Name: Kingdom of Svarjhold

Terrain: Tundra, with the occasional mountains. Snowy lands. Unsuitable for mass agriculture.

Army: Unprofessional army of raiders, led by various 'captains' and owing loyalty to the various minor chieftains in the kingdom. The only 'professional' group would be the Kings personal guard. In the great hall of Svarjhold, the Kings personal guard are made up of some of the greatest warriors, handpicked by the king himself. They are often his longest companions, veterans of many raids. The warriors believe that they will go to their ancestors in the heavens upon death, and as such make fearsome fighters when enraged. They will rarely rout, and it would take a great foe indeed to inspire fear in their hearty souls. Each warrior may take his own thralls from raids, who become a part of the house hold and take care of certain demeaning tasks.





Brief Description: The Kingdom of Svarjhold was established by King Urik, the current rulers Grandfather. Urik was a mighty raider and chieftain who convinced a large amount of the local chieftains of the region to support his bid for ruler ship, the others were swiftly brought to heel at spear point after years of conflict in the region. These days were known as 'The Days of Red Snow' due to the blood spilled. Uriks son, Olaf Uriksson expanded the kingdom eastword, establishing a few free-holds and trading posts. The people of Svarjhold consider themselves loosely related to the Atannarians, and have a general 'non-aggression' pact with them, choosing to trade and interact with them over conquest and raiding. This does not stop members from the warrior societies from engaging in the occasional brawl over minor insults and disputes. The current ruler of the warriors of Svarjhold is Harld Olafsson. He has continued the traditions of his ancestors, leading multiple raids himself to prove himself to the various chieftains.

Name: The Free-Holds of Aleksland

Terrain: Same as above, with a few more roads that lead to the various trading holds.

Army: N/A, the Free-Holds are a protectorate of the Kingdom of Svarjhold, and the tribes of Atannaria have a vested interest in keeping them alive. However, the settlers of Aleksland all know how to defend themselves like their cousins to the east and west, and are a warrior society. Thus, there is no form of professional army, merely the raider clans.

Brief Description: As mentioned above, the free holds were established by King Olaf Uriksson, who sent the warrior Alek to establish the first free-hold on a hill overlooking one of the icy rivers. It was this settlement which first established beyond cordial relationship with the Atannarians, eventually realizing that the Atannarians were similar to themselves, the Svarjhold men allowed the tribes to pass through their lands and trade freely.

Name: Albion
Terrain: Large, flat grasslands much of which is now fields for grazing and farming
Army: Basic, their military force is made up of raiders, bandits, reavers and other such criminals. Wearing whatever they can find, wielding whatever they can steal, they use ambush and surprise tactics to defeat their enemy before they can be attacked back. They have little discipline or loyalty, and a professional army would rout them easily, so they only prey on small villages and lightly armoured forces. Rustgut withholds a more veteran force, bolstered by mercenaries to fight off any invaders.
Brief Description: The lands of Albion were very peaceful, most people were farmers, working grain or cattle depending on their preference. This was until the Bandit King Rustgut arrived with a legion of evil men. He methodically besieged and defeated every single castle that dared to defy him. He publically executed the true king of Albion, and unceremoniously crowned himself. Now the peaceful villages are full of rowdy thugs, forcing the peasants to work until they collapse, producing food or weapons. The once regal castles are now covered in the red fist of Rustgut, they are covered in metal spikes and crude wooden extensions. The capital city now has a permanent cloud of smog above it, as people are forced to labour in seigeworks, building catapults and trebuchets, scorpions and ballistae. Rustgut intends to work the nation to the bone, getting as many recourses as he can before moving on to attack some poor new province.

Name: Abrakhân
Terrain: Desert; sand and dunes for miles around
Army: Intermediate: The Merchant kings of the fabled golden cities each have their own personal guard, as well as large forces of mercenaries and desert tribals that live in the area. These men are very knowledgeable when it comes to war, but their gear is about average, the tribals being a little lower in quality.
Brief Description: Abrakhân is the richest province in the continent. There are seven Merchant Kings, each ruling their own 'golden city' that control the land. Under these are hundreds of squabbling merchant guilds that constantly fight each other for the favour of the kings or the best deal. It has been said that every time you buy or sell, someone in Abrakhân is making a profit. Because of their economic power, they are a very much needed member of the Council of Men, as they have been the major investors in every major war to happen in which humans were involved.

