The Death Riders were formed in the year 2241, by a Group of young travellers who came upon a ruin of a town, that would one day be called "The Soul's End"
Mercer and his friends, Husky, Bones, Scarecrow and Robot were known for being cruel. They weren't bullies, but they were evil in a quiet, usually extremely violent way. They grew up together in the ruins of D.C. but left when they we're teenagers.
They came across the town after a few weeks of travel, by this time the cruel reality of the wastes had stripped them of what little humanity they had left, and had left a trail of broken and bloody corpses as they went. At first they were just going to stay for a night, then another, until they had been there for several weeks, living of scraps scavenge form the wrecks of houses. They started to rebuild the town in small ways. Covering holes, boarding up windows and clearing out the large pack of dogs that roamed the town centre.
After about a year, they had a fairly comfortable little fort to call their own, but that wasn't enough. They snuck into farms and towns in the area at night, and stole people into the night, killing those too young, old or weak to be useful as slaves.
They learned to enjoy being waited on, and their raiding trips became more frequent, and slowly other like-minded people started to gather in the town. One such man was Rocket, a mysterious man who always wore a scarf over his mouth and big welding goggles. He offered his services as an engineer, and kept to his offer, being able to fix anything they brought to him. Mercer, the unofficial leader, decided he wanted to become an official leader, and start a gang of the most bad-ass murderers in America.
When their number reached 20, they formed an official gang. At first, they were known as the "Twisted Souls". Mercer and his friends took the higher ranks, with Rocket as head engineer.
After a while, there were so many people and slaves they had to expand, instead of the few buildings they had lightly repaired, they went all out to take over the whole town as their own. Raider attacks tripled over the next few months as they gathered resources and slaves to complete the goal: an entire town completely ruled by Mercer.
By the end, they had a scrap metal wall encircling the perimeter, a large area fenced off for the slaves to live in, with metal cargo containers serving a hovels. A large office building as Mercer's personal palace and another large building they had converted into a brothel.
About 10 years passed, Robot went scouting, and found the huge factory that he converted into The Colosseum, for when slavers get bored and want to watch slaves kill each other.
Inside they found machinery, and parts for all manner of vehicles, as well as fully built bikes and buggies. Rocket was brought in immediately, who informed them with he intact models and parts, he could build them a fleet of vehicles, each running of of a Microfusion Cell engine he invented himself.
Several months went by, and several dead slaves later Rocket had built a dozen bikes, half a dozen buggies and even two working cars. These were moved to an empty tower garage in the town itself. Mercer used these vehicles as a sign of future victory, and ordered every raider to be able to drive. Many died in he attempt, but those that did were rewarded with the flaming skull that became their sign, along with the new name of "The Death Riders"
Robot took a team of slaves to the now emptied factory and set to work, he cleared the ground floor of machinery and junk, then sealed of all the doors except for two small offices, which were converted into rooms for the fighters to wait in. The top floor was renovated massively for the Slavers leisure, sofa's were moved in and a bar was set up. The gladiatorial combat was very popular, and Mercer made a killing of of bets on the fights, he was so pleased he named Robot Master of the Colosseum, and left him to continue the now honoured tradition of the gang.
Skip forwards to 2268, when a young slave escapes from 'Slave town' and takes a shot at Mercer. It hits him in the shoulder, and although he is bed bound for a few weeks, he survives. The boy is never seen again.
When Mercer recovers, he is furious; a slave was able to escape. He personally killed the slavers who let him escape and ordered Rocket and his apprentices to set up a system to watch the slaves 24-7. They worked night and say, using old cameras and wires found in Mercer's basement until they had scavenged cameras set up all around Slave town. They were faulty however, and required constant repair.
To this day, The Soul's End is feared by many on the East Coast and mid regions of America, as their raider attacks never end. Mercer will bleed his country dry until only he has the power.
