Personality: Daryn is young for a Dunmer, but has still lived to see two centuries of turmoil and despair. His cleverness has made him cynical, his knowledge unkind. Thinking too much and feeling too little has made him cold, sometimes callous and dispassionate. The only thing that drives him to live through the days is the hope that he will outlive all the Nords (whom he considers fools) around him.
Daryn was born to a pair of cold-hearted, emotionless assassins in Vivec. His parents belonged to the Morag Tong, and from birth he was taught to be a killer. His first target was this drunken merchant who had been spreading rumours about a certain politician. Little detail was given, and he was barely 15. This wasn't a job for a rookie, or an adolescent. Nevertheless, Daryn killed him well and presented his Writ to the Indoril guards. They grunted, and he walked away. That was the first of many targets, and with time it grew easier. For forty years, he served the Tong well and rose to the rank of Knower just before the Red Mountain Erupted. When it did, the Tong fell apart and where scattered across Tamriel. They swore to regroup, but it was doubtful.
Daryn's parents died in an ash storm supposedly, since they were never seen after they went out on a mission. Daryn knew he had to move on, and his parents' hard conditioning meant he couldn't even weep for them. Daryn hitched a ride to Solstheim on a sailing ship on the coast and spent a while there picking up the pieces before finally getting to grips with it all. He had a mild Skooma addiction while deciding on a course of action, but he eventually got over it in a while and reconditoned himself. A decade later, he left on a ship for Skyrim. He was ready to kill again.
He offered his services in towns such as Windhelm and Solitude, which caught the unwanted attention of the Dark Brotherhood at the time. He was sent a strip of parchment with a black hand painted on it, and a few assassination attempts were made. All failed. He began honing his skills further and employed dozens of teachers to show him how to better his skills. The Dark Brotherhood had easily put him off being so public about his contracting, so he went underground for a while and began doing contracts in secret and out of their eyes (or so he thought). They weren't bothered in the coming decades however as they were gradually falling apart, so he got away with it.
In the present day, he wanders Skyrim seeking a purpose (and performing a steady amount of assassinations while he waits for it...).