Name: Chaq-tau
Terrain: Tropical island clusters, with dense jungle on the mainland.
Army: Simple; the People of Chaq-tau are tribals, and have little in the way of technology. They would never stand a chance if they left their homes, but within the jungles, they can stalk their prey like masters. Chaq-tau tribals are short, and very quick. They can climb like masters and use deadly poison on their blowgun darts and arrows, they have woven armour for light protection, and stone spears and tools.
Brief Description: Chaq-tau is a tropical paradise...if it weren't for everything being poisonous. Because of the variety and number of deadly and very poisonous lizards, snakes, frogs, toads and alligators. (that's right, even alligators are poisonous here). The people of Chaq-tau have leant to live in trees, so they only have to worry about the ones that climb. Which is most of them. To be a Chaq-tauian is to sign your own death. The oldest known native is currently 39. Though they have a great deal of knowledge on how to avoid and treat the poisons, there are still many casualties every year. Chaq-tau natives are cheerful and quite positive despite all this. They know that because they could drop dead at any moment, they have to enjoy what life they do have.

Silver, mind changing 11's name? That's pretty close to what Zen has set as his factions name.

A) I've made a Google doc to keep track of what's free, who has what, and some basic descriptions that are probably way off the mark so if you guys could update those that'd be great. Link's here, and I think I have the permissions set so that anyone with that link can edit it and stuff. Why? Because I don't particularly enjoy scrolling through trying to figure out what places are taken and whatnot. And I can't imagine you do, either.

2) In the process of completing number A I discovered that province #4 is already taken, Immortal. By me. 5 is free, though. So..... I'm not really sure what you want to do about that.

Number: 82

Name: Nephalia

Terrain: Although it does have a fair amount of trees, it's mainly flat-land and swamp. Most places are damp at best, even the slightly safer towns. A large amount of mist seems to appear most nights, and rarely even during the day. The tips of Nephalia touch the coast, and any ships that try to dock in this area are usually destroyed, unable to see with the mist or the darkness. 

Army: There is no proper law in Nephalia, however there are small towns. The monstrosities of the area never leave the province, afraid they'll be killed in the outside world. If you tried to cull an army, you'd become food for yelling too loud.

Brief Description: The area is surrounded by graveyards and flatland. The people of the province keep to themselves and try to survive in their small towns, all armed to the teeth for self defense. There is no real law or order, besides a few of the bigger towns. While they might be safe compared to the other towns, complete with town guard and the like, they're still in danger of the undead banging on their door. Some of the creatures that inhabit this area area;

Zombies, old fashioned pop-out-of-the-grave type stuff.

Ghosts, these sorta things.

Demons. Should you see one, there is almost no chance you will make it out alive, however one or two people have lived to tell the story. Are they just tall tales, or do such a dark force really roam the planes of Nephalia?

Number: 68

Name: Kessig

Terrain: Deep, DEEP forest. A clearing means a town, and even those have trouble keeping the trees away. That said, the province is not unpopulated, with various farming villages and the like appearing across the province. A single, large town rules over the province technically, however does not have much power. It is seen as the capital as it is the biggest, and the safest, however they have no real power. It is, of course, named Kessig.

Army: While the farming villages may have some weapons, the main military force lies in the city of Kessig. There is a relatively large town guard, at least for the size of the town, boasting about 200 members. In addition, 50 knights stand ready to protect the town against larger threats, if needed. These are backed up by another 30 archers, and there are a very small amount of wizards in-case they are needed, numbering in only about 3. Tamed animals such as Giant Spiders have been rumoured deeper in the forest, however such a thing has not yet reached the town of Kessig. Units of Kessig are used as follows (after tamed animals have reached Kessig);

General population - Light, weak Infantry

Town Guard - Medium infantry. Not too strong, not too weak. Not too fast, not too slow. Aeryn falls into this class. 

Knights - Heavy Infantry. Garruk is of this class, although he is not an actual knight, he has similar armour and weapons. In addition, Alexander does as well, being the leader of the Kessig knights.

Archers - Archers. 

Wizards - Wizards. Krisatra falls into this class. 

