Vaht is rarely affected by a death, but still has a conscience, and deals with his debt by assisting the ship more. For instance, he once helped by working in the kitchen. His helpfulness has given him an approachable behaviour, and because he has no other choice, embraced it, and is willing to assist any in need. He'll often put the needs of others before his, especially his comrades on the battlefield.
Vaht 'Huskal was born to Sangheili Zealots themselves, he had a hard birth, and his mother died of blood loss, as Vaht was large for a baby, it caused her much pain, and she was tired, unable to fight back. Vaht's father worked day and night to work out a living for Vaht, who almost always in the care of his family, instead of his father, who was a Zealot.
Vaht's father died in the line of fire fighting against the Covenant, he died a hero's death, and was missed dearly, even though he didn't spend much time with his family. With the small amount of time he spent with Vaht, he instilled the values of a good soldier and citizen, respect, loyalty, cooperation, courage. Vaht was inspired by his father, a great man, a great soldier. Vaht, now approaching the age that he could join the Sangheili in battle, began preparing at home, gaining strength, fitness and wellbeing. When the time for recruitment came around, his abilities were more then sound, they were bloody brilliant. Just after his recruitment, he was placed on a list for Zealot candidates. They already began training him.
At 21, he became an honourary Zealot, and was sent to assist a Zealot group on a Covenant controlled world. He got in discreetly, via banshee, and began infiltration of a small Covenant base where artifacts were believed to have been stored. They got to the chamber, and were ambushed by a hunter. They worked together to take it down, and only one was injured. As there were no artifacts held, they double timed it out of the base, and as an attack was already underway, they were exfilled via Phantom.
Almost every assignment he went on was textbook, except for one encounter, where they infiltrated an assault carrier that was under attack by their forces. The team forced their way into the control room where the Forerunner Relic was said to be held. Except the Covenant forces had rerouted to the control room. When they opened the door, they were greeted by teams of Mgalekgolo and Jiralhanae. If Vaht was at the back of the group, he would've been killed. He had a head start to the exit, and ran his way back to their dropship, which was still under attack as he left the carrier. Vaht left the incident with a sense of regret, and worthlessness. He thought of what his father would do, and he began helping out in more then just combat, he cooked, he cleaned, he repaired and he medicated. Vaht was the ship's jack of all trades, and picked up quite a few skills along the way.
Vaht carried this behaviour onto the Graceful Eminence, the first supercarrier he had been assigned to. He fit in well, and was first greeted with suspicion, but once the crew found his need to help, they greeted him as one of their own, and he was given the face of helpfulness aboard the ship. The crew found him as very approachable, and able to help in almost anything.
