Marilyn's parents were kind people, but her father, an NCR soldier, died when Marilyn was three. She missed her Dada, and she still does. Her mother was protective of her, but still offered her freedom. Marilyn spent a lot of time with the other kids in The Hub, most of whom were nice and kind.

Marilyn, in her teen years was obsessed with singing, and bought holotapes of Marilyn Monroe, who she coincedentally shared the first name of. She practiced for many years. Her mother moved to Freeside when she was 17. When she turned 19, the Garretts offered her a job at the Wrangler, singing. The terms were, that she would sing every night she was up to it, and that she would get a suite, and free booze and smokes.

So began her career. Most people in Freeside loved her, she was dibbed 'The Freeside Gal'. She liked the name, and adopted her stage name to this. Overall, she went from a shy kid, to a flirty girl, that gained the attention of many people. Her mother liked to listen to her daughter, and came to the Atomic Wrangler every night to listen to her.

Eventually, her mother died of natural causes, and many people in Freeside attended her funeral, and Marilyn performed the song 'Bye Bye Baby' she returned to work, and it was if nothing happened, but she did start to miss the loving care of her family.