Werewolves - A mixture. By night, they are powerful charge units. By day, they fall into one of the above categories (General Pop, Knight, Archer, Wizard).

Giant Spiders - Used as both cavalry and general heavy units

Other giant animals - All have different uses, however are not really used as cavalry.

Tuskers - Both cavalry and charge-type units.

Bandersnatch - Heavy, slow cavalry. Also used as heavy units. 

Jabberwocky - Flying cavalry, flying units. Generally used by the archers to get higher ground. Not the best flying unit around, easily being beaten by a handful of arrows, however still helpful.

Thundertusks - Fast/rush cavalry, charge units.

Treefolk - Tank units. Very slow, very powerful. Hard to kill without fire, and even so they'll still have a few minutes before they're burnt down. 

Brief Description:
Kessig is a dangerous place, however it is not without law. The town itself is safe for the most part, how even new-comers know to keep inside at night. Werewolves prowl the moonlight, and if you're unlucky or dumb enough to run into one, you don't have a good chance or surviving. The town of Kessig itself is very lawful, however very neutral. They will not protect you if you are outside of city walls, for their own safety. If you venture into the woods deep enough, you may run into other beasts, such as giant spiders or simple hostile animals. Kessig does not have a mayor or ruler, political decisions being made by the head of the town guard, leader of the knights, and the small group of Wizards. The archers are a sub-division of the knights and do not have a proper leader. Some of the other beasts you may encounter in Kessig are;




Ghosts, albeit rare, they do still exist here.

There are rumours of both Vampires and Demons, however there is no evidence.

Things such as giant worms, giant parasites, generally just oversized animals, insects, etc.



Strange beasts of all kinds, such as Tuskers (Seen above), Bandersnatch, Thunder-tusks, Jabberwocky, and many more.

Regular animals such as wolves, bears, snakes, etc. Nothing too friendly either.



Treefolk, large sentient trees deep into the forest, off the beaten path.




Notable individuals include;



Garruk Wolfe, a citizen of Kessig and one of the only people brave enough to actively hunt the beasts of the province. Rumours suggest he is a Werewolf, but there is no evidence. In addition, there are rumours he has found a way to even tame some animals, earning him the nickname "Beast-master". There is no evidence to suggest this except for unreliable witnesses. He does not deny or admit that he can perform such a feat. 



The leader of the knights in Kessig, Alexander Fontaine, an honourable man. He trains new recruits as well as leads the Knights into battle, however such an occasion is extremely rare, and it's usually against a troublesome over-sized spider wondering into the Kessig area. Identified as leader by his completely different armour.



Leader of the town guard, a woman by the name of Aeryn Black. Has the final say on most courtly matters (i.e deciding the punishment of a criminal), as well as training any new recruits. Usually seen with a few other members of the town guard, patrolling the streets. The town guard themselves wear very similar armour to the knights, however do not wear helmets and have different shields. In addition, most Knights carry a two-handed weapon rather then a one-handed, such a thing being unheard of in the town guard.  

    

Although the wizards don't have a head, the most powerful is a woman by the name of Krisatra Trannyth. She is rather young, only 25, however has an uncanny ability with magic. While she is not as powerful as many of the mages of the world, she can still use some advanced magic.

Name: Stensia

Terrain: Treacherous, mountainous terrain. Large ravines separate the mountain paths, plunging to your death is not difficult here. Should you choose to simply travel through the ravines, you'll be met with animals such as coyotes and beasts such as Vampires looking for prey, if you don't just run into a dead end anyway.

Army: There are many manors and some villages throughout the province, some ruled by Vampires, some ruled by humans. None of them have any real armies, besides possibly a few town guard. Stensia itself does have a proper town guard and some soliders, however nothing special. 

Brief Description: The provinces capital is a rather large, city-like town simply called "Stensia". The town does not combat the Vampire threat, however they do not accept them either, for obvious reasons. The population of the province either survive off animal meat, vegetables artifically grown there, or blood, depending on the race. Regular vegetables do not grow in Stensia, as the ground is a mixture between pure rock and sand. There are other towns and villages, however most other places are simply manors built on the flatter parts of mountains. Some Vampires live in these, however the population is prominently human. That said, Vampires are not afraid to leave their houses and look for prey, the sun never truly piercing the dense, red-tinged clouds hanging overhead. Some of the other beasts you may find in Stensia are;

General deadly animals such as Hyenas, Coyotes, Wolves, etc.

