advance, the rest of the Fleet followed, maintaining healthy distance, and fought back the Promethean forces as the Myriad closed upon the Citadel-class. The Myriad begun it's constant bombardment, volleys of MAC rounds were thrown against the Promethean's shield. The three energy projectors tore at the superior shielding. The HAVOK was loaded. The Citadel seemed to take notice, and as the jaws of the Myriad's demise opened to devour the ship, her crew and her Captain - the HAVOK was launched.
The plan was simple. It would be costly, but it would succeed. The HAVOK would destroy the enemies shielding completely. The Myriad would then ram the Citadel, the excessive damage would eventually trigger an explosion within its own core - the slip-space drive would collapse and the Citadel would crumble.
Yet she still lives today, serving the UNSC with pride. The HAVOK passed harmlessly through the shielding. A momentary break in the shield had let the weapon through. The Citadel had lowered it's shielding in order to shoot it's energy projector, and while a normal MAC round would have merely pierced it's super structure, the HAVOK had caused much more damage. Trapped within the shielding, the vast explosion completely melted away the Citadel's armour. The shields broke in a blaze of light as that system became too damaged to sustain. A series of chain reactions begun when the built up store of plasma within the energy projector was released internally. The entire vessel burst like a bubble, cheers erupted across the Command Deck and the Promethean forces were quickly destroyed.
While the one remaining Carrier had remained in orbit around Chihahna 4, it had been taken down by the valiant efforts of the Myriad's SPARTANs, ODSTs, Marines and UNSCDF Pilots and Militia. Many had lost their lives in the assault, but the triumphant return of the Myriad Fleet was celebrated across the colony.

The year of the Joyous Exultation Massacre. The year all hope of peace to unite against the Prometheans was dashed on the rocks, drenched in the blood of UNSC, Sangheili and Covenant alike. Some blamed the Prometheans, the Covenant blamed the UNSC, but the decorated war hero Captain Herrik thought something about this was fishy. It smelled of Insurrectionists, it was below the Prometheans - they much preferred grand shows of dominance over a subtle bombing. He couldn't quite place to what side these Insurrectionists had belonged to, but some people just wanted to watch the Universe burn. He had heard recent news of a Covenant cult, split off from their main faction, that wished to release the Flood once more. While Herrik had never seen the Flood in anything but vids (mostly of documentary computer generated images, and horror movies) he was willing all to much to throw his freshly retrofitted fleet into tracking them down.
However the Second Covenant War loomed on the horizon, and the UNSC had wrangled the Myriad into defensive shifts on the border colonies and high priority missions. They had given the Myriad free reign over its R&D Department, free to research and test modifications to existing weapons, armour and vehicles to the point of creating completely new armaments.
