An organization founded during the days following the Great War, it was founded by the remnants of the 69th New York National Guard, and LIPD officers who survived the bombs. The Guards are the powerhouse faction of Long Island, holding the most territory, and the best equipment. They currently 13 operational suits of power armor, a few national guard trucks, and two ferries. They also have two howitzers which are used for long range bombardment.

Riverhead Confederacy
The Riverhead Confederacy is an alliance of tribals that have banded together to fight the Guards. They are led by the Chieftan of the Riverhead Tribe, which owns the most firearms of the bunch. Riverhead 'Storm Archers' turned the tide of the last Guards expansion.

The remnants of a failed experiment of dark days during the Great War returns to wreak havoc on the world above.

Flanders Bay Pirates
A Raider group that uses pre-war stealth-boys which have caused a few of the members to go insane. Their primary tactic is using rafts to cross the bay during dark, and to land in coastal fishing villages. They then loot and plunder, using the stealth-boys to slip away.
This is an NPC faction primarily, there will not be any active characters.
The Project
The only visible part of the Projects Complex Pre War, now, it's gone
The Project- The Project was started in the middle of World War 2 by the American Government, to prepare secret weapons to gain an edge on the enemy. Their supposed experiments and research were the target of many conspiracy theorists, but few people actually vocalized their concerns, believing that any research done was to stop the dirty Reds from taking over the American Dream.
After the Nuclear Holocaust, it was assumed by the world that The Montauk Project was finished for good. But, "The fewer the facts, the stronger the opinion."

As the Project expands outwards, its experiments have become more common to the public, though the Guards fight hard to keep them contained. These are only a few of the horrors that roam the Irradiated Forks.
Telefrags

Telefrags are the hideous mistake of the Project's experiments with teleportation. Teleporting (or 'porting') more than one subject at a time, or accidentally teleporting a subject to the same place as another person was standing created the warped beings that the scientists christened "Telefrags." They were originally prisoners granted to the Project by the Government from Ryker's island. Nowadays, they are created by the project's automated guidance systems, from wastelands and raiders who break in looking for loot. Whilst ungainly, they attack with the ferocity of two men, and possess their endurance too. Their minds have long been destroyed by the traumatic teleportation accident, and will attack any non telefragger on sight.
Project Afflicted Bandit 'Crawler'

When the Projects affliction expanded, it did not just claim the good. Bandit gangs that had been camping out on the south fork of Long Island were caught by it. Infact, they were worse off. They could not run to the Guards for protection. This was the result.
These creatures are brutal, and mindless. They are reduced to a crawling shamble, while their flesh peels off and rots. They live only to kill.
Freaks

Nobody knows where Freaks exactly came from. Everyone is scared of them. Mothers use 'freaks' to scare their children to sleep. These hunters look like an ordinary feral ghoul, but they are quicker. And their claws can tear through the combat armor of the Guards. These creatures are obviously of Project Origin, but what experiment they were working on then? Nobody knows.
Project Super Mutants
Project Super Mutants are the Project's attempt to cure or reverse the FEV virus. This is in the form of a mutagenic forum that repairs any damage done to the genetic matrix. However, the serum is only partway successful. Mutants affected lose significant weight, turn feral and start to rot in a ghoul-like manner. Although weaker than most mutants, they are faster, to the point that they can even sneak up on victims.
- Long Island never took a direct hit from an Atomic bomb, instead only catching radiation from the bombs that hit New York City
- Long Island at the time had the 69th New York National Guard deployed on it to maintain order.
- Scientists at Montauk were conducting unethical research on prisoners of war there.
- Long Island suffers from radiation (duh)
- Most denizens of Eastern Long Island refer to it simply as 'The Forks'