Scorpions, some the size of boulders.

Scarabs, although they are a rare site, they travel in swarms and will not hesitate to attack you.

Sand worms, sometimes seen between ravines, where there is more sand.

Name: CopperVale
Capital city: The ancient city of Tapeleth

Terrain: Scattered mountains lie along the border between Coppervale, and its neighbor Agipos, these sharp mountains make way to softer hills the further east you head in the province though it is not difficult to come across mountains in the east. To the extreme east of the province pine forests can be seen sprouting up around the border with Dopoth. The more interesting aspect of the province however lies underground, massive caverns exist below the province and can be accessed through small craters above ground.

Army: Intermediate - The people of CopperVale rely on the kingdom of Fonté for military support in return they supply the kingdom with young men to be trained as soldiers, in return they must also bare the crest of the kingdom, they must allow the kingdom to build churches of the 10 holy's in their major cities, they must allow the kingdom to build embassies in their major cities, and they must give 10% of their taxes to the kingdom Fonté. Before the civilization was captured by the kingdom of Fonté, the military relied heavily on clockwork contraptions, though some can still be found in the city today as guardians for the citizens.

Basic Description: CopperVale is the technological capital for the kingdom of Fonté, many of the greatest scientists of Fonté call this province home, they can come here, and study where they will not be prosecuted by the traditional theories of capital. This province was previously controlled by proud human Clocksmiths who made many mechanical contraptions for war, or otherwise however they were "Liberated" the kingdom of Fonté, and they now operate dependently under the crest of the kingdom. Though events in the province have improved since the annexation food production in the province has gone up, and the citizens are now better protected while under the crest of the kingdom. The craters formerly used as entry ways to the underground caverns are now covered by kingdoms erected by the masons of Fonté, accordingly it is now much more difficult for someone to access these underground cities, although they are open to the public, and are still used as cities by both the new, and old inhabitants. Unfortunately most of the beautiful underground cities were left in ruin by the kingdom. Below is an image of the oldest city in the province, and indeed older than the kingdom of Fonté, some of the luckier buildings were merely left in ruin while there unlucky counter parts were turned to rubble. All shrines of the former religion of the province were torn down, and replaced with churches of the 10 holy's. most of the original inhabitants of the province have long past away, but there great, great grandchildren have inherited their scars.

Name: Sopoth (Soap-Oath)
Capital city: Crom

Terrain: Jungles and woodlands dominate the region the only area within the province with little forestry is the extreme southern border with Dopoth, where a very clear border was drawn years ago by burning all of the foliage along the line separating the two provinces, no foliage has grown back since.

Army: Intermediate - The people of Sopoth rely on the kingdom of Fonté for military support in return they supply the kingdom with young men to be trained as soldiers, in return they must also bare the crest of the kingdom, they must allow the kingdom to build churches of the 10 holy's in their major cities, they must allow the kingdom to build embassies in their major cities, and they must give 10% of their taxes to the kingdom Fonté.

Basic Description: The province now known as Sopoth used to encompass more territory - The entirety of the province now known as Dopoth - And belonged to an indigenous species of trolls, the trolls were cast out and persecuted by the Fonté militants, and were driven to the province now known as Dopoth where they were forced into hiding.

Name: Dopoth (Dope-Oath)
Capital City: Cruanch

Terrain: Largely forested except at the extreme northern border with Sopoth

Army: Intermediate - The people of Dopoth rely on the kingdom of Fonté for military support in return they supply the kingdom with young men to be trained as soldiers, in return they must also bare the crest of the kingdom, they must allow the kingdom to build churches of the 10 holy's in their major cities, they must allow the kingdom to build embassies in their major cities, and they must give 10% of their taxes to the kingdom Fonté.

Basic Description: The last hope for the forest trolls was refuge in this territory, they were snuffed out of their old territory and few options left, the border between this province and the one now known as Sopoth was scorched so that no foliage remained, sending the trolls a clear message that they were never to return to this area. Eventually the Fonté military recouped, and were prepared for their second strike on the territory, this final push eliminated the Troll threat in the area, and it became a peaceful Fonté state.
